Hot damn that is a lot of money.
So Oculus losing half a Bil... with a big company like Facebook hoping to recoup their investment in the company, I could see Oculus (or parts of Oculus) getting sold, especially with competition so fierce.
Zenimax is valued at just over 2.5bn so 500m ain't nothing to sneeze at.
Can't wait to see the improvements to the underlying tech in the next elder scrolls.Oculus got off relatively lightly considering just how much ZeniMax was asking for.
That said for a company like ZeniMax $500 million is a massive cash influx for them. They can do a hell of a lot with that kind of money.
That doesn't seem like that much.
I mean, it's effectively 12% of what they asked for.
I'll take 10% of the 12%.
Actually....I'll take 1% of that 12%...I mean, I don't want to be greedy.
I mean, I do want DOOM IIYou'll get none% of it and then pay Zenimax 60 bucks to buy DOOM 2 you worm!
-Zenimax CEO, probably
So they won the lawsuit, but John Carmack's actions are in the clear?
Palmer Luckey is the gift that keeps on giving.
I wonder if Facebook will ever recoup the money they sunk into Oculus. What's it now with this judgment, $3.5 billion?
Luckey fucked up... again.
I hope they pour some of it into Fallout 4 VR and Doom VR
That would be great if it actually went back into the company. But i have a feeling most will go directly to the owners pocketsThat said for a company like ZeniMax $500 million is a massive cash influx for them. They can do a hell of a lot with that kind of money.
they are probably burning through R&D and staffing costs as they move towards true VR tech rather than repurposed phone tech.Facebook bought oculus for what? $2.5B? This is effectively a 20% price increase to them.
The part I don't understand is why award 500mil in damages if you didn't actually misappropriate trade secrets? I thought that was the whole thrust of the suit.

Yeah, I have a hard time understading who's at fault here when, especially since the court decided that "Oculus Didn't Misappropriate Trade Secrets From ZeniMax".So it wasn't Carmack but Luckey the one that costed them half a billion dollars?
Hope that counts to make Facebook review his contract or something.
Maybe they aimed high so they could get awarded a fraction of it?

Zuckerberg already paid 2 billion for it.
Another $500 mil to buy out the lawsuit ain't much I guess.
