But you're wrong. The design wouldn't be clean if it had more features. It's not just about apps. I brought up PS4 in a thread about comparing console UIs as a point of comparison. If the Switch had as many features as other consoles, it wouldn't be clean.

How would you know this until those features are implemented? You're wildly speculating. If Nintendo follows the same design philosophies currently present in the Switch, it should remain the cleanest console UI.

It's a horizontal row of squares, which was the main complaint about the old PS4 UI. At some point things will have to change because it simply won't be practical anymore if you're storing a lot of games.

So while I love the clean minimalist look of the Switch UI, at some point they will have to add some organisation/folders or whatever else if they want to keep it uncluttered.

I'm assuming it'll get folders and also the option to have the tiles on a grid like 3DS

Used to be PS4 and now it's Switch.

It's not necessarily good though. In Switch's case, I feel that it actually lacks functions and a bit too simple.


Personally, I need more entertainment apps such as crunchyroll or netflix.

It's a bit sterile imo. I loved it at first but it's very boring now. Hope they add backgrounds and themes for those who want it

If your row of games gets too wide you get a drop down arrow and it becomes more of a grid. I agree tho that in a year or two it will probably change slightly, but theres no argument that switch's UI is the cleanest

None of the features under Knack need to be specifically there they can just as easily only show up if you press down on the D-Pad. The adverts for DLC, Season Passes and stuff you get for other games definitely don't need to be there. Essentially what I'm saying is that a UI with lots of features doesn't have to be cluttered.

The way it works now is when you highlight a square, it displays the trophy info below it. Pushing down on the dpad at that point opens up all the other stuff.

I really appreciate a good use of empty space, so PS3 wins by a landslide for being fully functional with great empty space. It allows for some excellent customization options with wallpapers

PS4 icons are too large on the bottom menu, upper menu is nice.

You can see who's online, but there's no messaging currently. They said messaging would be handled by a paid phone app that hasn't been shown off yet.

I love my Switch, but there's no denying its UI is simple due to a paring back of features.

Notice that the PS4 UI is essentially the same, but with added features and information. I agree that the Switch has an overall more appealing look, but those features and most of the information provided in the PS4 simply isn't available at all on the Switch.

Now this is the opposite of clean, pure mess on all accounts.

ok but you're not really answering my question. apps and games will be tiles, same as the ones you see now. how does that radically change anything? answer: it doesn't.

also when have Nintendo had ads on their home screens? I think they've done some ad stuff (ads being sent to the Wii U gamepad and demos/apps being auto downloaded on your home screen) but you have to opt in to it and it still operated within the UI as it already existed.
