You don't think hot boy bishies don't amass a female following? This game looks to have plenty of those. How men being more horny due to their testotarone levels and women being more sophisticated handle fanservice in general is completely different

For most anime or manga fandoms in Japan, it works like this unless your specifically selling yourself to the creepy segment of otaku who buy all the figures for their collection, or your appealing to females specifically.

Naoko Takeuchi never designed the Sailors to be sexualized as they appealed to the shoujou demographic, yet the argument you would hear from the west is that they were designed by males by committee to be sexualized when that was never the case. Its a different type of cultural view.
The male characters are straight up designed to appeal to female otaku. That is what you don't get, because you think they need to be equally sexualized (i.e. showing the same amount of skin, because that's really all we're talking about here)

The things those two audiences want are not necessarily equal

Why do you think the guys are pretty boys in skin tight clothes if not for that?

These designs definitely don't appeal to all women, but neither do the sexualized female characters appeal to all men. They're made for a very specific audience they are targeting. And that's fine. There are other games made to appeal to other people.
The problem being that the female designs tend to be denigrating in a way that the "hot bishi" designs are not.

Personally, I don't mind too much as long as they have half-decent character creation and a selection of decent outfits, but I really hate it when people deny that a piece of media they enjoy also happens to have some problematic elements. The design is sexist, it's okay to admit that, it's okay to enjoy it, just recognize it for what it is and don't live in denial.

By that definition, tilting any piece of media or portrayal towards a piece of service to a gendered demographic is sexist either male or female, but that obviously isn't the case. What you mean to say is, in your view, women showing skin(in this case, pretty tame leggings)in games like these is sexist.

Why is this 10 pages? Did I miss something? Is there really a big fan base of God Eater players?

Some Souls players feel mislead because of the promotional campaign, the graphics look neat and there is a thick anime style as expected of the God eater devs.

We didn't even get gameplay footage but what is described is interesting mechanically. There's plenty to talk about and speculate on even if your not someone who's played God eater

Are you seriously saying that these dudes are sexualized at all? lol....
That's actually not what I was saying if you read my post.

Although I'm not sure why that one dude is wearing an almost transparent looking shirt that's showing his abs otherwise. That's about as unnecessary as the girl's short skirt.

They're designed to look hot/cool/mysterious to appeal to a certain female demographic, just like the female characters are designed to appeal to a male one. The only difference is really the amount of skin they're showing and that's what everyone's focus is on and criticism is about. Which I find a bit silly.

None of the shots are focusing on her (non-existent) boobs or butt, so I don't see what else could be sexualized about her any more than the dudes are. Except for the fact that she's wearing a skirt. Which would look weird on the guys but I guess some people are into that.

How can a moneyhat be stupid if they get paid?

Because seldom does a Microsoft moneyhat pay the developers enough to compensate for lost sales. Microsoft operated on the assumption they could bribe their way to victory, that the JRPG fandom would blindly drop PlayStation in favor of Xbox, and that the games would still sell well. Or in more cynical interpretations, Microsoft knew exactly what would happen and did it just to kneecap the PS3 by depriving it of the PS2's defining genre, not to build a JRPG fanbase on Xbox.

Nothing good came from the X360 JRPG moneyhats last gen. The Father of Final Fantasy swore off HD development, Tales games stopped getting localized, Tri-Ace had a brain-drain, and some studio I forgot folded.

That teaser being "inspired" by this is even more confusing.

In what way? You make a concept about what amounts to vampires with tokyo ghoul masks fighting monsters and taking their blood

Pretty easy concept to get inspired by

Do you think women don't also want male characters to show some skin? And do men seriously need to see skin of female characters all the time to feel catered to, completely divorced by how hot/cool/mysterious they are? This "appealing to different people" rationale sounds a bit hogwash, to be honest.

That different clothes treatment is precisely the criticism. I've tried God Eater for a bit and know that there are enough titillating on both sexes reflected in the costumes and characters (I think everyone in the main team shows their bellybuttons, ha). However, I also found it frustrating that the same no-nonsense (well, relatively) military uniform available to the male player character just randomly show skin and frills when worn by the female player character.

