woah, a bump from 10/2015.
More than a decade for a non-violent crime? I want them to be punished, but this seems a little too much.
hmm there were a whole bunch of trucks, why are all the rest of the convicts getting just 2-4 years?
i never got to see moonlight but i hear it's the first now-oscar movie with all black cast! plus cottonmouth wins best supporting actor which is actually a first for a Muslim actorFinally. It's been a pretty bleak month. Lot's of racist people doing racist shit.

White supremacists target children's parties, schools, churches and graveyards. So brave.

LOL so it's not like they even led the perpetration, they were perhaps arrogant about it and it led to them getting the worst of all of their collective actions, damn.Plea deal. They agree to admit guilt usually for lesser charges. Less costs of a trial so DA is usually pretty leniant.
These two wanted to go to trial thinking they would not get convicted.
Good point!

Good outcome, justice served. Only downside is that they'll probably come out of prison being even more racist instead of actually being rehabilitated.

I'm not sure that I post a lot in these types of threads, so it's not tiring for me. This one caught my eye and I wanted to know what the sentence was. I'm asking honestly, are you offended by what I posted previously? It seems like I'm missing something. My mindset when posting what I did was about how in jail there are a lot of white supremacist groups (or so movies have led me to believe) so I kind of pictured these people being received as heroes/martyrs by those groups. That's all.Yeah and killers and violent crimes people will likely come out more violent.
The system is flawed there is no doubt it. But it would be tiring pointing that out in every thread somebody gets sentenced to jail in, I'm assuming you do.
Sorry but this attitude towards non-violent crime is part of the reason why criminal bankers/officials/white collar people go unpunished or get away with 1 year sentences.
I also think some people aren't getting the whole story. A group drove by a children's birthday party with confederate flags all over their trucks while waving guns and treating to "kill ya'll (n-words)". I'm not really sure how anyone could take issue with the length of time that they're receiving.

In a vacuum, 15 years is a bit much even for a death threat, but a strong message against racism like this is just what's needed these days, now more than ever. It sends the message that society does not tolerate racial terrorism and *will* ruin your life if you get caught on it.
Racist BobThe one-armed man.
I don't think 15 years is too much for a death threat in a country where anybody can walk into a store and buy a gun without background checks. In a vacuum, 15 years is a bit much even for a death threat, but a strong message against racism like this is just what's needed these days, now more than ever. In this particular case, as you said, adding racism, plus improper use of a firearm (or basically armed threats) means to me there is potential for a race/hate crime. I'm totally fine with the sentence. I also like that this sets the precedent (again, as you said) and sends a clear message about this types of situations.
"That is not me. I would never walk up to you and say those things". Yet, here we are.
That's what you focused on though. It wasn't even the main point in my post, and what you're saying is not what I posted, at all. "To say the least"... You can take this to PM if you want. Perhaps that way you can say what's really on your mind. And they probably will be. But there really isn't any alternative. It just seemed like a hot take, to me, like "all that is going to happen with them going to jail is them becoming more racist". It was just an interesting take away from the thread to say the least.
Sure, never mind. But apparently I misread your intention. So never mind. It seems like you were just making an observation. Yeah it's shame prisons don't do more to educate people instead of just locking them away.
Right. Hence the "justice is served" in my post, and the follow up to it.Well of course. They're super racist already and will come back just as or more, but they'll never organize into a terroristic gang again who openly intimidates and threatens to commit hate crimes if they know what's good for them. That's why they went to jail after all.

You don't do anything in Douglasville. A guy I went to school with is serving life in prison for robbing somebody in that county.
Armed robbery I take it?
I mean I think crimes with guns should be severe. Hate crimes as well. usually they don't get taken seriously.
Anyway, I know there was 15 and 4 have been sentenced. Anybody know about what the other 11 got?
Hopefully the children are all right and won't be scarred by a racist prick's actions.
Pointing guns at kids is non-violent?
You think showing up at a child's birthday party with racist memorabilia and hurling racial epithets at people while also brandishing guns is a non-violent crime?
K.
It's a threat of violence, not actually conducting violence. Maybe I'm just using the wrong word here. What I'm trying to say is more than a decade in prison for threats where no one got hurt seems excessive.
HA! I would have taken the weak ass apology and told them to get fucked.
