Early reactions to Alien: Covenant are in

Polygon link. Tweets inside.

Alien: Covenant, the followup to 2012’s Prometheus, is receiving pretty warm praises ahead of its release.

The film had its world premiere in London, England last night and many in attendance began tweeting their immediate reactions after the lights came up. The biggest trend that can be gauged from the reaction is that Alien: Covenant fixes what Prometheus got wrong. Covenant is apparently much scarier than Prometheus, and feels like a traditional Alien movie.

There were a couple of people, however, who thought that some of the scenes’ execution could have used tightening. A few critics described it as messy and, even those who really enjoyed it, argued that like Prometheus, there will be some audiences who don’t like Covenant as much as the original films.

Post more if you find them!

Cretinously credulous
I just rewatched Prometheus and it wasn't as bad as I remembered it to be. Hopefully covenant is even better.

If early reactions could be taken seriously, Thor: Dark World and Batman V Superman would be considered to be among some of the greatest movies of all time.

I'll wait for the official reviews.

Sounds like more Alien kills, more action, some bland scenes, and less exposition.

Fine with me. Then again, I didn't hate Prometheus.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
I still hate when the dude sticks his head in the opening egg in the trailer without a care in the world. That's just so dumb

I mean at least that dude was some rough neck who didn't know what the fuck was going on. The guy in Prometheus was a scientist who is well aware some horribly shit went down in an alien research lab.

LOL Like this needed to be said?

Either way, Glad Ridley got a second chance to return to the franchise again after Prometheus. Really liked it but it obviously wasnt what people were expecting.

I never take early impressions seriously.

One I'll always remember is a film writer on Twitter who said Age Of Ultron made them cry tears of joy as it was the perfect comic book movie.

Hyperbole and early access to films will always taint things.

Yeah for me Prometheus is a weird one. Like, I can easily see everything wrong with that movie but even still, I've watched it like 5 times and I've enjoyed every viewing.

Can't wait for Covenant.

Honestly, the geologist getting lost in the ship when he has a map, after everyone else made it out fine without one, is dumber than the biologist thinking a penis cobra is cute.

Sounds fine. If it's like Prometheus, then I'll probably enjoy it fine, although I'm expecting a much better ending.

Agreed! Hyperbole is generally what happens with these sorts of early reactions. No way to know what the general consensus may be until reviews come out.

Even if it was one of the best films ever made, you'd get this reaction.

I was really disappointed by Prometheus' story, but it was clearly a beautiful movie. That opening shot of the ship looking so small as it jets through space was amazing.

Fix the script, and they might be onto something.

Everything about Prometheus is so unsatisfying. It tries to be so many things that it ends up cannabalizing itself. It's neither a satisfying monster movie, sci Fi movie, or drama.

If Covenant can focus and at least be a competent and satisfying monster movie, I'll enjoy it more than Prometheus.

God's had his chance.
Soooo there was a "20 things you need to know about Covenant" video my bud sent me yesterday and suuuuper light spoilers here concerning the end of Prometheus and this movie...

The video said that Covenant takes place on the Engineer home planet? Like I really enjoyed the prologue video they released a few days ago but... really??? not only is this starting to make space feel awfully fucking small but you divert your colonize space plan to check out a distress beacon? The engineer home planet is covered in death goo spores and proto-aliens? ...

I can probably shut my brain off and enjoy some decent Aliens style horror here if need be but I really REALLY want to enjoy a movie about the Engineers and the lore involved here and more and more it sounds like that's just not at all what any of these movies are going to be.

Are those the best impressions that professional movie critics can give?
Some scenes could’ve been done better,it feels like a Alien movie and does some things better than Prometheus(whatever the hell that means).