Love the art style. The designs look pretty cool. Sort of a Fate/Tokyo Ghoul/Prototype kind of aesthetic to the characters. God Eater 2 had Tokyo Ghoul DLC so guess they're paying homage to it here through the character's outfits. I liked how the trailer looked, but I didn't expect that to reflect the final game, nor would I probably have wanted it to in all honesty.

Got it. I'll just put it on my manga backlog then.

Well, I have no expectations, so it could help, haha. Not the biggest fan of fighting anime, though.

Read it instead, the show is incredibly censored and goes off in a different non canon direction in the second season. Though the second part of the mango starts really bad and descends into too many "LOOK AT HOW CRAZY I AM" chars for a long while before it gets better. That said best boy is finally back after being teased for 2 years so best time as any to read.

Fate/???

Nah. I don't see any F/SN or F/Z in the teaser or the screenshots.

Tsukihime maybe. I'd give you that.

Unless this is going to be made specifically for a PC running a 1080 ti, I call bullshots.

I've never seen a console (or PC) game look that clean.

I was expecting a bit more Souls and a bit less Tokyo Ghoul

Doesn't look nearly as interesting as that teaser had suggested

Its obviously bullshots, but Pro and PC downsampled to 1080p is gonna look pretty clean regardless.

Talk about hyperbole, assumption bullshit.

Misleading in what way? Aside from the art direction of the teaser, everything else seen in it lines up with these screenshots and the information that Bandai Namco has provided.

They thought it would be dark and grim looking especially the characters you play as.

I will wait till I see gameplay before making any real judgment on this game. But it looks intriguing thus far. It almost looks like a further in the future God Eater game but I know it is not.

Based on that teaser with it's still very anime looking characters? Aside from the monotone palette, there was nothing particularly dark and grim about it. This is just a classic case of people making assumptions, in my opinion.

Am I the only one who finds the super detailed masks on the fairly flat, simple, generic anime faces weird looking?

Those character faces look so out of place with the rest of the visual presentation.

How so? I think the outfits and enemy types are right at home in an anime as portrayed by the character designs themselves. If your talking about the environments specifically, there's little they could do to make them 'cartoony' in that sense if they are going for a destroyed type of world with a lot of realist elements.

If your not used to anime sure, but anime does this kind of thing a lot to the point where bringing it into a game isn't really out of place

I read a lot of manga, so maybe they do much poorly done art style clashing in shows and games, but man that doesn't make it look any less lazy and bad.

Eh lazy and bad are subjective as hell in this case. I mean anime styles are pretty straightforward. if you want to add details onto anime characters there's really only so much they can do to avoid your criticisms there in the first place.

Its definately not going to appeal to people who aren't into the over designed anime style the god eater devs use

The whole mix of realistic and anime artstyle mix is intentional. They said they didn't want fully photo-realistic or fully anime style, and it took a while for them to reach this style of visual. Whether people like this style or not is up to players of course and I can see why some people find it weird. I personally really like this mix of the style personally.

'Screenshots.'

I think I prefer the brush, paintery style of the original teaser. This looks a bit generic. But whatever, let's see what the games like when video comes out.

Hoping you can create your character in this.

i agree personally

Artstyle (of characters at least) looks like they're delivering on what Xenoblade X was going for. (a bit more fantasy to it though) I dig it, but then again I also just like how shiny everything looks

Now I truly hope it's a Scorpio exclusive. So much venom against Microsoft by certain people here. Please let go of the negativity

How is this not full anime? Are they talking about the backgrounds?

I haven't read every post but really? In this thread?

This particular screenshot doesn't feel like Souls at all. I mean, how often do you engage with several enemies at once in Souls games? Unless you mess up, of course. Also, the fact that the game offers an ally, which I believe will be active at all time, makes it feel less Souls to me. I think this isn't going to be Souls nor God Eater, but an entirely different gameplay which is adopting from the mechanics of some other games.
