Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

As soon as I start the game, it de-syncs the Pro Controller and will only let me use the Joy-Cons.

Have looked long and hard at mine and....you'd have to be clumsy AF to do that kind you of change damage to the bezel, sorry OP.

There's plenty of room to slide it in and out of the dock without it really touching the sides at all.

The thing I am worried about though is scuffing around the USB Cable socket. Seems like that is bound to happen.

Plastic screen? Cheaping out on one of the most important aspects of a mobile device? And the damn dock causes damage? Jesus... Cheap and bad R&D on a $300 device. Thanks Nintendo!

Ordered those glass screen protectors. Lame.

Aw, man. I'm at work and left my Switch in the dock. I haven't removed it since I first put it there. So hopefully when I remove it I'm paying attention. I did notice when I first docked it, there was some wiggle room. I hope there aren't any scratches on the screen when I placed it the first time.

*fingers crossed*

I have a bunch of extra microfiber cloths so I might try taping one on the side of the dock that the screen is facing.

This will not likely fix the problem if your sensitive to scratches. Since the dock sits out. Over time the cloths will collect dirt and other particulate matter and then basically act as sandpaper to that soft plastic screen.

Basically think about what happens when you take a microfiber cloth to your car's paint if you don't use soap and water. Uuuugggghhh.

True. I ordered the tempered glass protectors so this is just temporary. I'm just trying to minimize the damage for now.

For people looking at the glass screen protectors the only thing to look out for is their cut. Try to read reviews to see if they go all the way to the edge. Bad ones may not cover the whole screen.

Maybe you can get a thunderbolt/usb-c female to male extension for the usb-c in the slot of the dock and connect the switch that way.

Jeez, and I thought the flaws of the OG 3DS were bad. Feel sorry for anyone scratching their shit up due to this. I hate scratched screens with such a passion.

I suggest those of you concerned and waiting on a solution use one of the white foam envelopes that came with the unit (housed either the Switch or the AC adapter) and cover the front cover with it. One of them is just wide enough to fit, basically slips on like a pillow case.

It's a temporary solution but it's one everyone should be able to do.

I put the microfiber cloth that came with the psvr over the top of the front of the dock. It's exactly the same width as the dock and screen haha.

So many things about this system are really poorly designed

-plastic screen
-kickstand functionality
-heat issues
-dock scratches
-charge port on the bottom

Revisions are usually made with cheaper materials not better. Unless it's a more premium one.

not every single part is cheap out in revision hardware. Take a look at PSP family. PSP1000 absolutely needed screen protectors (good luck finding one scratch free). PSP3000 and PSP GO had much more durable screens, even though they were still plastic. I'm expecting improvements in this regard, although in this case I want proper glass like in the Vita or any other mobile hardware released in last several years. Seriously Nintendo, it's not 2005 anymore.

Ordered glass screen protector, expedited the screen protectors...

Going to very rarely if ever take the Switch out of the dock until it gets here.

My case on Amazon got delayed, will see if there are any retail store options available.

The fragile nature of the screen, game port cover, and little stand on back make me wish I had bought an extended warranty. Guessing Best Buy doesn't do that after the sale?

Anyone use Squaretrade or similar for stuff like this?

Wow I butchered my screen protector application, bubbles galore, doesn't bother me much as I'll swap it out for a glass version once they eventually come out.

Not a fan of the wobble the system has in the dock, doesn't go in and stay as nice as I thought it would. Can see how that can scratch over time.

I went ahead and ordered that glass one posted earlier. I hope it's not too hard. I cannot for the life of me install those damn things. I never tried a tempered glass one before

Heat issues?

It gets pretty hot in the dock and tablet mode is noticeably warm after playing a short while(personal preference thing - I just don't like the feeling)

I find them a lot easier to install, and the bubbles dissipate over a few days.

I bought the official case at the midnight launch event I attended last night and wasn't originally going to put the protector on until I docked my Switch for the first time. It doesn't feel like a snugly guided process like I would've assumed from how good connecting joycons to either the tablet or their grip is.

If rest of the thread isn't evidence enough, I do highly recommend a screen protector. I haven't used a screen protector on any of my personal devices for years with no regrets and I trust myself to be careful enough, but the docking process for the Switch isn't as sturdy as the rest of the build of the Switch might suggest.

Hope so. I'm having flashbacks to trying to put the last one on haha

The $8 official plastic one I bought as a temp solution was a total pain in the ass, and I still have bubbles. Oh and a cat hair got in there somehow. Nice. Which glass one is everyone recommending again?
