PS, I Love You- Greg Miller's new PlayStation Podcast

Well, to be authortarian is usually to force people into doing things, either via legislation or via some form of threats (verbal or physical). To be a libertarian is usually to value personal freedom highly, and that the state only legislates against very few, often dangerous actions. So speech, what you want to smoke, eat, who you want to sleep with, marry, etc, are things to let people do as they please.

I'm not quite sure what 'Authoritarian coddling' would refer to. Colin may be stating some dubious political stances, but I don't know if I've seen him talk about big overreaching government. Voter ID debates are probably the closest I've heard.

Not you personally Darryl. I know I see your face around in many topics. I was speaking generally, but I think I did answer my own query in regards to CM. A lot of KF fans don't do politics, hence as a large fanbase a lot of them are being outspoken now, on a singular political issue.

Generally speaking though, it can still be frustrating to see "tweet news", the modern day clickbait over stupid tweets which ends up with massive brawls online.

We can agree that a lot of KF fans don't like his politic talk but I would say that it is how he talks down on the Left more. I thought it was cool when I heard that some lanky conservative guy was a voice in gaming. But then he started using his platform to criticize the left rather than blend his conservative views with how he thinks the gaming industry should be. He is always on attack because he might see himself as the underdog, and I tailor my reaction based on this assumption.

And I agree I think certain things shouldn't be as huge as it ends up but most of these pages are just back and forth of people coming in saying the same "this is because of a joke?!" and people reply "No it is because of X"

No, I mean it literally didn't happen in this thread. You can go back and see. Look at the time stamps if you want to. What you're saying didn't happen.

I don't mean to keep replying to you... hope it doesn't feel like I'm going all in - I find this debate really interesting.

I haven't done *heaps* of research here but I just went back to page 165 and there are a couple of pages of people who are really angry at that joke before the follow up tweet.

I could be wrong (like I said), I only skimmed through it all.

The reaction this has got is unbelievable and sums up how precious people can be nowadays. Given myself a headache eyerolling at it. So glad Colin is taking this stance with it, although he probably will either eventually apologise or part ways with KF.

Jesus Christ. How many times do we need this exact completely inaccurate comment posted in this thread? We're well past 50 at this point.

He didn't say all agree

The poster I was replying to used the quoted as a "every time I see someone saying it was about the joke I'm going to post this".

I was referencing that... you can't use someone's individual opinion as a tool to shoot someone else's down.

I agree. KF doesn't "sell" itself as a political show either, it's a gaming show... and Colin's politics. So the divide and divergence has been in the works for a while. It is suppose to be a relaxed bunch of friends shooting the shit, and at times talking about anything, but the other guys don't talk politics as much as Colin. On Rubin he also did say that was his biggest passion, so for the future of KF he may well have some thinking to do.

It's kind of got to the "don't talk politics in work" advice many give. It is what it is, politics is so divisive by nature, and if you have a large popular show, that ISN'T suppose to be about politics, you can't really be surprised when fans get all pissy about constantly hearing about them. Add on top of that self-made "comedians" adding baiting to the mix, and it is the perfect storm. Low-ball jokes in politics often sink like lead balloons, not because society cannot take a joke anymore, but because there IS sometimes a time and place for them.

This thread has been a good read. I agree that Colin can't take criticism well for his actions but maybe it hasn't hit him how far his reach is with people.

Also, someone said earlier that Colin wasn't really like this in the beyond days and I guess ign played a role in that for professional reasons...

I wish people would stop speaking for kinda funny, you don't know these people and putting words in their mouths won't change anything.

Honestly to explain my point of view.

I wasn't offended by the joke or by his response.

Both were tired, predictable and childish. It's sad to see such a prominent figure act so pathetic but whatever he's being doing that for a while.

I'm more dissapointed by the people in this thread who think he did absolutely nothing wrong. Especially all the idiots who have been flushed out.

