Middle-earth: Shadow of War is Play Anywhere (XB1/Win10)

Good deal, if I didn't already have a PS4 Pro I would be all over this. I assume MS has the marketing deal then?

I really wonder if there's any significance to also mentioning it will also be on Scorpio besides the fact that Scorpio will play all vanilla Xbox One games.

The title will also be available for Project Scorpio following the console's launch this holiday season.

Weird statement. Isn't every XB1 game "available for Project Scorpio" anyway? Maybe they're referring to the game being specifically "optimized for Scorpio", but that'd still be the same game/sku.

They make it sound as if there will be dedicated Scorpio versions of games which - as things stand now - won't be the case.

I mostly buy games that have multiplayer or games that I play simultaneously with a group of friends in a party (ie. Stardew Valley). My fiancée and I each have our own Xbox Ones, so with game sharing I only need to buy 1 digital copy to get 2 copies for the house. So unless I can get physical for considerably cheaper than half price, it's just not worth it for me.

Exactly - between the digital copy sharing and Play Anywhere, I can play co-op between my 2 XBOs, between 1 XBO and my PC, etc with one copy. Combine that with the cheaper prices you get in international stores (usually) and it's a wash financially but way more benefits than a physical copy.

As long as PC games aren't exclusive to UWP/W10/Windows Store, this is cool.

So far the worst case has been Dead Rising 4, and the relatively tolerable idea of timed exclusivity. Don't have much concern that things could escalate downwards.

Is this a joke? All I see are comments about steam version and whether there is one and somehow you jumped to sonygaf?

Valve and Sony partnered once on Portal. Sure, it was once ever and several years ago, but follow the money maaaaannnn.

I still don't see the benefit of this unless you have a friend on PC and you're on Xbox and wanna share games.
I can buy a game on the Xbox (or PC) and can choose to play on either (or both) the console or my PC while my progress carries across to both.

Good stuff, now I hope that by August they've got the Steam version being distributed as UWP or whatever so that buying that copy gets you the version for Xbox One also.

I buy these not just because it'll work on Xbox One and Scorpio, but on my PCs and Xbox consoles that come after, too.

Otherwise this'd be lame if you have most of your friends playing it on Steam and the Nemesis system doesn't share w/ the Windows Store version.

Interesting to see more 3rd party games supporting this - wonder what other titles might support it.

If anything, it is an incentive for Xbox owners to buy digital, which means higher margins for MS and developers alike. Might MS be incentivizing this in some way? It wouldn't surprise me, but they are likely doing it to build out the ecosystem and to get more people attached to digital software.

Sweet!! Depending on the gameplay and what new stuff they've (hopefully) added, I'll probably pick this up then. I love supporting XPA titles. They're really convenient to have. :D

I buy the game once, I can play on both my Xbox and my PC. Why wpuld developers charge me twice for the same game when with Microsoft's solution I can buy it once and play it anywhere I want, and with PC/Xbox One crossplay to boot! So if my TV isn't available because of the wife, I just jump on my PC. If you have a laptop, it effectively makes all of your games also available on the go, and at home you get comfy console couch gaming.

Also, I hope more of these games end up on sites like cdkeys.com for cheap, I ended up paying 70$ Canadian for Halo Wars 2 ultimate instead of 115$ after taxes.

Yes, the game will (obviously, I mean cmon, really) be on Steam too. From the press release:

Middle-earth: Shadow of War™ will be available for Xbox One, Project Scorpio, Windows 10 PC (Windows Store and Steam™), PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®4 Pro August 25, 2017. Middle-earth: Shadow of War™ will be available as an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Nice, if enough games come to this I might consider building a PC again to use as a second gaming location for when the TV Is in use

Remember when MS partnered with a bunch of publishers to get PC games to use GFWL?

At least here there is still a proper PC version happening.

I doubt MS are paying in terms of cash, it's far more likely that they are marketing the Xbox One version (which will sell), but in return requiring an UWA version (which will not sell), and the publisher is agreeing because MS's marketing will also help the PS4/Steam version (which will also sell).

Nope. There are people in this very thread stating that MS are paying publishers to make UWP games.

I wonder the % of people that actually use this feature extensively. But hey, still neat.
They don't need to use the feature now. But remember play anywhere also means newer more powerful xboxes than even Scorpio, and these titles are guaranteed to run at ultra 60fps eventually even on a console.

The entire Xbox One library already exists. MS have specifically said there will be no Scorpio exclusive games.
You're arguing semantics. Did we not have threads leading up to the PS4Pro launch detailing Pro enhanced games? Do we still update them regularly?

This is what WB is conveying. That the game will have Scorpio enhancements much like it has PS4 Pro enhancements.

Sony will have Star Wars and CoD, so there is likely MS will have AC and this one.

Most likely but then this trailer would probably start and end with Microsoft branding.

By the way Sony also has Destiny 2 and RDR2 as well for Q4. But I doubt RDR2 meets the announced launch date.

What do you mean by "ultra"? It's not like the console version will use PC graphics settings in Play Anywere titles...

* Raises hand *.

Of the XBPA titles I have bought I have played all of them on both PC and Xbox. Sometimes I want eye-popping graphics, sometimes I want to chill on the couch w/ my SO.

I really like the first one, it was overrated for sure but still enjoyable, I'm waiting to see more of it before getting on the hype train.

Wow.. The salt and hate towards MS is clear as day in this thread.

No wonder people call this place SonyGaf

A place you won't stay long if you continue writing stupid things...

I mean that even if Scorpio isn't powerful enough some future Xbox will and XPA ensures that console will be able to enjoy everything the game has to offer.

MUnited83

For you.
I guess that Resident Evil 7 XPA paid off? It's great to hear more and more 3rd party games (from different publishers) getting on board

? It paid off in the sense that MS paid them to do this. Publishers are not giving free PC versions to XB1 game owners randomly.

Anyone stating Microsoft is payong for this is making it up as there isn't any proof anywhere of Microsoft doing so for any of the games released as play anywhere or coming out in the future.

Considering it is already being made for PC for release on steam, there isn't really any extra work for the developers to do to bring it to the windows store. It's still a PC game, just packaged as UWP for distribution in the Windows store.
...?

Do you really believe that MS isn't paying a cent to make this a Play Anywhere title?

... do you think they are doing that for the kindness on their hearts or something?

If the crossover between users is as low as is often claimed in threads like this, then they may as well, simply to draw Xbox users into purchasing digitally.
