This video is shocking. Is this honestly what the game is like? I'm so glad I've held off getting this entry and I adored the original trilogy.

Yes. This is very representative of the frequency and variety of bugs, the animation quality, the writing/cutscene weirdness of character reactions, etc. It does not feel nit picky or like it is focusing on a few things, this video just seems like a direct compilation of things you will see if you play ME:A. It's an incredible mess of a game.

Was the game budget really $40M?

Because sorry to say, you can't do at this point an AAA long cinematic RPG game with that money, in 2017, unless you are producing it in a Eastern Europe country, Russia or China.

Easy_D

never left the stone age
Can't deny the Half Life 2 comparison, that game still has some fucking good facial animations

Huh, The Witcher 3 was made with less than that. Horizon too, IIRC.

How...how did the game ship like this?

Is this typical for the series? I'm not familiar with it at all.

There is jank but the kind of jank you would expect from a last gen Unreal Engine 3 game that maybe pushed that engine too far on those platforms.

Here, EA probably stepped in and told them to ship it this month no matter what. It has been in development for 5 years so they probably just wanted to end it. Clearly judging by how much they hid it during pre release they knew it was a clunker.

Plus Bioware Montreal is the C team that up until now only made the most poorly received Mass Effect DLC's and did PS3 port work. The game director left mid project and they hired the Halo 4 writer to write its story. It was hidden from the public during the closing months of its marketing push and the MP beta was cancelled.

Its not surprising it turned out this way. Red flags everywhere.

We are giving Frostbite too much credibility. It's a fantastic engine under the right hands. Even DICE struggled getting their pretty looking engine animate right.

EA needs to either stop forcing Frostbite down everyone's throat, or they need to have proper training and learning sessions for all of it's setbacks.

The Wicher 3 costed $81 million, including marketing. Let's suppose half was game development and half was marketing budget. So same cost, but done in Eastern Europe as I specified (I didn't write that by coincidence).

I haven't played Horizon, but how long is the game? How many hours of dialogue and cutscenes have? Does it have hundreds of characters? Does it have a script equivalent to a thick novel?

Finally, that was so good! The just do it bit and the krogan fight, my god!

it's not that funny, but i don't know why i lost my shit when some random NPC is flying into the ceiling

the only thing missing in this video is a direct comparison with mass effect 1
