None of fights in Super have the same feeling of "impact" like they had in Z. That's one of my biggest gripes about Super.

I generally feel the same way. There are a few exceptions though.
Watching the Super dub reminds me that goku v beerus was a lot better than I remember, minus the punching part.

Goku Hit got better as it went

The 17 episode taught me a lot of people didn't know 17 had an energy blocking attack that was iconic in the 17 vs. Piccolo fight.

What really D: ?

He didn't say that, he said "considering his original power, he should have been able to do better."
Piccolo talked about how Gohan is strong in this episode and told him that it doesn't matter how strong he gets if he can't evoke his "original strength" and tells him about how his "overeagerness" is what's holding him back and later tells him about his arrogance.
Basically the issue is that Gohan has been fight wrong, not that he's weaker, Piccolo tells him that he's strong more than once and that that isn't the issue.
Through out the episode they say "power" and "strength", but seem to be specifically referring to Gohan's Ultimate from more than anything.
Either way they're going to train more.

You have good points but you can't possibly spin that they heavily implied Gohan wasn't up to the standards he set for himself.

It's not like Super Saiyan 2 sucks anyway. You can be strong and still be weaker than your peak. Which is what they implied here.

Remember he used to be weaker than his teen self when Buu saga started due to slacking off, so Piccolo telling him he is strong just meant that he hadn't been slacking and was at his regular super saiyans levels. Piccolo told him he was strong before the Super Saiyan 2 yet that didn't make much difference in the fight. So he couldn't possibly be that strong.

The Yamcha scene was funny but the fact they included something like that acknowledges he WAS the sort of character who would be involved in something like this team at earlier parts of the series. Why should Krillin and Tien get power-ups and inclusion while Yamcha is left out in the cold? I LIKE that Roshi is in over Yamcha. There are so many characters in DB it doesn't make sense for every fighter to have a role in every arc. I think have some core characters every arc but have the supporting characters rotate. I love that Roshi, Krillin and Tien are getting power-ups and inclusion. I just don't like that Yamcha is being left out WHILE BEING MADE FUN OF AS WELL. That's the part that irritates me. He could be used as a decent supportive role in the next arc, but with the way he's being made fun of, it seems like Super is relegating him to forever being excluded from things of value at this point. His scene in tonight's episode really works well with the title of this thread

I mean, you would hope that after years and years, the strongest characters would surpass enemies that have been dead for years.

If you meant fat buu, well he also got more powerful.

I meant the big buu that Mystic gohan fought. Is there a name for him?

Going through the DB/DBZ saga, i though only Saiyan have infinite potential. Piccolo used to cower in front of the Kaioshin in Buu saga, and we know the Kaioshin is peanuts compared to the 3 saiyans and tabula already.

My head is spinning now that Piccolo is mystic gohan level. I guess that is still ok since mystic gohan did just beat piccolo clones. So Piccolo is still pants compared to 17 who managed to hold up to a SSB.

He's not really mystic Gohan level though, I mean Gohan took his arm with like zero effort. Piccolo just got a cheap shot in when Gohan was completely unguarded.

Yea, he's kind of a sad sack and honestly the jokes seem a little mean spirited.

Yamcha had his day when he beat SSB in the baseball episode.

I doubt Roshi,Tien,Krillin can score any big wins in this ToP arc.

In a few arcs we're going to need a bad guy the group has an attachment to, and Yamcha can fulfill that category.

At least we're laughing with Yamcha, and not at him.

That's like one of the few notable things about him lol
It helps that we got 2 cool new attacks at once. Hellzone grenade, and the energy shield.

Well tell yourself that Piccolo's base was far beyond Frieza's base. The only issue with Piccolo, is that unlike 17 who got taken out before he got a chance to train, Piccolo has been training all his life. So he definitely reached a wall.

But so did Vegeta at some point. If you remember, when he got out of the HTC the second time, he was still much weaker than Goku and Gohan.

I guess it takes some characters longer to find the keys to improve themselves significantly.

Piccolo should have never been sidelined, let's just forget how the characters were handled in the buu saga, and it should make a bit more sense.

Also Piccolo was on par with ssj2 Gohan, not mystic Gohan.

