WSJ: Nintendo making Zelda mobile game, Animal Crossing mobile Fall, new Poke TCG app

My 2 cents : the AC mobile game will launch alongside or really close to the switch game, with a worldwilde release for both. The gap between New Leaf and a new mainline entry is way longer than usual (3-4 years usually, 5 years since New Leaf JP release) and given how Nintendo tries to reduce the gap between jp releases and international releases, I won't be surprised at all.

I hope it wouldn't be some kind of four sword game, but a real zelda game.
Zelda rpg because of the touschreen (Tough and move) would be ok for me.

You are not getting a real full fledged Zelda game on mobile.

They didn't make a full Mario, Tomodachi nor Fire Emblem on mobile, Zelda won't be either.

At best you get Zelda super lite edition , like with fire emblem.

Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks kind of gameplay makes sense.

Yeah; it'd be a good way of preserving the artstyle and gameplay approach, especially the former for Smash Bros, by making it into the 'lite' version of the series. Compared to Breath of the Wild, there'd be no contest.

I suspect it may also prove to be where Nintendo experiment on their balance of a paid game vs gacha. Super Mario Run was downloaded a lot, but failed to convert a lot of people to paying for the full versions (even if it still made a tonne of money versus what it likely cost to make). FE: Heroes is free but made even more money, but as Nintendo stressed, isn't their preferred model.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

It's not going to be a real Zelda game. It will be the same sort of thing as Mario Run and Pokemon Go. Something that gives mobile players a taste of the core experience while still being satisfying in 5-10 minute bursts.

They will probably focus on puzzle solving.

Watch it be a paid game with IAP.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
A.C. in fall? Does that mean A.C. Switch as well?

They were supposed to work together.

Betting it'll be small, screen-sized puzzle rooms that make up dungeons, with the option to buy more dungeons with microtransactions. I can actually imagine it being somewhat alright.

Curious about the TCG app. Would it connect to the PC one? Or will it kinda be like Duel Links and start from the beginning and just add newer sets over time.

I'm really confused by that comment actually because there are already android/ios versions of the PC card game (which is connected to the physical cards as well)

It's actually a pretty decent app as well.

I wonder if they are just gonna rebrand and re-release that one.

That or maybe speeding through the cooldown on items. Being somewhere between the two extremes of mobile moneymaking models certainly makes the most sense given the franchise and where this game would be seated in Nintendo's mobile releases.

An augmented reality Zelda game along the lines of Pokemon Go wouldn't be a bad idea.

Hunting for Treasure chests, Tri-force pieces etc. AR treasure hunting could be pretty popular.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
This lines up with my prediction.

Fall 2017 Animal Crossing
Spring/Summer 2018 Zelda with focus on multiplayer and coop puzzle solving
Fall/Holiday 2018 Mario Kart Mobile
2019 we get Mario Kart 9/Nintendo Kart with the release of a new Switch

Dont expect Smash anytime soon.
It would be news if it didn't already exist :p

I mean a good one...designed for mobile and not just a 1:1 adaptation of the card game.

Yeah i read later that they have that already. I'm dumb lol. Im going to guess it will be a rebrand then? Seems rather easy but it may just be something else.

Plus I think BotW gives it a better template for that kind of game than it had before, with the weapon collecting system, widely distributed puzzles and the main character walking around with an iPad

That one isn't out in Japan so it is logical to me that this will be it

Square Enix tax x its sales report means that Nintendo can have a $20 price tag for Zelda
It'll sell if it's good too

Make it in the style of a link between worlds or a sequel and people will eat it up.

Link to the past hype x nostalgia is still huge

I'm not into or think it will be that kind of game;does Nintendo even have the capability and knowhow to pull such a thing off lol?

jon bones

hot hot hanuman-on-man action
AC app hopefully means we'll see the real game this year

also can't wait for a Hearthstone-level Pokemon app

zelda will be trash like fe: heroes & mario run

Its probably gonna be like phantom hourglass.

Phantom Hourglass would probably have been universally praised had it been a $9.99 mobile game (I think it's slightly underrated as it is), so a game with its controls but a new story (BotW prequel?!) could be great. But I'm expecting something way less ambitious.

Yeah I actually have to download the apk because it's not out here in Japan.

I would be fine if it's just a rebranding with a better UI and story mode.

I just hope they don't mess with very much else as I personally think the business model in PTCGO is waaaaay better than Hearthstone and other card game apps. Then again it's so generous I could see them changing it just to maximize profits.

Already exists in the west :) you even get free boosters for it when you buy irl boosters

I was thinking more along the lines of the game boy version with online multiplayer if need be

And

You can buy booster packs with real money or in game money

Ive never actually played the GB game but the rest of your post is already there. And in general they are incredibly generous with in-game money and rare cards.

Not sure why so many people are calling it a clusterfuck, etc. but I guess it's just GAF normal hyperbole. Outside of the crappy UI, useless story mode, and lack of compatibility what other issues do people have?

Out of curiosity what would you change? It's the Pokémon TCG and it does that perfectly so I'm unsure what they could do other than a better single player

It's too slow. Beforehand you could turn off animations, but they made it so you had to watch these dumb animations (I think a later patch maybe sped them up, but they are still slow) and games nearly doubled in length. The old controls used to let you just tap cards, so if you wanted to evolve a Pokemon or attach energy you could do so with a speedy tap or double tap, but now you have to physically drag them. They may have changed it since the last time I played, but essentially the game had a cumbersome UI which made everything a chore.

There are some other things I'd like changed, such as the ability to buy cards directly in the game. Yes yes yes, I know. Money is made with the physical TCG and they don't want to cut off that revenue, but I think kids are going to continue buying those physical cards while new people introduced to the game will be willing to pay for digital goods. Even if TPCi made a fraction of what Hearthstone earns, it will be a lot of money. Not to mention, you could only trade cards you got in the game with codes you redeemed from buying physical cards.

Also they need to change the hideous art style to make it look like a Pokemon game and not something from Newgrounds circa 2000.

But the core Pokemon TCG game is a lot of fun. And the current app does have some nice features. The game is very generous with giving out cards, and being able to get preset decks is an excellent way to familiarize people with how to play. Having modes that only allowed set decks also ensured that you wouldn't get completely stomped by a veteran. The reward ladder had some excellent prizes, and overall the game gave you a lot of stuff whether you won or lost. I would like to see these things return in the new TCG app, but the biggest thing I want is a faster and more readable UI.

Well the app does have some micro transactions so they just need to fiddle that a bit but other than that all they need is a bit more polish. TCGO isn't the hot mess people make it out to be

You have a 3DS and a Switch but not a phone?

...

I assume you're posting on a computer then, at least you can download an Android emulator and play that way. But seriously, that's some strange financial prioritization.

Maybe he probably has one of those old flip phones or just doesn't want to get a smartphone . My current supervisor has an Alienware computer to run density functional theory calculations and uses a flip phone. My old supervisor has an iPad and refuses to get a smartphone.
