So, what would be the regular way to make it towards the
Goron Town
, where i am led to believe you're able to find fire protection critters and buy fire protection items.

"heat protection" (lv. 2) didn't do jack shit when i warped there ... i started losing half a heart every second straight away.

I was lucky enough to find the beetles needed to make fire proofing medicine in beedle's stock of random shit and i'll just make them into medicine during the next blood moon.

The legend of the hero Link, who ran away from all the enemies in the overworld because combat outside of dungeons or any actual objectives is a negative sum game.

Went and got the strategy guide for the Korok Seeds.
I've gotten all the map pieces, more than half the shrines, but only 32 Korok Seeds.
And there are
like 900?
Nope.

I don't think there's ever been a 3D Zelda with so many successful "oh shit shit shit shit" moments.

That,
suddenly spotting a fucking electro dragon out in the wild out of nowhere (first dragon I saw and I did not know they were in the game), and the Lanaryu Mountaintop
have been my favourite "Oh shit!!" moments so far.

I've completely abandoned any attempt to "play" this game at all. Usually when I play a Zelda, the trick is gaming it. I aim to get to [x] dungeons within a day or so. I set certain progression goals for the story to balance it out with exploration of the overworld, etc. Here I'm just like... fuck it. After a week I realized it doesn't matter. I can pick up the game and literally play -any- way I like and it's satisfying. I just explore an inch at a time, going from shrine to shrine, cliff to cliff, cliff to ruin, ruin to tower, etc. There's always something to find, There's always a puzzle or a mystery or a secret around the corner. I'm just going to get lost in Hyrule and play this game for however long it takes. When I eventually get to the next region with a dungeon, I'll worry about it then. Wow.
Secret best feature of the Switch is the sleep mode. Takes all of 2 seconds to wake the console and be right back in Zelda. Really allows for those short-bursts of gaming you describe.

After what seemed like ten hours of wandering around, fighting enemies and discovering locations on shrines, I'm heading towards the first dungeon.

Can't wait!
Same! Currently making my way towards Zora's Domain. This entire area is designed amazingly so far.

Okay so is it just me, or is the optional challenge in the
"golf"
shrine the most ridiculous thing in this entire game?! I broke literally every weapon in my inventory trying to complete it. 5 hits with a heavy weapon made the orb fall short, but 6 hits overshot it every time...
You need a
stabbing weapon
and it's easy as pie. It's so easy once you understand the angle. I thought this puzzle was highly luck but it's not.

Whether I put in 10 minutes or 3 hours in a play session, I've found that the satisfaction from the game is exactly what you invest into it. You can have a small adventure or a big adventure. It's crazy!

Yup! The opportunities to experiment and do something interesting and write a new story is everywhere.

Pro mode + heading in a random direction has yielded so many awesome moments and discoveries.

There's an NPC at the nearest stables who sells you fireproof elixirs. Each lasts about 6 minutes so with 2 or 3 under your belt you can easily make it to the town and buy some proper fireproof gear.

yup. it's a perfect game. they nailed it so hard.

I'm going on a trip in a couple weeks, and I'm debating putting it aside to focus on Horizon since I can't take that with me, but I don't think I can stop playing BOTW (I did a little today for Blaster Master Zero which was a nice palette cleanser)

Had a much better gaming session today once I abandoned exploration (which I find frustrating in such a large area when there isn't really that much to find) in favor of pursuing the main story quests. Did all the
Zora
content and generally had a blast. Just wish the game focused more on that kind of linear progression instead of expecting you to comb the land for shrines.

This game is surprisingly great in small bursts. Usually Zelda games required you to put some time aside but now I can get a lot of enjoyment from just 5 mins of running around.

I just remembered that I should try Voez, I bought it from the eshop and it seemed like the download wouldn't be instantaneous. So then I saw Zelda on the home screen and sighed, fine fine, I'll go chop trees to finish a sidequest.

Also I don't know if it works the same for the heat, but for the cold you can also equip fire weapons to warm your body so I'm assuming ice weapons work the same.

Welp. I now see that every item in this game does something, even the non-diamond ores which were the main things I was selling.

I knew I should have hoarded everything.

I feel like I could put the handheld next to my bed and just play in between loading screens, during podcasts, in between Overwatch games etc. for years.

I need to stop lurking in this thread, I haven't even gotten a Switch yet. I'm dying.

Nintendo nailed the notion of bringing dungeon gameplay to the overworld.

I just went to the Hateno and prepped with cold resist and a torch and headed up Lanaryu for the first time. Wow. Great piece of gaming right there. It's so damn atmospheric climbing snow trails at night with a blazing torch in hand, winds and wolves howling.

And to top it off I ended up finding a memory with the entire team. And I must say the voice acting in that scene was pretty damn good.

It also helps that everything about that dungeon was fantastic. From getting introduced to the characters to the traversal to the village to he backstories and relationships and finally the dungeon itself. I spent about 4-5 hours going through it all staying up till 730 am. It was so good.

I like exploration because the thrill of discovering a new shrine is amazing. Use a guide if anything so you have fast travel spots that will make exploration even more enjoyable.

Its such a black hole dude. I made the mistake of opening Zelda last night for "one more side quest" and I ended up playing for a few hours. Sigh.

Switch Zelda is the best "woke up randomly at 3AM for no reason whatsoever might as well play something" game. The system is conveniently resting next to my bed for such occasions.

It might work in the Gerudo Valley where it's just heat, but you need fireproof elixers/gear for Death Mountain. An Ice Rod won't do it.

I dont think I would ever sleep if I had that close to my bed.

Bruh. Switch it up!

Goddamn, Octoroks in this game are some fucking deadeye Annie Oakley motherfuckers in this game. They're the exact opposite of every other enemy in the game; usually if you just keep moving you'll never be hit by an enemy projectile, but Octoroks will always hit you. You have to listen for the audio cue and stop or turn 180 as soon as you hear them fire, because they know how to lead a target and they'll nail you if you don't change course.

Is there a way to shake trees to get the apples to fall down?

Cutting the whole tree down with an axe works pretty well :p

What's the deal with amiibo bonuses in this game? I bought horsey-boy link, but both times I've tapped it I haven't received a sword or a saddle...

This game definitely reminded me of a mix between Assassins Creed 2 and Red Dead Redemption as I played. I think Nintendo would do well to build on the world, exploration, physics system for future games. They always like to mix it up so who knows. Can't wait to see what the downloadable content will be.

Beat Ganon.
Never did a dungeon and never got a heart upgrade.

That was a tough fight. I lost all my fairies just trying to get to him. Although that final battle theme was great.

Should really get to the main story. I need to get the Master Sword.

So I'm on the Major test of Strength shrine. I can get the Guardian to the point where it charges and shoots 4 consecutive blast and that's where I struggle. I just finished a shrine where I fought a similar enemy and I used all my arrows, elixirs that temperarely increases my health by 5 hearts, and I only have 1 guardian double handed axe with 2 guardian shields(I also have a couple of one handed ordinary swords). I have 3 hearts and a super market worth of cooked food.

How can I beat that guardian with my current equipment and without me having to retreat with my tail between my legs?