I was a kinda funny fan long before they broke away from IGN. I personally find their political discussions to he invigorating. I guess I'm in an extreme minority.

Because I've seen people say "ITS JUST THE JOKE" a million times. It's getting tiring having to explain the same thing over and over again.

Fair point!

This isn't something to "win" mate... if you're tired of it, stop doing it.

People are set in their ways.

You're the only one suggesting he is trying to "win" or shoot others down with it.

Like, come on, he and many others are simply trying to explain the foundation of the discussion.

Authoritarian coddling? In what sense?
He made a big fuss about leaving conservatism when Trump was winning the primary. Then when Trump won he went to becoming a huge defender and talking about "reasonable discourse" as if trump literally ever did that.

No one who supports Trump is a libertarian. He's a Republican lap dog.

So people are not mad at the joke itself but are mad at the fact that Colin possibly made it as a troll comment, knowing that people would get mad at the joke? So he was wrong? I definitely don't think it's ever in good taste to upset people just to upset them, but I didn't realize he made that joke specifically to upset people. That would suck, but isn't that really hard to prove?

I feel like whoever made the analogy that he did the digital equivalent of showing up to a protest in the streets to make such a joke had the most valid counterpoint. With that perspective, it's definitely an uncool move. I didn't personally think of it that way before, and I think it's also very possible that Colin didn't either.

And people should do it until they've become "tired" of it.

I'm not sure you're catching what I'm throwing.

The first mention of the tweet doesn't even get a reply until fifteen minutes later. Colin tweeted the follow-up fourteen minutes after the initial tweet.

But..that doesn't make any sense because Kinda Funny wasn't that old when they broke away from IGN.

Lol. "Cough"bullshit"coughcough"

My takeaway from this is that Colin made an insensitive joke and is being chastised for it. I personally didn't find it very funny, but I understand how someone could get upset over it. I don't see why this had to blowup the way it did. I personally don't think colin should let anyone censor him--going back to what I said about far left ultra-pc sensitivity.

Exactly, I am using a very well articulated point to simply shoot down the point "ITS JUST THE JOKE."

This way I can just copy and paste instead of typing something out.

Because he double downed. And no one is censoring him. If he wants to say things like a dipshit, he is free to.

I think the fact that he used the hashtag makes it far more likely than not he did it just to troll and upset people.

My understanding is that people are annoyed at how overblown the reaction to the joke was. A last straw kind of thing. Whether the joke was offensive or not, we've had the pewdiepie apology for making jokes involving hitler, we've got funimation making an official apology for its fujoshi hashtag, and we've got this.

I think people are just sick of being scared of saying anything that might be considered offensive, lest they get dogged for it.

Whether the joke was offensive or not, it wasn't offensive enough to warrant the reaction it got. And to be honest, neither was his follow up.

I think the fact that he used the hashtag makes it far more likely than not he did it just to troll and upset people.

I think he did it because the joke doesn't work without the oddly worded hashtag. It really sounds like he was just trying to be funny.

How so? I don't get that. I understand being upset by the timing of the joke and the use of the hashtag, but I have no trouble believing that he saw the hashtag trending, thought of the joke, and posted it without really thinking about it. I might be lacking more context here and missing something, though.

How do you think people are trying to censor him? With overwhelming criticism? I don't understand that logic. It's this defense against something that isn't happening that has people concerned.

A large part of the reaction is because this isn't the first time Colin has (seemingly) gone out of his way to cause a stir like this. He's been steadily increasing his troll-like behaviour for awhile now and this is just the latest instance where it has all come to a head.

To act like this is all about a singular tweet is reductive and disingenuous

Uh... no chance in hell he didn't know that joke was going to be offensive.

What you mean is: people want to be able to say anything they want, no matter what, with no pushback whatsoever.

If you're making jokes about Hitler, period, or making a hacky joke about how annoying you find women on a day celebrating women, you're not scared about shit. You want the controversy.
