Just plug the phone into the Gear VR and it will start downloading the Oculus app and support apps automatically (and you'll have to take it back out again while it does that but hey ho).

What kinda stuff is in the oculus free content?

Why does he wear the mask!?
Very has despatched my phone and case. Still says Friday 28th, but surely it'll come earlier? Just needs to arrive at yodel and they usually bring it the next day.

I've noticed no issues with going full screen on the unsupported apps so far. Was able to stream baseball video with the MLB app and use many functions within Textra without death.

I got lucky and was able to register Wednesday night. There are probably a lot of pending promotions now.
Woe is me.

This is the first time I'm getting to experience the always on clock display and it is freaking lovely.
YES

I had it turned off on my S7 because of battery life issues, but oh my god it's amazing.

OLED is the fucking future. Brilliant technology.

My first impression is that this doesn't look or feel quite as high quality as my old S6 edge..

The always on display is a nice touch

Ugh seeing that even though I have good credit Verizon wanted a 50% down payment on the phone! Fuck that went to t mobile they only wanted a 100. Plus they gave me a case and screen protector. Fuck Verizon, I've been with them ever since they bought out Alltel

Oh no don't say that, does it really use a lot of battery having it always on?
No, it barely uses any at all. In fact, in standby mode, my total battery drain is 1-3% per hour depending on what I have running (Spotify, etc.)

The battery life on the S8+ is fucking insane compared to my S7.

It barely uses any battery. I think it's like 1% per hour. I've never had any issues on my S7.
I think I was just hesitant because I was running my battery down pretty quickly. Probably unreasonable of me, maybe, but I felt the need to horde my battery if I was planning on going all day without a charge.

I don't even have a second thought now.

Define "good credit." Even when my credit was shit (less than 650), they never required a down payment from me. They have generally been great to me.

Was able to walk into Tmobile and do JOD for S8+ midnight black. Beautiful phone.
I wanted the S8 plus, but I couldn't justify the $130 down with a possible Note in a few months. I know I'll get the Note, so I went with the regular S8.

It's at 703 (that's good right?) I'm not sure if it's because I just recently broke off my family plan and went solo or what

Anyone pay full price off the bat on ATT? I want to know if I skip the month to month payments and just pay the 750 if they will unlock it right away?

Edit: They said 2 months

So, looking around, the Samsung DeX thing isn't available for another month or so?
If so, that really sucks - since, I was really looking forward to that...

I could honestly see the Note 8 legitimately being the first God-tier phone if the still have the stylus with the same battery size as the 8+, better finger print placement, dual camera's, and if Bixby happens to improve where it at least has a few useful features. I would also expect it to be 9mm thick which I would be OK with.

I have been waiting for the XZ Premium, but it is taking fucking forever.
I started to get to the point where I will bite on a Galaxy 8, but missed the promo for the VR so now am having a hard time justifying paying the same for the phone when two days ago I could have gotten more for the same

So what's the deal with the packed in earbuds? They honestly sound awful to me. I don't know if mine are defective or what. I see everyone praising them, but mine have zero bass and sound super tinny. I'll admit I'm no audiophile, but I think my old ones that came with my Galaxy S6 sound far superior.

I tried messing around with the sound profiles and upping the bass, but that just makes everything sound muffled.

I seem to be the only one that dislikes them though. Am I missing something?

I think people are getting worked up over a brand label tbh.

Are they better than standard pack in headphones? Yeah.

Are they great? Eh.

I want to see a comparison to the cheaper Xioami headphones. These have been amazing and have great build quality.

I tried really hard to trick the facial recognition with pictures of me. Could not fool it. Works perfectly when I actually look at the phone though.

Weren't people complaining that you could fool it? Is it working better because of the update tmobile sent out earlier?

Did you receive your new Bixby ears? They're synthetic equivalents to real human ears. Should clear things right up for you.

And that's why they lost subscribers for the first time this quarter lol

idk dude, i listen to some bassy stuff and i hear the bass nice and clear. Here is what i did.

Settings > Sound and Vibration >Sound Quality and Effects

UHQ upscaler on.

I also did some sound personalization and went into the Adapt Sound section. there i went to advanced section on the bottom and went through the steps. They play beeps and you hit yes or no if you hear it. i know i couldnt hear a lot of them LOL.

When did you order? I had mine with Very (UK) and it came yesterday but I ordered a little over a week ago.

Do us brits not get snapdragon? 😭

I had the same reaction at first, but yeah, the chip we get is supposedly better and more battery friendly. Don't sweat it ;)

Yeah I did all of that as well. Maybe my old pair (the S6 pack in earbuds) were too heavy on bass and I just got used to it. I just feel like everything is high pitched and tinny. All I can think of is that they have to be faulty because I can't imagine anyone saying these are great. Not saying anyone who likes them is wrong, just that my pair sound awful.

Well my S8+ arrived today, after setting it up and messing around with it for around an hour I thought I might boot up Dolphin and compare the emulation speed with my 6P and... well it ran like shit in every game I tested, even worse than my 6P, I thought there might be some performance setting on the S8 that is disabled or it might be the version of dolphin I was using as this is the complete opposite of what people were saying online, so after going through 7 different releases of dolphin I gave up. I then installed Aida64 to check what camera sensor I got and... it seems us Australians have gotten the Exynos variant this time round as my S8+ has the Exynos 8995 in it and upon further research I found this:

So a precaution to anyone expecting to be able to run dolphin on the Exynos variant of the S8, it actually runs worse than a phone with a Snapdragon 810.

Well, they are not making me gasp, but they are decent and get the job done for me. If i want to indulge in the audio more, i would use my pioneer hdj2000s.

for earbuds, i think they get the job done. better than my earbuds i got with my s7. just a little bit though.

sell your AKG and use your s6! problem solved and you make some $$$ ;)

They're ok, Not $99 worthy IMO but definitely better than most pack-in earbuds.

Is anyone having issues with Contacts through Google not syncing? Hasn't properly worked since I set the phone up.

Pretty bad red tint on the right side of my screen. Not really a big enough deal to make me return it but I'm still pretty bummed. It's really distracting for normal web browsing. I'd probably honestly be fine with it if it was on both sides of the screen, but it's pretty annoying having the right side of everything be a different tone. Really just makes me more excited for the Note 8 so I can jump to it with JoD.

This sounds like maybe you aren't getting a great seal. Usually a sign of a bad seal is a lack of bass and tinny sound. Try the other included ear tips. The included earbuds are nothing extraordinary but they are definitely better than the ones included with other phones I've bought.

No:

Reading online, it just seems like the YouTube app is a bit shit, don't know whether it can be helped without an update.

I'm not super impressed with the headphones by the way. They're plenty clear and I usually loathe in ear phones, but the ergonomics of these are all right, but there seems to be no bass whatsoever. Glad I didn't pay €100 for them. Free is good though (though I'd have much preferred gear VR).

Tinny is the right word. They're a bit clearer than the S6 pack in imo, but yeah no bass whatsoever. Not sure if I keep them or go back to the previous ones. The cord not tangling up every time is cool tho.

Oh good idea, I'll give that a shot and see if they sound any better. Thanks

EDIT: Okay I have to say, this made a night and day difference. I thought the original ear tips felt uncomfortable so I immediately swapped them to the smaller ones. On the smaller ones they sounded terrible, tinny, and no bass. I just now put the original ones back on and now I can see what everyone was talking about. I think they sound great now. Thanks for this tip!