We have seen that "surprise attacks" can take out far more powerful beings. (like sorbet vs blue Goku)

That being said i'm sure he'll be near that level after they're done training.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
Yeah. If you look at the lips, Fem!Broly wears lipstick unlike Caulifla. It's either two different characters (what I think now) or a completely different design.
or shes going for the surprise making people think she aint shit

Oh, thank you, someone gets it!

Gohan is strong, but the point Piccolo and Goku were making was that he could be much, much stronger and an overall better fighter. Not just match where he was several years ago.

To be fair they *did* make a huge deal of Gohan regaining SSJ2, being a huge enough power to signal Goku's IT before instantly crashing Gohan.

That wasn't Super Saiyan 2, that was just Super Saiyan. And it was a big deal since Gohan nearly ripped his body apart.

What really D: ?

Being rusty doesn't mean you're necessarily weaker. Goku called himself rusty at the beginning of this arc and was mocked by Beerus. Yet, no one claimed his power actually went down.

They don't just want Gohan to be as strong as he was several years ago. They want him to be stronger, so reached the full breath of his current power. And this really isn't like the Buu Saga since Gohan actually does train and did it for at least eight months after the Resurrection 'F' Saga. He just got back in shape more or less and stopped, when he could have gone further.

Redemption been here for a while. You know, when they put him back on as a show regular.

I'll keep moving the goalpost if we're going to get more Gohan.
Honestly I was satisfied with Gohan after 80, everything else has just been extra.

I think Gohan has been in all but 1 episode since 78. Even 87 he was in for a minute.

Evolution.
Toriyama and everyone else forgot.
They could always have the excuse of cutting them off screen, but we literally saw Bulla being born lol.

Didn't they talk about tails with Cabba on the last arc? This is more like a huge omission rather than Toriyama simply forgetting.

Piccolo can now beat the shit out of Frost.

Please make it happen Toriyama/Toei.

That is if Frost didn't get stronger himself, especially if he gets an Ultimate form like Frieza :p

Which I think is possible after Vegeta sent him flying into the barrier. Makes no sense for people in U7 to get stronger, while U6 doesn't. Especially since it's confirmed Hit is stronger than before.

Considering the fact that Frost has a part of the OP to himself I get the feeling he's not going to be a throw away character.

I fully expect Frost to have an "Ultimate Evolution", I just hope it isn't just gold though. I mean, I wouldn't be upset, but it'd be a bit disappointing.

Whis removed it clearly.

Hoping for Green for Piccolo.

The one problem with Vegeta not going Blue against Frost, Frost could have made it Blue to mock Vegeta, which I thought would be better than green for Piccolo, but I'll take that over Gold.

I don't think it will since it's implied Frieza chose the color to mock Goku. Frost could do the same if he feels personal vengeance against Vegeta. It really depends if Frost holds a grudge.

Why am I so excited for this? It looks sooooo dumb, but I love it!

Frost being knocked out by Super Saiyan Vegeta makes me think he'll just pick gold.

I feel like this episode in particular was meant to address the fear of him repeating the same arrogant mistakes in the tournament. I'm actually really glad they touched on a subject that's lingered for years with Gohan.

It's good they addressed it now, before he gets his big training episode.

Yeah, I didn't think Mystic Gohan was that bad, or at least as bad as SSJ2 Gohan in that department, but I guess when you're spending half the time mocking the enemy instead of fighting, and you don't have the excuse of being a fusion like Vegito and Gotenks, there's a problem.

I had the stupidest smile on my face during Gohan's comeback. I hope their tag team technique is a father-son special beam cannon or something.

When is it implied Freeza chose gold to mock Goku's SSJ transformation?

Every sub/dub I've seen he's just like "Oh, yeah, I know it's gauche but let's call it "Golden Freeza!""

Oh my god Toshio (Super's writer and script writer) responded to Kagari, SolVanderyn and me.
Whaaaaaaaat?

Oh wow, he did

When did he say that? How does he get to choose the color?

From the Japanese version;
"I settled on gold-colored to make it easy for you to understand. Perhaps it was too on the nose. If you will forgive the tacky naming, shall we call this "Golden Freeza"? But then, you appear to realize that my color is not the only thing that has changed..."
