Why does everyone care so fucking much about what NeoGAF in particular thinks?

This is in the top 10 largest general forums period if you don't count subreddits as individual forums.

By default this is the largest or second largest (depending on how you do the count) gaming messageboard and the barbarians aren't happy about what is endorsed here.


All I will say is that there do exist small time gaming forums that while not as strict as GAF are still more closely aligned socially than the 4chans and R/gamings of this world.

The comments on all of Playtonic's Facebook stuff now are all completely toxic. A ton of people are decrying them for removing JonTron. The typical insults of "SJW", "cuck", and "liberal" are being tossed around like grenades.

It's fucking heartbreaking. This is a game that people have wanted for absolutely years, since long before we knew the name, long before Playtonic were formed. The developers at Playtonic risked a lot by leaving a second-party Microsoft studio to form their own independent team because they were passionate about making the same type of games they used to.

And now, mere weeks away from launch, this is the most prominent thing about it, and it's infected their own social media.

I honestly feel really bad for the people at Playtonic right now.

And it got to this point because companies weren't willing to speak out against movements like GG, and often didn't take moderation of their forums, youtube channels, etc seriously. It cultivated a landscape where people now feel emboldened.

Pretty telling that the common rhetoric is that "I just want to play games without all the politics!" but people are out there trying to tank a game company that's willing to make spiritual successors to beloved classics, the kinds of games that are rarely being made nowadays, all because they had the audacity to hold the opinion that white supremacy is not acceptable.

I wouldn't feel bad for them since they made the right call and are standing by it. The developers are rational adults and simple name calling isn't anything that hurts or harms them. Maybe a few lost sales because of this, but it's hardly significant. Like others have said, the toxic people defending Jon and shitting on Playtonic were never gonna buy the game and are just a vocal minority. Hell, I'd think all this drama is just free advertising to some degree.

As a private company, Playtonic was well within their rights and were in no way infringing upon Jon's rights to remove him from their project altogether. And I just don't understand why they would go through the work of finding my dead, buried thread.

From Playtonic's perspective it's extremely obvious which of the two sides are being unreasonable and childish. Hours before they made the decision to cut Jon there was only one thread in their forums politely asking to consider removing him. Now that they did the retaliation from the alt-right fuckwads is clearly massively disproportionate to the folks asking for Jon's removal. They know who's being childish and unreasonable. They know they made the right choice.

Well I was mostly referring to enviornment having very heavy impact on human skin tone. Its an old theory, early-mid 1800s, sounded more like psedoscience that they kind of just kept repeating in a "I guess this kind of makes sense so we'll roll with it" way, up until today.

I didn't mention success meaning quality. His videos are of higher quality than a majority of youtubers and that is my personal opinion as somebody who has watched quite a lot of his stuff. You can not like it if you want, but he doesn't just churn out shit.

This is only tangentially related but I was disappointed to find out that Destiny who originally debated Jontron is a bit of a scumbag.

After listening to his debates with Jontron and daily stormer dude I decided to check out his chat with Sargon who is notoriously shitty and it was fine and I agreed with Destiny on pretty much anything. At the end though they talked a bit about SJWs and their unwillingness to be reasonable at which point Destiny said that the subreddit ShitRedditSays had tried to ruin his livelihood some years back. This took me aback as Destiny seems like a good guy and I've never seen SRS really miss the mark on anything too badly so I went looking.

It turns out what he was referring to was a situation in which he shared naked photos of this (allegedly underage) girl in a private chat with 2 people who all proceeded to mock her. She found out about it and in retaliation posted a picture of his dick on twitter. In retaliation for that Destiny threatened to bring this matter to her boss and university specifically wondering if it would mess with any scholarship or financial aid (unclear if he actually did this). At this point SRS got involved and covered it.

He also was dropped by sponsor for calling a Korean opponent a racial slur but I'm not sure if he blamed this on SRS too.

I was really disappointed to find all this out as he seems like he does a generally good job arguing against some awful ideas and exposing the racially motivated nature of the people he talks with.
