Prey (2017) |OT| Trust no one. Not even your shelf

Since I had an absolute shit ton of materials but couldn't craft neuromods, I decided to go nuts with ammo crafting.

Probably enough to take care of the rest of the game's enemies.
What difficulty are people playing on? I'm on hard, and I never have a lot of ammo. And I've only given myself two powers because I want to keep turrets friendly

Possible ending spoilers.
I think I'm close to getting alien abilities, but I read somewhere
that going full alien would block out the ending to escape.
Is that true?

I'm only playing on normal. Really only playing for the story and atmosphere. Combat is my least favorite aspect, especially with that ps4 drift happening. Also, if you hack turrets before you go full alien, would that stop them from attacking you? Or do you have to hack them again?

Ok this is weird. The Gloo cannon vanished from my radial menu. I hold Y and I have all kinds of weapons but the Gloo cannon isn't there. How do I add it to that again?

bah. played for 3 hours so far. anyone think this game isn't fun?

I wouldn't describe it as a fun game, but I am enjoying it. DOOM is fun. Mario Kart is fun.

Most of the moment to moment gameplay seems to consist of going room to room, picking up shiny things, running shiny things back to recyclers, reading books, etc. Inventory management and story telling with the occasional fight here and there.

But what makes it captivating is the setting, the music and and the narrative. It's got a very cool hard sci-fi feel (by video game sci-fi standards) and I'm enjoying the inventory/skill management, which are two mechanics I'm generally very tired of nowadays since every other game seems to have them in one way or another. Using these things to effectively navigate your way through the environment and learn the story of Morgan Yu and Talos I has been pretty engaging for me.

Basically it feels way more RPG than I thought it would and I'm enjoying it because of that.

No idea how it works on a pad, but on PC there's a "favorites" option when you highlight over an item in your inventory that you can set to a numkey. I'm guessing that corresponds to radial menu slots for console players.

I believe adding it to favorites does the trick.

Yes! This did it. Thanks :)

I'm exploring all the places in Talos I lobby again before I continue the story. I just hacked into the I.T. Security room and as soon as I enter the room and go right I see the supply closet. But it can't be hacked. I'm gonna assume I eventually find the keycard for this? Because still right now I miss keycards, like one from a guy called Hendrik Devries. A fellow Dutchman haha.

Easy or normal, can't remember which. Like pandora said above, the combat is definitely the weakest aspect of the game, so I don't really want to get stuck anywhere.

I'm loving all the exploration though, which is why I have so many crafting materials. I also break down most of the food and booze I come across.

Actually enjoying the exploration and finding ways to traverse the station so much that I just bought Dishonored 2 lol. Hope it's good.

Without spoiling anything: Is there any major benefit (other than turrents not seeing you) to avoiding all alien powers? I'm wondering if there is a story payoff based on something January said, and I haven't touched the alien powers so far as a result. Is this stupid? Am I missing out by avoiding them, or is the payoff worth it?

Do different powers affect your Typhon level differently? I grabbed the kinetic blast early on and was below the threshold, then I grabbed mimic and it pushed me over.

I'm probably one of the few on this, but I really love the combat, especially once you get a variety of tools, weapons and Alien abilities to give you an edge on the Typhon

Then again, I'm playing it on PC in M/KB, so I'm probably biased lol

Honestly as a fellow keyboard guy I was expecting the mimics to be hell on earth, but...

>_>

I really don't know what game you guys in the demo thread were playing but even on nightmare they're just flashier headcrabs with a neat gimmick. Just backstep out of their way. Once you get the goo gun they become a total joke on any difficulty.

The movement system is definitely not among the ones with the most amazing visual feedback, but I'm in love with it in therms of controls: peachy, ultra-tight and 'physically-correct', just like the first Dishonored.

my hard graphic balls
I fucking despise the black crush, dramatic gamma/contrast decrease that happens when there's enemies. Arkane wanted to make it more scary but the enemies don't scare me, it's just frustrating, I can't see shit.

Hmm. Killed the enemies in
Cargo Bay B
, but the objective won't get checked. Uh.. I guess I'll just carry on, then? It's marked as a main mission, so hopefully this won't come back and bite me in the ass later.

Has anyone found a use for the slide?

Once you get stealth run it's very nifty for ducking in and out of corners quickly, and rolling under desks and stuff while popping nerf rounds or typhoon bait elsewhere if you get in a jam.

Is there any skill that increases movement speed? I feel I should be able to side step some of these energy attacks.

Yeah, I think it's security > conditioning > so on and so forth. Goes up to 150% or more, I think?

