Rocky > IV > III > II > V. I Love each one. They all represent the times in which they were made and bring you to those places.

OP is wrong. Rocky 2 is awesome and has the best fight of the entire series. The first movie lacked the budget for proper fight choreography and the sequel steps up big time.

People praise Clubber for his out of ringtrash trash talk, but he was just a hothead. Apollo was the king of talking trash in the ring. Does anyone have a gif of Apollo taunting Rocky, dodging like Ali and calling the knockout in advance? Paraphrasing: You too slow man, (to the audience) he's too slow! Here it comes! Get ready! (mocking with an exaggerated winding punch before a barrage of strikes)... I love that moment!

Rocky > Creed > Rocky II > Rocky Balboa > Rocky III > Rocky IV

Rocky V does not exist.

They retconned Highlander 2 out of existence. How many times do you see that happening? Superman 3, 4, and Supergirl. Possibly Aliens 3 and Resurrection. But even those are after the first sequel.

Rocky 5 was effectively reconned out of existence by Stallone with both Rocky Balboa and Creed. I believe he has even said as much.

IMO, Rocky 1 was the best and each following Rocky got progressively worse, although they weren't actually bad until 4. I'm not counting the new movies here, obviously.

For my money, the worse sequel is probably The Phantom Menace. I might be taking some liberty with sequel vs. prequel, but they're basically the same thing and Phantom Menace was a big enough disappointment that it warrants a little wiggle room. I don't know of any other drop in quality that matches the scale of OT to PT.

Home Alone 3 is also an abomination. The first two were perfect, and then...

The Land Before Time spawned innumerable horrible sequels. I'm not particularly fond of the first movie, but the shit show that followed is something to behold.

Rocky II is actually my favourite episode of the serie.
The first one was good, but quite straightforward : mediocre guy has a mediocre life, current champion has a lot of hubris, for some reason they get to fight for the title and mediocre guy does better than expected.
In the sequel we see the mediocre guy suddenly becoming a rich star with all the changes and awkwardness that it implies, while the former champion becomes obsessed with his loss. Now there is a bit of depth in those characters and their story.

While Rocky 2 might be one of the least memorable films in the series simply because it kinda retreads the first one, it's really solid. Reminds me in a way of Halloween 2. Not as good as the original but a direct continuation with the exact same tone and surprisingly well executed.

The first four in that ranking are genuine dramas with real characters, 3 and 4 are fun 80s shlock, 5 I don't remember anything about.
