Saw the video, maybe someone want us to buy a Switch. Wii U version is fine imo.

Yeah, looked ok to me. I'm not sure that I ever want Switch, so I'm sticking with the Wii U version. If it's performance is too much for me, I'll give it a while and see if they get in running better on CEMU--haven't bothered with that emulator yet, but have a gaming PC so this may be the game that gets me to look into it.

If not, I bought with GCU so I can at least sell it at cost easily (and would do so after beating in any case), so no big worry for me.

So basically I don't know anymore! Question is: is it even possible to pre-order a Switch at this point?

Yes, in some parts of Europe.

No in North America. Best bet is to hit a Best Buy Friday evening and wait a few hours for the midnight opening (if yours is doing one) as they've said they'll have some extra and separate lines for preorders and people waiting for extras. If you fail there you can try lining up at a Target or Toys R Us as neither did preorders for their physical stores.

It's funny because I originally voted for wait and see if I get a Switch, then came into this thread just now thinking I might get the Wii U version if it runs well, and then just now thought "well, you just found out you are getting an internship that pays decently for the next several months, so you can probably by a Switch."

So basically I don't know anymore! Question is: is it even possible to pre-order a Switch at this point?

No, but you can check with your local Best Buy to see if they have additional units that haven't been pre-ordered and try to make the midnight launch.

Saw the gamekult tweet and then watched a 15 minutes video of the Wii u version , seems not bad

If that's the worst area of the game framerate-wise, I'm more than happy with that. Was expecting much worse, although how it fares in battle with more than one small enemy and explosions and/or weather effects remains to be seen of course... still, I grew up on the N64 and pushed through GoldenEye/Perfect Dark descending into single digits, so I can live comfortably with the standard in that video and slightly worse.

I you don't mind stronger aliasing, more pop ups, a little worse framerate at times.

Yeah, this is obviously worth buying a new system when the game is already available for the system you actually own smfh

The framerate part was only reported by one source and wasn't even based on observable facts, so we don't even know about the Wii U's version exact issues besides that it's 720p vs 900(we don't know if it has actually better lighting either). People are trying to make non-issues sound like valid reasons to buy an unproven system at launch with barely any games announced for it aside from enhanced versions of Wii U games when those people already own a Wii U and want to make their purchase of this flopped system actually worth it by finally playing what they expected to get over a year ago. No need to pressure people to buy Switches, this isn't the Wii U when people prayed that it would sell decently so they could get at least HD iterations of their favorite franchises, so let people that actually bought this thing actually enjoy their purchase for once smh

If the Switch was getting a 1080p 60fps BOTW I would hold out for that but it's not, it's just 900p with the same target frame rate and it had dips and even slowdown (especially when moving the camera) when I played it. It's not like going from MGSV on PS3 to the PS4 version, first impressions are that the gap is more like going from a XB1 to a PS4 multi-plat.

I am still going to wait for the DF comparison to see if it passes the "good enough" threshold however.

I will buy both versions, like I did with Twilight Princess...although in that case, the superior Gamecube version was held back for a month, or whatever, and I bought the Wii version partially because I didn't want to wait.

There's no poll option for "both".
Or for Thor 2: The Dark World.

I'm done GAF. I just preordered Zelda BOTW Wii U. My Wallet can't take this period of ridiculously good games anymore.

In the first two months of this year, I've purchased 4 Day 1 games, DQVIII, Yakuza 0, Nioh and Zelda. I've purchased at least 12 vita games for my collection in case they go out of print, as well as my second backup Vita. Spent over US$600 on everything.

Wallet is closed as of now till fall. Sorry Persona 5, Nier: Automata, Horizon Zero Dawn.

My copy from Best Buy is still "preparing," while the 3 BOTW Amiibo I ordered are still in progress.

As someone who has put 30 minutes into the Wii U version, I would strongly recommend purchasing a Switch copy if at all possible. The game itself is sensational, but the Wii U performance and IQ is really quite bad.

Not everyone has the disposable income for a switch, but if you do, a random guy on the internet is telling you to get it on that platform.

Wow, saying no to Persona 5? I can't do it. I will do it on Horizon though, will get when it drops price.

Mine's still in "preparation" stage, the very first. :( I just hope it doesn't become cancelled like at those other vendors...

It won't. They still have it available to preorder last I looked.

Best Buy tends to get the most Nintendo stock, partners on a lot of promotions etc. Has anyone canceled other than Amazon in the US? They and NOA have had a very rocky relationship with them not even carrying Nintendo hardware directly for a long stretch.

Check your email if you ordered from Amazon, just got a confirmation email the game will ship to be here Friday.

Mine still says "March 31" for the expected arrival.

I went ahead and preordered it from Best Buy because it's supposed to be here launch day with them. If my Amazon order actually shows up, I guess I'll just have two. If it slips past the 3rd, then I'll cancel it.

