Gamestop: Nintendo Switch Selling out in hours not days (Mario Kart Launch info)

They sell out pretty quick when our stores gets like 5 each. =P

They don't sell out quick when they put up $500 bundles. =/

How long does GameStop plan on doing these forced bundles? Switches have been sitting at my local store for like a week. If I didn't have this GS credit, I could have easily bought it from Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart, or Target.

It just seems so pointless now.

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I'd be pretty surprised. 900k units of hardware sold in the month of April would be absolutely nuts.

Target alone has 1800 stores in the US. They probably collectively got 100 units per store a month, or 25 a week. That's 180,000 units in one major retailer alone.

Its easy to sell out when Nintendo is only sending in like 5 per store twice a month.

Easily triple that for Gamestop for the month of April, at least. They have 6000 stores in the USA. That's at least 100k units just from Gamestop.

So does anyone want to start taking bets about how they manage to botch their next system? Seems to be a Tick-Tock Situation going back to the Gamecube. lol

"Nintendo Switcheroo" featuring a questionable VR hook that is the main focus of marketing and initial press, confusing everyone into think its a VR add-on for the Switch.

As long as they can get away with it. =P

Or until demand slows I guess and stores receive steady supply.

Nintendo have a certified hit on their hands.

The key to continued momentum is the software support has to he there. They can't afford long droughts like we saw with the Wii U. Fortunately Nintendo seems 100% aware of that as the release slate for 2017 looks very good

Only dryspell seems to be the August-September period, as my bet is Fire Emblem Warriors is the October game.

Suits me fine, i need a 6-week period to probably digest Fire Emblem Echoes. Certainly not in May when i'm still deep in Mario Kart 8.

When's Sonic Mania supposed to come out?

I don't get the salt reference. What's it from?
Basically this:

Also, of course Switch sells out in stores in hours. It is the single most micro-managed console in the 10 years I've worked there. I'm talking hourly calls, emails, attach meters, hounding, and constant pressure to sell these things every time they appear.

Why this is...well, I don't have to say much more. It's pretty obvious. =P

(One big thing is that it is pretty much the ONLY sales driver for video games for the summer. It's dry bones people.)

Gameslop needs a unexpected hit product, sure. But other places are getting larger shipments and selling them just as quickly.

Well yeah. I wasn't commenting on other places. I was commenting on GS since this is a thread about GS.. Switch is selling great in general.

Hopefully everybody that wants one can gets one. Everybody that wants one should have one by August. Just waiting on Nintendo to give me a reason to buy it.

Well deserved. It's one of the best consoles I ever owned.

You turn it on and you are in your game within 2 seconds. It looks cool. Playing Mario Kart 8 on the go is crazy. Go buy one if you haven't yet!

As someone who hasn't really enjoyed BOTW at all I have been incredibly underwhelmed with my purchase (this thing is flat out going to collect dust until splatoon 2) but I'm not surprised it's selling well. Nobody wanted a Wii U and this is the successor to the 3ds which still sold pretty well. Folks predicting Wii U sales for a system that's still a Nintendo handheld were silly.

Hey man the second best launch since the 90s clearly shows Nintendo is trying to create artificial demand!

I think the "since the 90's part" was just from NPD since they only began tracking this in 1995. It's safe to say this has been the second biggest launch (in the US anyway) period.

I don't understand why the games don't have longer invincibility frames after getting hit. CTR got it right decades ago.

But why Mario Kart is maximum salt. It's designed to elicit the most amount possible. It's what draws casuals to it and gives them that every dog has it's day moments.

This is why people love and hate Mario Kart with deep passions all at the same time. That shit is rage inducing and everyone at some point will have a race turn out like that.

That's the thing though, and why the games (and Smash too for that matter) are so popular. For most people, the situation in that gif will create a room full of laughing people, including the victim, rather than broken controllers.

Well deserved. I love my Switch. Can you imagine the sales when POKEMON releases?

My.

God.

the first proper pokemon will (not would) catapault the system to crazy heights. If Capcom moves the mainline Monster Hunter series over. We could be looking at a tight race for first place between Switch and PS4 if both of those happen.

Posted in the wrong thread so I'll repost here, MK8D is now the bestselling game of the year on Amazon.com
Of course we can't assume that this translates to general US performance, but if it did then MK8 outsold BOTW's 2 months of Switch sales in a day. That's bonkers to think about.
