Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

The $8 official plastic one I bought as a temp solution was a total pain in the ass, and I still have bubbles. Oh and a cat hair got in there somehow. Nice. Which glass one is everyone recommending again?

I just went with the one pictured above with the amazon link. Dunno how good it is, but it looked to fit

Haha fuck just saw this thread and so reached over and grabbed my Switch.
It has a pretty long scratch down the right side.
I've docked it three times today, all carefully too.

This after my 3DS OG and XL both had scratched screens from simply closing the lids, fucking ridiculous.

Why on earth didn't they design it as an open cradle that doesnt cover the screen? For fucks sake Nintendo.

To remove any possible similarites to Wii U

So I got the one with the official carrying case. It seems fine so far. (10 hours of Zelda) Should I still get the tempered glass one?

That sucks.

Just playing with the system for 1hr, first thought I had was how delicate it all felt. Just removing one of the joycon controllers seemed like I was gonna rip the thing in half.

I'm going to be extremely careful when docking this thing.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

Nintendo doubling down on exploiting their faithful fans, first with overpriced accessories to solve hardware flaws which shouldnt have existed in the first place and now shoddy build quality to sell those revisions.

Ok, that pretty much does it, I'm not buying this thing until the next hardware revision.

How does a product get out the door with an issue like this?

The same way the 3DS did I'm guessing...

I took some of the foam from the box, stuck it to the inside of the dock with some adhesive pads, and it now docks without it feeling like it's going to scratch. :)

Fuck, after only three times? Do you have a photo?

I was about to go out and buy a switch early this morning cause toys r us had them in stock but my dog made me feel guilty so I walked him instead and by the time I got to the store they were all out. I'm glad I didn't get one. I'll wait and see if they fix this stuff before even considering buying one. For now I'll play Zelda on my Wii U

Ugh I should've bought a screen protector just in case. Just took my system out of the dock. It's not going back in until I get one of these glass ones. Too bad they're all on backorder.

Is there enough room inside to maybe put like a microfiber cloth or something between the front of the inside of the dock and the switch? If I had one I'd probably do that until I got a screen protector

i made a huge mistake not buying a screen protector. no scratches yet, but now i've ordered a glass one and it won't even ship till 3/7 so I have to be incredibly careful until then :(

Just removed my Switch from the dock for literally the second time and I see three distinct, small vertical scuffs on the bezel. Luckily these are only faintly noticeable / seem to wipe off, but this is literally the -2nd- time removing from dock, both times very delicately, and contact between the bezel and casing is clearly happening.

Also, battery only seems to recharge 4% after 20min of docking... uhh..

gonna need to see the receipts on that dog

I wonder if the dock would work ok if you just took a dremel to that front part that covers the screen and cut it right off.

Haven't received my switch yet, but I don't like screen protectors and will probably just ghetto it by docking the unit along with a piece of paper covering the screen...

Yeah but then you have a scratched screen protector

This. While a screen protector can prevent scratch on the screen itself, you still eventually end up with ugly scratches all over the protector. This dock turns out to be a serious design flaw. Unbelievable.

I can understand having problems at launch, lots of things that you couldnt possibly know about until millions of people start playing it, but the screen scratches after being docked/undocked a few times? You couldnt notice that?

I already bought Zelda for the Switch thanks to a deal..

....but I think I might just stick it on a shelf for a few months (as I have yet to buy the Switch itself) until this stuff has been corrected (or bung it on ebay and get the Wii U version instead...but I really wanted the better version).

I think I'm in the clear, knocked up a little bezel protector by modifying an iPhone screen protector for the time being. I want a slimline case that can be used with the dock.

Anyone see anything good?

I knew it since I first saw how the dock was built. Get your screen protectors asap

I heard/read it was best to get a good glass screen protector and not those shitty plastic film ones that leave air bubbles on the screen?
(I have one like that for Vita and thankfully there's no bubbles where the screen actually is, but still...)

Really wanna hear him spin this.
We hear every day from our passionate fans just how much they love the new system, how innovative it is and just how much they are enjoying huge hits like breath of the wild and 1-2 switch.
Its been such a successful launch all around the world that fans are passionately asking for more switch hardware news already.
We hear that the fans want a better way to protect such a beautiful piece of hardware.
And at this years e3 we will be showcasing some brand new screen protectors and brand new docking stations based around some our most popular franchises such as mario and zelda.
You can see them first at this years e3 and they will launch soon after, this holiday 2017.

Informed my Switch-owing friends just in case, seemed most of them were already planning to put screen protectors on. Doesn't seem to be a widespread issue at all, but better safe than sorry.

so about the dock...
a) scratches the screen with little use
b) putting the switch on he dock won't give you the expected performace (same as when you were playing on the go) on the tv.

both seem hard to believe honestly. That would be surprisingly bad.

Sure, the second one is on the switch itself, but it affects the utility of the dock nonetheless.

I just cut up two pieces from some foam insert bags that came with the system and taped them to the extruding plastic in the dock. It's a lot tighter now and harder to pull out but I'm guessing the friction against that padding is better than the friction against the plastic.

At least I hope.

Hmm as someone suggested earlier, I used on of the bag things it comes in, to slide over the front of the doc to protect it. it is a very tight fit so seems like it wont harm anything.

Anybody think of why this would be a bad idea? The bag there can hurt anything can it? I'm thinking like heat problems or something? Obviously it looks dumb as hell but should protect it fine

The problem is the inside of the stand has plastic ridges, instead of like a soft bumper, cause apparently Nintendo are fucking dumb.

How do you fuck that up?

Something that is going to slide in and out constantly and you make that shit plastic???

Haha I might as well have done the same thing instead I cut the bags to size and taped two pieces to the ridges on the interior.

I hope it works alright too.

Personally I'm worried about the tight fit. The padding is better than plastic but it adds more friction in general. I have marks every time I take it out now on the bezel but the foam shouldn't scratch..shouldn't..

Might actually head out to target and get the case that comes with the screen protector and use that until my tempered glass comes next week. This is ridiculous. I'm afraid to even open my Switch now.

So with the JoyCon sync issues and scratching dock.

It's safe to say it's best to wait till Nintendo get this sorted.

I am waiting on a Switch preorders which arrives next Saturday manage to get it for only £254. £26 cheaper than retail by abusing a voucher code.

I received my Zelda and Switch official case today which I got both for only £37 by abusing voucher codes.

However with all these issues I'm thinking of cancelling my Switch order even though I could get it £26 cheaper. As for Zelda and the case, I can keep the case when I eventually get a Switch, and Zelda I can sell to CeX for £43 making me a small £6 profit. Oh well let's hope Nintendo fixes these issues in time for Mario Oddysey I'm out it's been a good ride on the hype but I gotta wait it out once Nintendo fix these issues. In the meantime I'll finish my Vita back log and PS4 back log.
