Tesla Model 3 will be revealed on March 31st

What happened to the dashboard instruments?

There aren't any. The car apparently uses a telepathic neural network which directly broadcasts the instrument panel information into your visual field using an electromagnetic biomechanical optical air interface.

Either that, or the rumors are a HUD projected onto the windshield.

So when is the part 2 reveal? Have there been any hints?

Elon will say Part 2 was the announcement that Tesla vehicles will all have the ability for full self driving capability, which occurred in October.

He has said Part 3 will occur in the spring, probably around the same time as the initial unveiling.

4 years interest free is free money to me.

That's not how it works though.. you would still be spending 35k (not including other expenses and maintenance, electricity costs, ...) to get around on a 70k/yr salary. (Considering this example)
That is living beyond your means, which can be disastrous with a bit of bad luck.

Wait they are making this announcement right before earning. Does this mean there are some bad news coming? May be I should drop my shares.

Edit: holy shit this thread was from Feb last year, I felt so dumb.

1. holy shit this thread is from feb of last year?
2. why are we stuck on 70k year salary? That's certainly not my salary.
3. it is how it works, again im speaking on interest free loans, If you take the value of money now vs the value of money 5 years from now, the money today is worth more than what its worth 5 years from now. I've bought two cars in the last two years both of them i was offered interest free loans. for 4 and 5 years respectively. That's pretty much free money.
Yes over that time i will pay the total price of the car, but im not paying interest and i need a fucking car, so there you go.
Also lol at whoever said it makes you a slave to the bank. I could pay off my car tomorrow in cash if i wanted to, but again its free money.

HUD projected on the windshield is nice and all, but it's still better to have information displayed—even if redundantly—on the dash. The HUD on my car, for example, disappears if you wear polarized sunglasses. It's not that big of a deal because the information is generally redundant, but it would freaking suck if that was my only display.

What about air vents and stuff?

I lived at home for awhile after I got my first job out of college, so I could conceivably buy one of these all with cash. As much as I want an electric car though, it seems unnecessary when my current vehicle is working fine.

I'm holding on to this Honda Accord until it falls apart like the Blues Brother's "Blue's Mobile", but I would really like to buy the cheaper Tesla as my first brand new car.

Model S - Gorgeous. Handsome and muscular sedan. A bit generic in some lines but otherwise wonderful.

Model 3 - a bit lumpen at some angles, the "grill" looks like unfinished clay modeling and distracts from an unremarkable but inoffensive silhouette.

Model X - DERP DERP DERP DERP FATTY DERP DERP

When I see one of these on the highway I always feel sorry for it. Like it's going to roll over and burst at any moment.
Do you have the Model 3 reserved?

Any driving impressions yet? They get so much right on these, but they still haven't made any of them fun to drive.

We'll need to know your criteria for full-size luxury sedans, luxury crossover SUVs, and compact sedans which are fun to drive first before anyone can respond.

The original Tesla Roadster is literally the only actual sports car Tesla has ever built.

I don't really think so. I mean, the Model S feels like a sporty SUV itself. The closest thing I've driven to it in terms of overall feel is maybe the X5M, except not nearly as confident. You're managing the car rather than driving it, and at slight unease at times, again, similar to SUVs. In the price range, it's outclassed by pretty much everything in terms of driving enjoyment.

I'm not looking to track the thing, but when driving through the Cascades to get to Portland or Seattle, I get a huge amount of satisfaction from zipping through some areas.

It has so much promise too, with all that weight super super low in the car. They're just a bit too floaty and unsure, with probably the worst steering feel compared to similarly priced sport-luxury vehicles (except for maybe Audi). I feel like if they get it right, it'd be a no-brainer.

With the Model 3, I was hoping some of those areas would be addressed, given the overall smaller package. We'll see.

No HUD should have been known for a long time. Elon said there was no tech that was not first on the Model S in the Model 3. 75kwh is fine for launch to me. The no dual motor hurts a bit though.

Tempted to stretch and get an S and then order an AWD model 3 for our second car somewhere down the line.

Edit - nope still cant afford an S.

While that may be true, I'm not sure most thought that the dashboard would be final and that we'd be reading things off of that center display. Let us not forget how he said it would be like driving a space ship too.

I'm still holding out on the HUD. He didn't outright say there wasn't going to be one, just that there was the single display. Also AWD is less than a year away. It's not that long in the grand scheme of things.

These are rwd, right? If not, ugh, I don't want to wait for an AWD option.

That's super disappointing, by the time the AWD comes out, the 7.5k tax credit tier will be knocked down to 5k making it a less attractive purchase.

Wanted the AWD as well

I have a day one reservation primarily to take advantage of the 7.5k, but AWD is a must for me so I'm quite bummed. If AWD misses even the 5k period I will likely wait til 2020 or so.

We're planning on re-evaluating everything once our turn in line comes up. Tax credit, D anticipated time frame, option cost. Might put off placing actual order a bit to cover a couple of those. Elon thinks that when the D comes out, it will still be within the credit time frame.

No AWD is really disappointing. Living in the northeast US, it's really a must to have it, as we have snow from possibly October through April.

Damn, some of you pay a ton of taxes if you are adamant about the whole 7.5k which in turn means you make way too much money to be complaining lol

I'm super confused by your logic. You believe people who pay taxes, for the most part at a middle class rate, shouldn't be bummed about missing out on a tax credit? The model 3 is created specifically for the middle class demographic. Previously, the only group who could benefit before was upper class individuals by purchasing a Model S.

Middle class are paying 7.5k in taxes? People realize you only get that credit if your taxes are actually that much money, right ?

I'm middle class in California and I don't pay 7.5k in taxes

Really? Assuming your effective fed tax rate is 20%, you'd only have to make $37.5k for your tax bill to be $7,500. That's before deductions, but still.

Huh? Are you talking about paying at the end of the year and not counting your payroll deduction?

We may have different definitions of middle class. It's tax season; go check box 2 of your W-2. I could've taken the entire tax credit and I'd consider myself middle to upper-middle class. I'm single though, so I don't have much in the way of exemptions/deductions.

If you want AWD get a certified pre owned A4 (Quattro). Easy to find around 30K. You'll be waiting a while (and sacrificing miles) for a used Model S to get to that price.
