Breath of the Wild Comparison Thread (Wii U vs. Switch)

Yeah, but the Switch version has its own rare framerate issues already as it is when docked. Probably adding AA would have killed it.
I understand the reason it doesn't include it, I'm disappointed because it can't do things like that which then reduces the image quality greatly.

False, I've the Wii U version and since update, on a 10 hours playthrough it just dropped once for me.
List your setup, peeps.

I'm using disc & internal memory for the install - pretty smooth, tho the occasional drop into what feels like low 20s. Not entered a village yet.

This is a Wii U game ported over to a totally new architecture, why are people getting their knickers in a knot over the 'port' aspect of the game. It was always going to be a port.

I'm sure it can do things like that. Just not for this game. They spent less than a year getting it to the Switch. After it was a game solely fleshed out for the WiiU. I'm sure it may also have something to do with pariry between the tao games so there is no large gap.

I wonder when did they start porting it over to the Switch. Resolution aside they look virtually identical. Which is too bad, would've been nice to see a version of this game with more grass/better grass LOD at least.
Reading this is baffling and makes me sad. How does this game not look noticeably better than on a last gen console? Unacceptable

Because the wiiU is powered from the wall is designed as a lower powered console and has a larger form factor. The switch on the other hand is much smaller, so it has to run cooler and its portable so it has to use even less power.

its not complicated. I dont get why a bunch of people are completely oblivious to thermals, power draw and form factor and how that affects performance on an enthusiast gaming forum.

Of course it can handle antialiasing, even if it doesn't in hardware then software solutions would be manageable on something like this.

My issue still stands, it's that Nintendo hasn't built something that supports antialiasing in this game, which in turn reduces the image quality greatly.

Pretty much. It's a last gen console game on a next gen portable.

But yeah, I get disappointment from the non-portable gamer who wished we had gotten a next gen Nintendo console because I am one and will just play Zelda on Wii U and may never get a Switch.

So is the WiiU version out? Has anyone seen it in any stores?

Should be. Best Buy still has it online and available for pick up today at all my local stores.

Wait, the game a loading screens? Is that what I'm reading? Did other Zelda games have loading screens and I just don't remember?

yes and no. previous zelda games would usually just fade to black while they loaded stuff, but botw is loading much more data so having an actual loading screen makes sense, can't just hang on black for 10 seconds,

Bloodborne had no problem with it at launch. 😎

I've played like 6 hours of the Wii U version and for the most part it's fine but so far the two towns I've found run like shiiittttttt. Thankfully I'm not doing any fighting in the towns but Jeez. It's seriously like 15fps average in
Kakariko Village

Do I win a prize for talking about my penis on the Internet???
The Wii U version is 720p, which is a perfect divisor of 2160p, so it'll scale better on a 4K screen than the 900p version.

Yeah.
I'll be playing the Wii U version on a 65" 4K set..I really hope this is true.

I have a wierd issue with this on Wii U. The game looks really blurred on my TV. On the gamepad its fine. All the homescreen menus are fine on my tv too. Looks really Low Res?

Hope the power that be don't mind a cross post from a different thread. I am about to leave work and go hunting and want to know if this is possible:

Wife is trying to talk me out of the Switch...but I don't want the hassle of juggling shit around on the Wii U to free up enough space for the game/patch.

I really just need to offload crap like the Wii version of Metroid Trilogy and I will have enough space..I don't want to waste an entire external drive or look for one of those Y adapters just for that. I am reading that I can just use a USB thumb drive or an SD card to move games (not play them on)...is this true? That's a crazy good option that I didn't know existed.

-EDIT-
Also..in the case of a USB stick I assume it needs to be USB 3.0?

I use one on mine, they say maybe not to but I'm pretty sure I bought one that was specifically recommended for Wii U use.

Yup. I think several people use one.

I know Dan Ryckert of Giant Bomb who usually reviews the Nintendo stuff has used a jump drive for the Wii U for years.

The moment i get my switch, i'll run to a town to see how the framerate fares.

I got up early and bought the Wii U version, though they were also selling Switches if I had wanted one. Hopefully the right choice was made - took a day off of work to play, first time I did that since taking a day off school for Ocarina of Time.

Honestly wish the switch had a lower res high performance option.

I've not seen a game chug this bad running around in grass in ages. Let alone from nintendo.

Because the Switch is a handheld console...?

So the Switch version is shit performance-wise too? Well, great.

No, Wii U is definitely the inferior in any way possible to compare.
Not in load times vs. game card ;) Also it never entirely locked up on me

This is false. Wii U has USB 2.0 so max transfer rate is 60MB/s (in reality more like 45-50MB/s). There'll be no difference between quality 5400RPM HDD/7200RPM HDD and SSD.
Well it was measured and proven so you are wrong: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=942130

In this instance a SSD saved a whopping 3 seconds over NAND while HDD was the same. Maybe the NAND is even slower? Would not look good for the Switch game cards of course

This is very interesting. Please test it. I'm wondering if this might be a GTA V situation where the game is optimized for simultaneousness streaming from disc and NAND and actually performs better than a full install

They were? Seems like most people expected exactly what happened to happen.
After the comparison with the E3 footage surfaced people expected better textures, draw distance and so on yes

So the real answer for a definitive edition seems to be Wii U version + Wii U emulator.

16xAA and AF, 60fps, etc

Eh, tbh it doesn't look significantly better or perform much better because Nintendo didn't put in the effort to optimize and improve it. The Switch in handheld mode is stronger than the WiiU and in docked mode it's got more tha double the GPU power. The CPU is better than the WiiUs by a good degree. I dont really see why the game is not stable 30 1080p in docked mode frankly.