I assume you aren't playing on a PlayStation

The controls are a muddy laggy mess on the PS4. It really sucks.

Used Steam Link and PS4 controller - 90FPS on my tv with super snappy responsive controls. Magic.

DS4 still fucks my thumb up so will play on PC

I'm like 1 hour in and loving it.

Especially the freedom/non linearity. Much more freedom than Bioshock or Dishonored, more like System Shock 2.

Cool, moved on to the next zone and came back and the humans were all dead for some reason. Looks like maybe one of the enemies fell through the environment or something. Fucking great. Of course all of my saves are from the past 15 minutes too.

just pocked this up, couldnt wait any longer. Is there any general consensus on what early skills may or may not be worth it? i picked up the conditioning for my first one but ive heard that hacking is kinda useless since the game offers different ways to bypass areas.

I think it's really good too. I really don't understand how can people say that Deus Ex: HR had better gameplay.

Its all in your mind mate, nothing wrong with them. A few pages back people were saying how much worse it was on Ps4 than XB1 then an article was released showing they are practically identical.

For those who played Dishonored 2, would you say you're enjoying more this one or D2, and why? I loved D2 and I'm sure I'll grab this one once I'm done with Persona 5, but I'm curious to know about about the differences between the two titles and which one people are enjoying more

D2 was my GOTY last year and I'm enjoying this a whole bunch. I'm about 10 hours in and felt like I've not really got to the meat because I'm just exploring and stuff.

Holy crap, in the shuttle bay there is this big flying thing and he seems to be partly black and green and when I fire at him his health bar actually gets a green part. How can I actually hurt it? Or is this fucker basically just too powerful right now?

dishonored 2 has much better level design, more interesting abilities, combat and enemies.
much more variety in general, can be played both as an action and a stealth game, while prey is not really playable as a pure stealth game and lives mostly of a perfectly crafted space station and a mysterious narrative that keeps you going. combat and enemies are mediocre at best and often annoying.

Ok... ivestigating this glitch to see if I can go back a save and change the outcome. Seems like its def a game ending glitch as you can progress anymore.

I just want to post a few early Neuromod upgrades that I've found helpful:

Leverage I (throw those canisters!)
Hacking I
Materials Expert (the earlier you select this, the more you benefit)
Repair I (because it leads to...)
Suit Modification I (blessed inventory!)

the green health bar comes from the weapon you use, the q beam, it acts like that with every enemy. if the green bar is full the enemy will explode.

as for big enemies in general, I thought that psychoshock is the game changer, not only deals it quite some damage, it prevents enemies from using their special abilities. I honestly don't know how to deal with them without psychoshock. I wonder how you are supposed to deal with them with no abilities or no alien abilities if you choose to play that way.

Psychoshock? That doesn't ring a bell to me. I haven't got that part yet. :)

Rented this game from redbox on PS4 because i wanted more than what the demo offered before I get the PC version. I just got a few questions before I get the PC version.

1. Can I adjust the FOV on PC???
FOV on PS4 is kinda giving me a slight migrain/headache

2. Does this game have controller support on PC???
I game from a couch so keyboard gaming is not an option.

I'm only playing on Normal and I'm pretty sure I'm outright terrible, but the game does an amazing job of quickly putting me in my place any time I'm getting cocky about my alien skills.

I'm doing stuff in the Arboretum and decided to go take on the Main Lift side quest. I spend forever
dying to the Technopath. I finally pick up the neuromod to upgrade weapons and dump everything into my shotgun as it's thusfar been the best weapon ever. I proceed to die a million more times.

I finally work out the best/easiest plan of attack for me is using recycler charges to take out the two corrupted operators, then precharge the stun disruptor and stun lock the technopath as i whittle off chunks of his health. It gets super close on reloads, and if I miss once it's basically death because the energy orb things make the stungun malfunction, but even unupgraded I manage to stun lock him and take him from full health to dead just by stun gunning him over and over.

I am very proud of myself and feel incredibly triumphant for surviving an encounter I couldn't find a way to sneak past. I then immediately
take the elevator to the Lobby where it malfunctions and refuses to leave and I immediately get wrecked by some giant nightmare thing.

Combination of humbled and having no idea how I'm going to deal with that. I'm pretty impressed at how well the game is balancing letting me feel like I'm determining what I do when, and constantly pushing me forward by providing objectives that line up with whatever I'm trying to do so I never feel like I'm wandering aimlessly.

There's no native FOV slider but I believe there console cmds. I'm playing mostly from my couch via PC and it's bliss (I originally got the PS4 version but was bothered by the input lag [which does exist, is well documented and does suck, Thread])
