RIP Erin

Erin Moran who famously played Joanie Cunningham on "Happy Days" and its spinoff "Joanie Loves Chachi" has died ... TMZ has learned.
We're told authorities in Indiana got a call just after 4 PM ET Saturday from someone reporting an "unresponsive female." EMT's arrived and found Erin Moran's body ... she was already dead.

Moran shot to spotlight in the early 70s when she was cast on "Happy Days" as Joanie, the younger sister of Ron Howard's character. She continued the role in 1982 alongside Scott Baio in "Joanie Loves Chachi" but the show only lasted one season.

Erin had a tough time after her "Happy Days" stardom ... a combination of drinking and bizarre behavior that eventually landed her in a trailer park in Indiana. She had run out of money and was reportedly kicked out of the mobile home she shared with husband Steve Fleischmann.

Awe, that's an unfortunate but unsurprising end. I remember a reunion special they did in the 90s that she was the only one to not attend being the first sign of issues, and it never really got better from there.

Goodbye blue skies and hello gray.

IIRC, she gave an interview in the 80s in which she described the cast as "a bunch of creeps."

15 minutes in and no posts? No one loves Joanie.

RIP Joanie
Yeah I thought the same thing at first, maybe it was a repost but I searched a lot first. Then again, she belonged to a different generation of folks than who I assume are the bulk of GAF. But I am and I liked the show a lot. :(

Damn that's a tragic story. I watched a decent amount of Happy Days when I was a kid, and I remember her being a good actor. RIP

Oh man, I just heard the theme song in the radio yesterday while driving too.

RIP to her. It sounds like she had a pretty rough time of it after the show ended.

RIP Joanie. =(

As a child of the 80's I had a huge crush on her. 56 is way too young to go but she had a rough life after Happy Days ended. I will miss her.

When I was a young kid Nick at Night started airing Happy Days. I binge watched the marathon when they were first airing it at my now deceased grandfather's nursing home. At such a young age I fell in love with all the characters. It's such a sad thing to hear about. The show made me fall in love with the era of roller skates, leather jackets, juke boxes, and poodle skirts. RIP

I can't wrap my head around how she could be broke. Even if she blew through her money right away Lotto-style she could have made enough from conventions over the years to live pretty well.

Do you wanna live in a trailer park anywhere?

I know a dude who lives in a trailer park by the beach. The area is expensive as fuck but he pays about as much as it would cost to rent a room from someone.

Doubt she went to any conventions.
And it was a big cast, it's hard to say how much she made per episode.

What do you mean by spectrum?

I imagine he means that you can't base someone's living situation on a stereotype.

Erin Moran didn't die because she lived in a trailer park.

Ah ok. That makes sense.

Yeah. Also, the "do you want to live in a trailer park anywhere?" comment reminded me that yes, there are some you might want to live in. There are good ones and bad ones. There were three trailer parks around where I lived, and I eventually lived in two of them after high school and during college. A friend eventually moved to the third.

One was a very well maintained park, with named, paved roads, well landcaped property, well lit, etc. As far as mobile home parks go, it was quite nice. I enjoyed living there. (Google image search "nice mobile home parks".)

Another was more middling, but not trashy. Older homes, some in need of repair. Some of the cliche images when people think of trailer parks - old cars out front, poorly built, aging wood decks, not as well maintained property. Generally lower income folks trying to get by, with the occasional sketchy neighbor.

Then there's the one outside of town, that was basically a loosely organized dump with aging mobile homes dotted around it. I feel like the comment was referring to that last one, which is how they tend to get portrayed. That's our collective mental image of trailer parks. But that's very much not how many of them are.

Sorry for the derail, just filling in some context. "mobile home park" tends to conjure one image where there's a pretty wide spectrum. I don't like seeing it used as shorthand for anything. Clearly, she was poor, though.

At any rate, sorry to hear Moran passed so young. I was not aware of her situation after Happy Days - I recognize her from the photos - but life was not kind after the show, it seams. RIP

I'd imagine quite a few people who live in trailer parks are incredibly grateful just to have a roof over their head. I also cannot help but believe many of them choose to do so as it is within their means. When my Aunt died and my Uncle no longer wanted to live in the house they lived in and was also having trouble affording their house, he moved into a trailer park development and he still talks about what a good decision it was.

But dont let me rain on your parade by sharing a realistic positive story about someone who lives in a trailer park. By all means keep judging others character by such clearly evident character defining traits as where they can afford to live. It is a great look and does not make you seem like a condescending person whatsoever. Like not at all.

Enjoy your mansion.

Back then royalties from syndication didnt really exist. So once the show was over no cash flow.

Sad..
