The quality really tanked after SPD. I wonder if current disney would have treated PR like crap.
Part of the reason why they started treating it badly in the first place has to do with a whole bunch of behind the scenes stuff. For old reruns, they had to pay residuals to the actors. They tried to go for an animated spinoff series, but Toei - who pulls the strings and always has - told them it wasn't allowed. Disney tried to treat PR like any of its other properties, but there was a lot of people to please to keep it alive.
Maybe they'd be more hands off or able to negotiate it better these days, but it's all speculation.

Why is TOEI still having heavy hand in PR? I mean it's not like they are worried about the brand reputation...
Simple. Without them, there is no PR. Even the reboot movie needed the likenesses of Zyuranger.
That shit is really random and not even a single thought went to keep the balance. Keep getting high costing breaker cards and no shield, enemy keeps the yellow combo going, Nerf yellow cards pliz.

Well, I imagine Toei also makes more money from Power Rangers using actual sentai footage than it would have through Disney making an animated series as a replacement - and not a parallel project like the new movie - just using the basic likenesses. Plus Disney was supposedly trying to butt in on the production side of sentai, which equally supposedly irritated Toei and so made they levy the contract terms against them.

Question on Super Sentai. Are most series self contained or do I need to start watching them from the beginning? I wanna check out Magiranger.
But Saban has the rights, no? I mean it's TOEI's property but if Saban/Disney have the rights TOEI should mind Super Sentai (unless there are special cases like Zyu 1.5) and let PR go the direction they want, in the end Sentai will keep selling toys in Japan and if PR dies because of Saban it really won't affect the toys in Japan after all it's not like they are pushing Sentai outside Japan.
It kind of hurts that PR could be good, not gritty and dark as many people think , but it's just seen as a toy comercial, when people keep buying whatever figma or Neca release. Besides many shows are funded and they sell not toys, why can't PR be like that?
Sorry, I'm not complaining just to cause drama, I seriously want to know why can't we have a PR that rolls like HBO shows, do people think of PR as kiddy like they do with Nintendo?
