The Mass Effect: Andromeda Multiplayer Thread

I have a question about how +XX% max shields is calculated.

My Asari Adept is currently reporting 388 shields increased from the base of 275 with the following skills:

Juggernaut Shield +10%
Barrier Rank 1 +25%
Unyielding Barrier +30%

But for a total of +65% to max shields, I should be seeing 454 as my shield value. How is the shield calculated? Is a portion of this going to an invisible "Barrier" attribute? I always assumed the Barrier on an adept was synonymous with shield, displaying the purple bar instead.

If that's the case, then it still doesn't make sense. If I use the only pure shield boost with the Juggernaut Shield that would give me 303. Jugg + Unyielding gets close at 385... can't figure out the math to arrive at 388. What am I missing?

Just played around with numbers and basically this is what it's doing.

It starts by taking the highest shield bonus you have; in this case 30%. It then increases this bonus by the percentages of the remaining bonuses.

0.30 * 1.25 * 1.10 = 0.4125

You will now receive a 41.25% shield bonus. So now multiply your base shields by 1.4125

275 * 1.4125 = 388.4375

So say you get another Shield +25% bonus, in reality you're only getting another 10.31% of your base shield, or 7.3% of your previous shield total.

0.30 * 1.25 * 1.25 * 1.10 = 0.5156

275 * 1.5156 = 416.7969

Is the sweeper any good? Few have suggested that instead.

Burst weapons don't really work because the rate of fire buffs don't work that well on them (since it depends on your clicking speed) but you can still rock it since the stability/accuracy buffs do work. The Raptor is just flat out better.

Thanks! Will keep this in mind...when I get the gun eventually.

As long as they buff every weapon that isn't in the top 10, I'll take a bloody melee and vanquisher nerf.

I don't even have the vanquisher yet and I'm still rolling through matches with an equalizer or a revenant. Turbocharge is STRONK, yo.

I get a feeling melee and vanquisher will be nerfed soon.

Vanquisher doesn't need to be nerfed, everything else needs to be buffed. That being said, melee needs to be nerfed.

Equalizer is honestly as good as the vanquisher. Only problem is range.

Yeah, and the revenant is basically a better equalizer. First assault rifle besides the falcon (which is technically a grenade launcher) that I actually felt is worthwhile.

I can see it sweeping the battlefield clean once we get that combatant upgrade equipment. Gonna be a nice change of pace from all the melee spam.

Once I got it, it just kinda feels over. Nothing else feels as good as it does.
I have a Widow III for my salarian infiltrator which is fine on silver but it is junk on Gold.

It really feels like people splurged on packs this time right out of the gate. Seeing a lot of N7 Valiants and Black Widows which is making me pretty salty TBH.

I've been trying my best to get some of the ultra rare classes but still no luck. Really want to try out the duelist or the avenger :(

Asari Huntress is fun, first time messing with stealth grid and that skill is godlike. Visual bug for it is kinda annoying though.
Looking forward to trying this one out though I was a bit confused which way to go with it when looking at the trees.

I doubt the visual bug is worse than having to deal with the Anger epilepsy inducer I had to suffer through with the Krogan Vanguard xD

Also hoping to get some ultra rare classes some time soon, haven't even seen an ultra rare card yet :(

Of course I have every rare class *except* the one I most wanted to try, the Angara Insurgent. I love playing around with explosives :)

Was lucky enough to get the dualist yesterday! This class is pretty absurd, once you get used how to use her melee it's a ton of fun. Being able to teleport around everywhere like nightcrawler is god damn amazing.

There's something off about the aiming in this game, feels like I really have to fight with the reticle just to keep it on enemies from a distance. Don't remember struggling with scoped weapons like this in ME3.

Just started using a Human Infiltrator with a Viper X. I've been missing so many shots. :/

I really want to play the Multiplayer but I'm scared for if it will spoil any enemy I haven't seen yet. I'm at the "hoth" planet just now.

I feel the same way. While it could be lag it almost feels like animations are pulling and tugging on my aim while looking down the scope.

Feels a lot like my problems with trying to reload weapons.

You aren't supposed to aim, they designed it so that you melee everything to succeed.

I hope they bring some massive changes that actually make people want to play a variety of classes and reduce this idiotic grind.

The deadzone or something is just off with the aiming, particularly when sniping, so it just feels bad to me. That said, Infiltrator still breaks the game completely so... what can you do.

I have BW1, used it once, went back to Vanq III as its just better

Getting a Vanquisher in my very first opened pack has really ruined all other guns to me. Well, other than the equalizer. They're the only guns I've gotten that do the amount of damage they feel like they should.

