Disney XD has unveiled the first look at the upcoming DuckTales reboot, as well as announced that the animated series has been picked up for a second season ahead of its summer premiere.

Based on the Emmy Award-winning series, DuckTales will once again take viewers along as Scrooge McDuck, his curious and mischief-making grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, the temperamental Donald Duck and their trusty team, Webby Vanderquack, Launchpad McQuack and Mrs. Beakley, embark on high-flying adventures around the world.

”Fans around the world are eager and we're looking forward to introducing viewers to the all-new DuckTales," said Marc Buhaj, Senior Vice President, Programming and General Manager, Disney XD. ”This early season two order is a testament to the quality work the creative team, led by Matt and Frank, and the cast are delivering."

That's good, although it's a bit funny when you think about it.

Bubba sucked and really wasn't used much after his arc.

I loved the original cartoon.

I think this looks great! It excites me that there is a DuckTales for a new generation. Hoping my nephews will like the show.

The voices are throwing me off A LOT. I don't know why it bothers me so much.

Because the kids sound like smarmy adults, probably. That's what's throwing me off, anyway. Don't mind Tenant's take on Scrooge, which is good since I don't think Alan Young's likely to reassume the role.

Well, via the filter of CalArts at any rate.

Not a fan of the character designs :/

Curious, I've heard Cal arts brought up in different circles lately. What is the "calarts filter" you speak of.

I always thought they were trained in the classical disney style.

A lot of people in the industry come from calarts which has lead to the lazy criticism that anything vaguely resembling a modern design trend is "the calarts look" regardless of it applies or not.

Looks fantastic, not really feeling the nephew's voices though. Maybe they will grow on me. Scrooge McDuck's voice is great considering the main legendary voice actor died. He has just enough of that accent in there.

It's a rather meaningless phrase often used to describe the general style that is currently popular in TV animation. In the 90s and early to mid 00s, Calarts alums made shows with a lot of angular designs thick outlines, now it's used to describe rounded designs with noodle arms and "bean mouths". It was originally used as a pejorative to describe the Disney-esque design and animation of 90s 2D films like the Dreamworks stuff or Iron Giant.

They should have just copied the exact theme song and I'm not 100% sold on the voices yet. But that's nitpicking. Also, I'm a man in my 30s so I shouldn't be too judgmental of this.

I feel like an early renewal like this means they have faith in it though. Hopefully it leads to a rebooted Darkwing Duck too.

What is called CalArts style is referring to the dominate art seen across the majority of children's cartoons. That blocky, simple shape direction that comes, well, Cal Arts. I do wish I knew about the background but the problem is the style can lead to a lot of bland and samey looking shows.

David Tennant as Scrooge is some really super inspired casting. He sounds great.

I really love the look and feel of it so far. It reminds me of the Mickey Mouse shorts but with... well, DuckTales - format and all. I can't wait.

I'll agree that the nephew's voices sound a little off--but Scrooge is perfect. Tennant was an inspired choice. Looking forward to this!

Looks surprisingly good. They weren't going to match the original art style, so I'm glad they went with something completely different, to make the new series have it's own identity.

He is definitely the stand out voice so far. Its really good. Launchpad is good too, isn't it the original voice actor for him?

I'm sure I don't have to say that most of those characters, while undoubtedly similar, had be drawn off-model to achieve that result.

Anyway, this Ducktales doesn't really share the style. It still is a bit stiff, but there's some varied movement (Donald's rage, etc). Donald's voice is toned down to help give him some of the comics' characterization. Louie's voice is perhaps the most weird, but we shall see.

Looks like they'll be doing something similar to the final chapter of Life & Times for the introductory episode, which makes sense.
