Nintendo Says JoyCon Wireless Issues Were Caused By 'Manufacturing Variation'

Good that they acknowledged it. I just ordered a Pro controller from Gamestop, when i get it, I'll call and send mine in for repair.

Kinda shitty you have to do this, but at least they're offering something to fix it.

Should be a swap at retail level but I guess stock isn't widely available for that.
Not necessarily true. Could have been a more specific fuckup at a specific facility. Not every single unit is extensively tested.
So they didn't do extensive QA at one facility then? Still seems like a bad mistake.

They said something about foam blocking the signal I think.

It took me all of a minute to realize I had the issue. Stand back 5-10 feet, put the joy-con behind your back, run the calibration tool and move your analog in a circular motion. If its silky smooth and not skipping then you're fine. Also if you have Zelda start it up and do the same, put the joy-con behind your back and run link in a circle, if he only moves one way then you have an issue, if he moves perfectly with your analog motion then you're fine. And for those that say 'well you don't play with a joy-con behind your back', thats true but I found that I can also replicate the issue just turning 90 degrees to the side. Its definitely a shitty connection.

You need to call. Google the customer service number in your country.
This is very helpful. Will try it when I get home.

Quick question: Does anyone know the size of the box Nintendo would ship the Joy-con back in? Need to know if it's small enough to fit in my apartment's mailbox.

People do realize that Nintendo doesn't make the hardware and that the factory is responsible for QA after the initial test batch is made that obviously didn't have the issue when Nintendo tested them, right?

It seems people have no clue of the logistics of how these are made. Nintendo isn't making these out back in a shed somewhere.

Increasingly, it seems that most of GAF actually does think that Reggie is personally sitting in that shed, with a hard hat on, putting together each Switch by hand, all while diabolically cackling about how much money he's going to make by *not* selling more Switches.

Just called and the lady from Nintendo support was super nice and friendly set up my repair pretty quick and sent me a return label and said it usually takes 4-10 but could be quicker.

I expect it to be pretty quick turn around since I am in New York City and I have to ship it to East Syracuse New York.

Will be shipping it out tomorrow.

Lol Nintendo what a shitty company.

So you think you can just admit there is a problem and fix them for free and you think you are off the hook?

You should pay the consumer for the trouble. That's why you will become a mobile company and then disappear.

How do I know if my Switch is affected? I've used the Joycons in the grip and it seems to work fine. I don't think I've seen it desync.

Mine starts to desync about 5ft away from console but I have a lot of wireless stuff in my room so I'm sure it has to be some type of interference when I told nintendo support that she told me to just send it in and get it repaired since the right one is fine.

That's as good a response as you're gonna get for something like this so good for them. Mine luckily works fine. I actually have to put it behind the TV and the first time I docked it I tried using the joycons with the grip and they work. I've used the pro controller since then but I'm sure mine are fine

I just send it to their return adress with an included note of my error. And my home adress.
If you call them they will give you this return adress.

Weird question perhaps, but you send it with or without a receipt? I got mine from a friend and don't have the receipt myself :/

How do you know if you have one? I did the Gamexplain test and it only messes up if I cram it in my armpit, behind my back etc. is that considered normal or should I send it in?

Edit: just found a post

sarcasm? SARCASM!?!?!

I'm not sure if I should send mine or not. In the 145 hours of Zelda I've played it's only acted up on me about 4 or 5 times. I mean, if the fix would make this zero then I guess I should do it, but will it? Then again I've not had issues with the right joycons at all admittedly, but they don't tend to get quite as constant a set of inputs as the left so it'd be harder to notice

Hmm, maybe I should send mine in. I've barely ever had issues with it, but I still have had issues.
Same :3

I believe anal insertion is the litmus test. If the Joycon disconnect while inside the anus, conference call Nintendo and your doctor.

"No widespread repair or replacement effort is underway."

That is a mistake.

I don't (nor do you, I presume) have any actual numbers to go by, however, the internet has a way of amplifying things. This is hardly RROD level.

And my joy cons are perfect, so far. So based my sample 100% are fine. Right?

The larger problem is that some of the legit viewpoints I've seen here are so downright crazytown bananapants that one person's sarcasm is one person's serious opinion.
Oh yeah right. Nintendo will fix it for free? Fuck them they should give me Zelda for free to compensate me. And a free Zelda body pillow. Or female Link.

Well that answers my question. I'll wait to buy more joycons until next month. Hope that is enough time. Just want em for Mario Kart.

Can't help but laugh at all the fanboys who said this wasn't a problem and blamed it on the users.
Is this also sarcasm? Just trying to keep track.

Moving forward this will not be an issue, as the manufacturing variation has been addressed and corrected at the factory level.

What I hoped would happen and all I care about.

Now if the same would be done to the docks as well.

Looking forward to the holidays :)

Speaking of Joycons i noticed that if you press down in bottom area of the Joycons although they seem firmly attached they squeak a little if you force them a bit down. Do you guys confirm this? Also just went to a fnac store and they're giving snipper clips codes for purchasing a Joycon set.

So how exactly do you know if you have the problem. I've been gaming the pro controller or with the joycons docked to the systems. So Im unawares if I might have an issue, plus I wouldn't mind sending mines in for repair.