I've been managing to hit most my shots, but, yeah, something feels pretty off.

Yea the deadzone on ps4 is noticeable.

Also watching that Bioware multiplayer stream was painful. Tried showing off the new apex mission with the new enemy...that never showed up 3x in a row then they gave up. Oh boy.

There was a multiplayer stream today put on by Bioware. The results were ...unfortunate.

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/132247286?t=05m59s

  • In the stream they say that weapons are weak because you must have it at level 1 and you should level it up (26:50 in the video). Meanwhile the dev and another player are playing ultra-rare melee characters and meleeing everything, and another is using the Vanquisher.
  • No new equipment this week - thats fine as it allows folks to save up for the ones this week as I bet many bought squad equipment not knowing how it all works.
  • Devs mention a Reddit post about the Apex mission where combo powers were increased by 100%, but miss the point that the thread is about how they are still weak even with twice as much damage (https://www.reddit.com/r/MECoOp/comments/62bqa5/played_the_100_detonation_bonus_gold_apex/)
  • Devs play through the advertised mission a few times before realizing its bugged and the "boss" doesn't appear. Cut stream.
  • Devs advertise a product tie-in where if you buy a wireless mouse you get an in-game weapon, however it seems the weapon doesn't currently exist in the game despite what the dev says (28:35).

I expected them to ignore the various complaints, not acknowledge them and claim everything is fine.

What a disappointment. At least the mission being bugged is hilarious.

Well that doesn't exactly inspire confidence :/

The consensus in the community on the changes needing to be made to multiplayer seem pretty universal, it would really suck if they just pretended like these issues don't exist.

I'm not hopeful. It took them months before they admitted DA:I multiplayer had some significant balance issues, and by the time they removed the "Haha, you're instantly dead" archers from the game it was far too little, too late. Weird because they were so fast with ME3.

It took them way too long to start balancing things out in that multi, I really hope it won't be that long for this.

This is a weird Mass Effect for me. I really thought I'd be luke-warm to the SP and adore the MP, but it's pretty much inverted.

ME3 was such a surprise hit, I think it was a bit of a fluke in many ways. It felt bit effortless.

This time it feels like they're trying too hard to make it better when they really didn't need to. Many of the changes are a step backwards, like not having branching skill trees for character cards, or having too many ultra rares that will take forever to level.

In fact, I'd go as far as to say ME3 MP was pretty much perfect mechanically and could have just used some nice QoL updates. Had they removed the RNG progression system for something more fair/enjoyable and kept it mostly the same but with new characters and maps it could have been really special.

But of course they weren't going to let go of that cash cow...

One really stupid omission was the accidental reload cancel glitch that gave ME3 MP a really strong rhythm. They should have coded that directly into the game.

It wasn't broke, it didn't need fixing just expanding upon.

Damn, that's bad. I wonder how did they manage to mess up the balance, especially with powers and power combos, when they had a perfect base with me3 to work off of?

So I must be imagining the fact that my Vanquisher I is several times more effective than all of my other weapons? Good to know.

Oh wow that makes perfect sense now. Wish that was explained better in the menus. Really makes the shield upgrade nodes a lot less appealing knowing how it's calculated.

Wow, that makes me feel better what a relief I'm not having any fun in multiplayer now cause my guns suck so I'll just plug away for 50 hours and pray to rngesus that I get good cards. Oh, wait that's terrible and I wish I could trade this in.

To be clear, if a weapon sucks at level 1, it sucks at level 10, so unless you get one of the very small number of reasonably decent guns, you're stuck.

Hmmm. The stream doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but we are only a week into this new MP. It might take a while, but I think they might cave into some of these criticisms and change some of the mechanics around.

For what it's worth, I'm still having fun. I still enjoy headbutting things as a Krogan, and I am wanting more classes.

Lmao wtf.

I already lost interest in playing the MP. Grinding through Bronze or Silver just to get credits and buying a RNG Lootbox gets really boring and frustrating.

Its not really fun. Weapons besides most snipers are very very weak and not fun to play.

Its a shit show to me.

Is the multiplayer in this game similar the modes featured in Mass Effect 3?

I had so much fun with the cooperative modes in that game.

I'm having crashes to PS4 home every single match. It's infuriating as it only seems to happen towards the end of the match.

Anyone else having this issue?

Did the bronze mission with the new enemy. Naturally the lobby was full of Krogans because of the melee+ damage bonus.

A bunch of Krogans running around headbutting everything was almost just like old times. Really lose something without the grunting and laughing. Fun though. When the new enemy came out it naturally turned into an old fashioned headbanger's ball.
