TEKKEN 7 releases June 2nd (PC/XB1/PS4, Season Pass, Eliza, more details)

They've been good competitively, but the art/aesthetics and "story"/continuity have have fallen if you care for those sorts of things.

But 7 looks like a resurgence for what they're billing as the final chapter of the Mishima saga. As a series long fan (outside of the competitive scene I should point out), I'm hyped.

Yeah I really enjoyed the "look" of 2 and 3. Have really fond memories of 3 especially. Like I associate the PS1 with that game and a few others mostly.

PS4 version has a couple of Tekken 2 and 3 outfits, heh. I assume they'll make it to other platforms eventually too.

They took a big sidestep with 4 which changed up the look, feel, and play of the game big time and wasn't quite as popular so 5 sort of went back to its roots, retconned many characters and then they never updated the art since. Not until an update to Tekken 7 in the arcades which we'll be getting on console.

That's because Asuka is better than Jun....tbh. gameplay and contribution to story wise. *runs and hides*

I prefer Asuka's more aggressive style by miles but she contributes nothing storyline wise other than being anime comedy relief with Lili.

But the same can be said for anyone not a mishima though really lol.

I was thinking of getting a stick too but no idea on what's a good one to buy.

story and tekken make no sense.

Jun for some reason gets drawn to kazuya like a cat in heat even though she joins the tournament to stop him, has his kid, he bails, supposedly gets killed by ogre, but now is said to be missing. Lord.

The way it's presented is done in a "divine intervention" way which more than likely connects to Jun's "Kazama higher powers" or Kazuya's "Angel powers", something like that. I get a feeling we'll find out in 7. I personally believe that Jun ended up turning into some type of Angel-like figure since the Kazama genes are something else and those powers forced her to do what she did.

Hey tekken gaf how do I apply my knowledge of 2d games to tekken? Are there any good guides or websites about intermediate level stuff? Should I just learn to Korean wavedash?

There are numerous guides online for doing specific things that you can google and such. But learning how to strategize in Tekken is way more important on the road to getting better. You need to establish the reason for why you're doing certain things.

This video by Aris is the best introduction to that aspect. I think I linked it earlier in this thread but it's worth repeating. Always start small, and then work your way up gradually. And I personally recommend not to overwhelm yourself by solely practicing against people with 1000's of hours of legacy experience/knowledge over you. Try your best to learn against people of similar skill levels.

Is the chromatic aberration actually in-game? I thought that's just what they did on screenshots.

It's there in game. More apparent on some stages than in others. It tends to be less noticeable in motion, but I still don't like what it does to the picture.

I've always been more comfortable with a keyboard than a stick with fighting games, I'm sure I would love the hitbox.

If you're a keyboard player then definitely check one out.

I have a PS4 Hitbox that I'm looking to sell to someone if you want to go that route. I have a couple custom all-button sticks coming to replace this one. PM me if you want to talk about it.

i have a thread specifically for tekken's story. as nonsensical as the story is, some of give a shit about the characters. tekken 7 might end in a big way for a lot of them, especially the main characters

If you've ever been a PC gamer and used WASD to move characters around in other games, then learning hitbox is actually pretty easy. I got acclimated to it very very fast.

Aye. The biggest problem console gamers tend to face is that their non-dominant hand ring finger takes a lot more work to build.

With the Akuma crossover being canon is there any chance this Eliza is the same one from the Street Fighter universe?

Like Akuma, she has meter too.

If I dare step into anime analogies, the best description for Eliza's storyline is:

Lili's Father = Integra Hellsing
Eliza = Alucard

A vampire locked in the estate of a rich European family & owned by them.

So because Tekken's Eliza has meter bar like Akuma, and just so happens to share her name with Street Fighter's Eliza, that's enough evidence to conclude that they're possibly the same character?

I haven't laughed this hard in a while.

Huh, apparently you can get this "command book" with the game in Korea:

So many different version and extras. Seemed much simpler with Tag 2 and the We Are Tekken edition, in Europe at least..

Can't remember if gaf made this a thing during TTT2, but is there gonna be a thread where can drop our PSN/XBL id's for online matches?

i don't like the lili asuka rivarly. I don't like how paul and law are now just comic relief characters. I don't like how they scrapped Julia's involvement with the devil gene in tekken 4. I don't like how they made xiaoyu a love puppy yearning for jin's love. I don't get how Lars who looks like a naruto character and alisa became random main characters for tekken 6. But luckily I love the gameplay. Hopefully Tekken 7 does fix a lot of the story.

The logotype for Tekken 7 is really awful. I wish they'd get away from using fonts that look like a Tapout shirt.

cosigned for all of this. I also wish they'd do something more substantial with the Anna and Nina storyline beyond "sibling rivalry". They've never felt fleshed-out, even by the thin standards of Tekken characters.

That's exactly how I feel about this series today

i agree with all of this. lars is such a dumb addition to the mishima bloodline and i don't like how he and alisa were pushed so far as main characters; i didn't like alisa in blood vengeance either, if there's gonna be a tekken movie it should focus on classic characters.

the only thing maybe i disagree on is the xiao thing, yeah i don't like how they're being comic about her crush on Jin I wish they'd be more serious about it and sounds like it could be this time around.

i should bump that thread since the game is coming so soon

There's a lot of weird decisions made in Tekken's story, but I think Lars is amazing. I'm glad he's taken a central role and I hope he continues to be a main protagonist going forward.

Thinking about picking this up, despite sucking at fighting games / Tekken. I kind of want the PC version because of performance and price, but I get the sense that the PS4 version is the way to go if I want to try my hand at fighting against people online. I only have an OG PS4 though, so that's making me extra wary of picking up the PS4 version.

Seriously, I can't find this thing up for preorder anywhere in EU. It's supposed to be out in two weeks :/

If you "suck" at fighting games you shouldn't worry about competition at all on pc.

If you're a professional or just a veteran player who goes to tournaments you may have to play on PS4.

But if you're a normal player the pc and Xbox version will still have plenty of players.

Don't worry about it.

Yeah. I feel like Lars is the best protagonist in the series so far. It feels refreshing to have an actual hero in the series instead of angry angry dudes.

What is this, Street Fighter? I need angry dudes throwing their next of kin and their next of kin's kin in volcanoes.

And then those kin need to climb out of the volcanoes and throw another kin in.

EDIT: At this point, the volcano should just be a playable character.

Just make a VR and Motion Control mini game where you're Heihachi throwing the cast into a volcano. Or the cut characters at the very least.