Yeah, it looks like I'll just be waiting until I inevitably get a Switch. As I've said previously, the sheer size of the game means I likely won't want to play it more than once, or at least, I wouldn't want to replay any time soon. This game also seems like something really special , and I don't want that first (potentially only) playthrough tainted by such massive performance issues. I'm still not planning on getting a Switch this year though, so it looks like I'll be waiting ahwile to play BOTW. :(

As someone who has put 10 hours into the Wii U version and played the Switch version, I would strongly recommend people get whichever they want. The performance issues of the Wii U version are being dramatically exaggerated. The game is awesome, the Switch version is better, but it truly doesn't matter.

This is what I'm hearing from more level-headed folk and it's what I'm seeing in footage. I've never been a frame-counter so I'm not really qualified but I've got no reason to worry about my enjoyment of the Wii U version.

Have you done some off-TV play? Just a bit curious of how the game is doing via that, cause I am probably going to be in that mode most of the time.

Is anyone who preordered the WiiU version from Target getting shipping notices yet? My order just says "estimated delivery Wed March 8th - Fri March 10th"... ouch.

It's mostly fine. Some slowdowns here and there, especially when it is raining but nothing that hurts gameplay too much. The Wii U version is good enough.

I'm not familiar with how the Eshop updates so I was wondering when will I be able to purchase and preload BOTW on Wii U? I think I saw somewhere that it updates on thursdays. Also I'm in NA

Yeah, I have it pre-ordered for in-store pickup at Best Buy and it still says "Processing." I'm assuming because it's a pre-order. While it would be strange for them to continue to take pre-orders if they cannot fulfill them I wouldn't be shocked to find out that it was either cancelled or fulfilled at a later date. If that happens I'll just go digital and may just do that anyways if there is a pre-load option.

Yeah, it's fine, just as well as any other Wii U off-TV game. It doesn't LOOK very good on off-TV, but that shouldn't be a surprise.

I'm getting it on the Wii u on day one. This is the only game that I am interested in on the switch at launch so it doesn't make sense to purchase an entirely new system just to play one game.

Pretty much what I wanted to hear. Yeah I expect some sacrifice in quality on off-TV, but that is okay.

Absolutely the Wii U version. Before Nintendo revealed the Switch I kept hoping that it would be something different but for me it turned out to be a huge let down. There is absolutely no reason at all to get a Switch for just one game. A game I can easily get for my Wii U as well and there is very likely not a huge difference anyway.

So yep, Wii U absolutely.

I want to get the Wiiu version, but I might not be able to before they go out of print. I read somewhere they were doing a very limited quantity. I don't plan on getting a Switch until MH is announced, if at all.

Amazon still seems to be telling me that they don't know if they'll ever be able to get it to me. =/

I pre-ordered with them like a year and a half ago during a sale, and prices have gone up since then so if they can't get it to me I'll have to spend like $40 more getting it from somewhere else.

Really annoyed that Amazon has given no indication whether they can get it to me.

where is the choice for both?

regular edition on wiiu, and masters on switch even though I don't plan to get a switch for like 18 months lol.

I own a Wii U and bought it because of the Zelda Techdemo and waited for this game for years too. There is no need for "pressure" and no need for making the Wii U version better than it is in comparison. Naturally people have to decide for themselves if the better IQ and framerate and the Switch handheld-console are worth the purchase. Nothing wrong with that. And nothing wrong with speaking about differences, so people have the choice to decide. And no, it's not only this person.

If i hadn't any other chance i would be all in for the Wii U version as well, it's a great game on both consoles.

Did you play it loading from an SD card? I played it and it was fine - and framerate issues bug me majorly - and were more noticeable in the switch version that I played on friday to be honest.

Same, tried both. WiiU version for me, really looking forward to it.

If you can wait and want to be sure, I'm certain digital foundry will put out a comparison shortly to clarify.

You're such a weirdo, lol.

I would've done exactly what you are doing if I could've gotten at least a Special Edition of the game for Switch...

I preordered about a month ago from Amazon and just got an email that I should expect it on Friday. Appears whatever was going on with the stock has been resolved.

if they offered the collectors edition on wiiu I wouldn't be buying both but i needed the collectors.

Here's a video comparing the final WiiU build side by side with the Switch version in almost perfect synchrony. They look pretty similar to me. (Very beginning and early areas that have already been shown - so nothing "spoilery.")

https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=YQbkBlpJX24

And here's a link for approximately an hour of gameplay on the WiiU version (again, nothing beyond the plateau).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwDb0VJvikc

I think the WiiU version looks great.

Wii U retail disc at launch, although I need to make sure I have enough space on my HDD for that install. If it turns out too big (which is a very real possibility, especially if they're going to be releasing patches in the future as well), I may just go for the download.
Although I need to make sure the download can run off a USB stick, which the mandatory install can't, apparently...

Why you gotta make this so hard for me, Nintendo? :/

Is there a source for the bolded? I assumed I'd be installing the disc to my Wii U's external HDD. Don't know if I have space on the internal storage since I have an 8GB model.
