I've got these as my home / lock screens

Wait for the note 8 if you are thinking about the plus. I bet that addresses the fingerprint position. Maybe dual cameras too.

Hmm, wasn't really thinking about the plus. Is there such an issue with fingerprint stuff? Although possible dual cameras is quite tempting as I've gotten more and more into taking photos with my phone over the course of my s6. Don't really care for stylus though : /

Is there an easy way to add a custom sound for notifications? In ringtones there's an add option but there isn't for notification sounds.
Settings->Sounds and Vibrations->Notification Sounds. Also, you can individually choose many apps' notification sounds in their settings.

I wouldn't label it an "issue" it's just a really annoying placement. With my case I essentially have to jam my finger over the sensor in an awkward way. I also personally don't think it's that big of a problem when we have facial & Iris options which work very nicely.

What case?

Probably this one (going off his other post above).

Galaxy S8 Plus Case, Caseology [Coastline Series] Slim Transparent Hybrid PC Panel Bumper Case [Clear Contrast] [Orchid Gray] for Samsung Galaxy S8+ Plus (2017) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XJ89DDT/?tag=neogaf0e-20

If I didn't like my Spigen as much as I do, I'd be all over that.

Yeah this one. There was a code on Slickdeals for it when ordering from Caseology directly. Not sure if it's still workkng.

Bought thhe Galaxy Pack but the battery life was taking a big hit so went back to the infinity one.

Also, backed down to FHD+. Is there any benefit from the higher resolution right now?

And fucking glass screen protector falls off because the little glue they used went to shit. Crap.

Damn, not having, a good go at it are you? What's the usage like? I listen to about 3 hours of podcasts, browse gaf, and have the always on display during my 10 hour work day, while still having galaxy pack on, highest resolution and still be at 50%

Hmm. Might plump for the s8+. The difference in specs between it and normal s8 seem quite minimal, rather than a "holy shit I need X or Y" or something like that, but if I can get a reasonable trade in on my s6 etc to basically null the upfront cost, the monthly is doable.

The novelty of the Note is not entirely lost on me, but it just doesn't seem...like it would be worth it, for me personally

Medium is too much for me haha. I want the opposite. Let me overclock this thing to give me a smoother experience!

Still trying to figure out what things I can tweak to get this as smooth as my pixel or at least close.

Just got an S8 after being on iPhone for the last 5 years. I have no idea what I'm doing. Any must have apps or settings I should mess with?

You can set it on mid and still have CPU running at 100% while on mid...

Not sure what you're trying to achieve with the stock software. If you truly want to unlock the full potential, you're going to have to root and install a custom kernel.

I love mid setting because I set turn off background connection when the screen is off. I'm on my work computer most of the day so I'm connected to hangouts anyways. I only care to be connected when I'm actually using my phone to check on stuff. I still get text messages and calls, which I can immediately respond to

I've been looking at upgrading from a Nexus 5x. Really looking hard at the S8 but am scared of Samsung OS and their bloat. For those who have it and were previously on a more vanilla Android, how is it? Can you customize it enough to mimic that experience?

So I gave up in got an S8 because I got a pretty good deal ($700, free shipping, no tax). Essential accessories? Currently using a Motorola X Pure so I have some 2.0 Turbochargers but will need USB-C cables. Anything else?

I mean it's still basically Android with added features. What you do in stock is the same here, can even flip the nav buttons to stock layout.

If you want something more like stock, pixel if that's in stock, or maybe a one plus 3t?

I'll have to look into that case. I hate my current case and accidentally threw the box away, opps. Its the Spigen ultra thin Nano clear case but it bends too much and feels like it will come off. I love the thinness, but that's it.

Good screen protectors for a S8+?

Sand will make quick work of the Gorilla Glass, so I really need one.

There really doesn't seem to be one. Those saying the screen is fine in of itself likely are coming from nothing more risky than boxes and rushing commuters.

Sand, steel, molten slag, demo material, tools of all shapes and sizes...the extra barrier is necessary. I'm lucky in that an injury has put me on flagging and similar non engaging tasks, but that's coming to an end soon.

The LifeProof cases may be a good substitute in the coming months once they go to market.

Well, the glass screen protector finally fell off. Waste of 16 bucks. Cancelled the Zagg preorder because it was the same shit.

It is in an Otterbox Defender case and I carry it on the belt clip, so at least the screen is covered that way.

Pray for me brother ;-;

Not sure if it's due to the Binge On bullshit they introduced but I'm getting truly terrible 4g LTE speeds on tmobile in Los Angeles.

It feels great in the hand. More premium than most of the Amazon brands.

I'm gonna need Samsung to put out some Nintendo Switch inspired controllers. Maybe a shell you lay the phone into with joysticks and buttons on either end.

So, my WhatsApp alerts and text message alerts show up in a cool bubble at the top of my screen.

Is there anyway for me to get NY Times Notifications, Arlo and various other apps to post a notification to the screen? I get an audio alert for them but they go straight to the notification shade.

I only seem to get them when I'm doing something else like watching a video. It'd be nice if we could make them bigger as well.

That's the edge lighting notification doing the bubble. Unless something else controls that I'm not aware of. Settings/Display/Edge screen/Edge lighting/Manage notifications

If you're scared then wait a while and just buy the off contract version when it's cheaper. I don't have the S8, but there are definitely some things you can adjust to create a stock experience. Material theme from theme store + Nova launcher will get you there. This combination is better than stock Android IMO, because it's just as fast and smooth and you get the additional useful TouchWiz features.

My VR shit arrives tomorrow. Question though: if I already have a PSVR and a PS4pro, is there really any reason to keep it? I could probably get $50 for the headset and controller. Any impressions on it?

vr porn is novel, but besides that, everything else is naturally better on more powerful things.

This is what efficiency looks like. God damn:

This what it looks like when you do a lot of GAF browsing in black theme and texting on a black themed keyboard with a black and blue themed texting app. I think I did spend half of that time either on Hangouts or browsing other websites too.

But that one guy a couple pages back said you can't get 7+ hours of SOT regularly...

sot isn't the best metric though lol. really does matter what you do!

gaf mobile is super light (can load quickly even on 2g speeds when i was throttled in japan).

I assume thats obtainable on many modern phones if you are on gaf all day :p

On heavy use I get 5 to 6 hours on screen in a day, so that would be browsing a variety of sites, streaming music, and gaming bit/streaming youtube at 1440p OR taking a lot of photos/video if I'm on vacation. This almost never happens though because I'm at work and don't use my phone that much.

Does anyone else think the sound on this thing is relatively bad with headphones? I fixed it by playing with the equalizer but the stock sound was really muddy with my Sennheisers.
