FFXII The Zodiac Age - What would you want included in a collector's edition?

A promise from S-E to make FF XIV an Ivalice game with Matsuno at the helm.

Just make it like the FFXIII-2 CE.

Full 4 disc soundtrack in a big white box with a clean Yoshitaka Amano logo on the front. Done.

Option to switch between the original and remastered soundtrack. I'd also like some new optional bosses to smack around. Oh and please let the first part of Giruvegan have it's own seperate track and not be mashed together with a bunch of other tunes.
Original/Remastered is included IIRC.

A slightly larger than average artbook (in comparison to the usual ones that have, like, <30 pages and are so small that it doesn't do justice to the art) and full OST CD or blu-ray. No statues that raise the price to ridiculous heights, no "OST Samples" with 1/30th of the whole OST available and no A6 sized artbooks.

Would be happy with a redo of the original FFXII collectors edition.

Steel case with DVD featuring dev interviews and commentary. They could update it to a blu-ray with new interviews. I'd also love the chance to try out these bad boys

Knowing Square Enix, any art book would be 30 pages in a 7 inch book. It's astonishing how much they cheap out on some things

They got it right ONCE when they included the full design works with the Bravely Second collector's edition. I would really like something of that quality, plus a steelbook and soundtrack. The Final Fantasy XIII-2 collector's edition also came with the 4 disc complete soundtrack and that would be pretty awesome too.

this is a stupid post. Vaan never becomes a obnoxious character he is just not very involved with the plot.

the real main protag is Lady Ashe anyway

I always felt like Vaan's problem isn't because of him being the poster protagonist of the game with little relation to the plot, or terrible character design, or his fake abs. It's that he felt like a complete no show in the entire game. For instance, look at FFVI. Locke is close to being the male protagonist of the game, and the game was made so that there is no one clear cut protagonist even though we know the story mainly revolves around Terra. Locke had little much to do with the main plot, but Locke is still given a lot of personality, and had a memorable character arc with Rachel, as well as some pretty fun part where you get to use him and only him alone in some stealth adventure. Vaan needed all that. He needed at least some moments in the game that's all about him. But no, he got nothing.

Apparently Vaan is supposed to be the point of view of insert player, but it just doesn't work all things considered.

I would love a XII:CE to include every Ivalice game on a single PS4 disc including every tactics game released thus far.

SqEx is hit or miss with limited editions but I'd thrown down a lot of cash for a comprehensive collection of Ivalice games.
Yeah you won't get the Nintendo Ivalice games. Those are rad!

I seriously think the original steel collector's edition is the GOAT of video game packaging. I hope they make it again.

Yes! So I can play the game as originally intended.

you can play the whole game barely seeing vaan, so you could have always played the game

Yeah you won't get the Nintendo Ivalice games. Those are rad!

Why not? they weren't first party games. they are sitting on back catalog games that aren't generating any income, might as well port them.

there is nothing more half assed than a 30 page artbook, this is a common sin. i want a full sized hardcover artbook, japan gets this kind of shit all the time

Vaan was fine except for the whole BASCH LIVES shit. There are at least 3 other characters in the main party who were bigger in terms of the plot than him.

I don't actively hate Vaan but he just has no reason to be part of the story. Same with Penelo. You have the sky pirates, a badass warrior framed for the king's death, the warrior princess trying to reclaim her throne, and. . . two kids from the ghetto. A boy who dreams of being a sky pirate, and a girl whose entire reason for tagging along is because she doesn't want to be without Vaan.

It seemed like they were really on the cusp of telling a great story featuring some mature, well-developed characters, and then these bland young-adult-fiction characters were shoehorned in at the last minute. You can just hear upper management saying "WAIT! This is a JRPG. Where is the androgynous teenage boy and his smokin hot platonic childhood friend??" They're far from the most offensive characters in a JRPG, but it could've been a better game without them.

what's the story behind all of this? cut content? specifically what?

Not really cut content, at least not that I'm aware of.

Matsuno (Director, Final Fantasy Tactics) and Ito (Director, Final Fantasy IX) were originally heading the game. Matsuno dropped out because of health reasons, Minagawa (Art, Final Fantasy Tactics) and Kawazu (Director, SaGa) were brought in. Matsuno leaving has been claimed by some to be the reason that the story takes a dive but we've also heard that the story was decided early on so it's possible the things that people feel they're missing were never there. We know that Vaan was introduced because they wanted a younger character. I've heard that Basch was supposed to be the main character and I've also heard Vaan was always Vaan but was changed from a gruff man to JRPG teen.

*I have not played that far so I can't really comment

The first Tactics Advance game was only published by Square in Japan. Nintendo were the worldwide publisher.

And the games would look like ass natively on PS4, they'd have to remaster all of them.

Sub_Level

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
The contents of the hypothetical CE will be randomized, just like chests on the original game.

Maybe you get an art book. But maybe you get a fridge magnet.

Came in to post this. An updated history doc would be great, especially as it's looking like it might be the only FF game we'll be getting on the series' 30th anniversary (not counting FFXIV 4.0).

Vaan is a meh character but other than the first 2 hours and some other small parts later on, you can ignore him and keep him off your party. Just think that one of Balthier/Basch/Ashe is the main character and it works.

FFTA is a Nintendo VC title so there's no way they'd let that go.

You guys are incorrectly assuming that publishing rights imply ownership of IP.

Nintendo published Bravely Default in the west, they do not own Bravely Default. it's a publishing partnership.

Sony Published FF7 for PS1, they do not own FF7.

Square Enix published Black Ops in Japan, they do not own Black Ops.

Microsoft published Shadow Complex on XBL, I just played it on ps4 last week.

The only challenge with getting Revenant Wings or Tactics Advance games on PS4 would be making it look decent on a large HD display.

Unless we are talking about a Bayonetta 2 type situation, the original developers/publishers/ip owners are free to republish on whatever platform they please.
