Shit hit me like a ton of bricks once I woke up and checked my phone, fuck.

Time to spin Down on the Upside 24/7 once again I guess.

I'm listening to Shadow on the Sun...and just ugh. Fuck music for making me love these guys and the grasp they have on my emotions.

I mean come on: "I can tell you why people die alone, I can tell you I'm a shadow on the sun." That's just fuel for my tear ducts.

I feel you, homie. That's a great pick and I remember it vividly, particularly when it was used in the movie Collateral. I've always liked his softer stuff, in particular Doesn't Remind Me.

"With a graveyard tan, carrying a cross
'cause it doesn't remind me of anything"

And some of my favorite guitar in the history of rock is in Rusty Cage. I seen him at Projekt Revolution in like 2008 and he put on a great show. I remember it like it was yesterday.

RIP, Chris. Be at peace.

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Welp, I'm in tears...hearing this just broke me down into a weeping man:

The seven moons, and the seven suns.
Heaven waits, for those who run down your winter, and underneath your waves,
Where you watch and wait, and pray for the day.

I am going to miss him so much.

Chris had one of the best voices in rock. Fuck this news sucks. RIP Spoonman :(

Time to start listening to Soundgarden/Audioslave.

I don't know why I never noticed how depressing Audioslave's first album was. It's all about death. Everything. Death. Depression. Trying to find the light. I do not recall Cornell ever publicly having depression issues that severe.

There are deaths like Scott Weiland that I saw coming miles away. It was saddening, but not shocking. But this? This is a bag of bricks.

Edit: Of course I'm aware of the alcohol and drugs during Soundgarden days. But it turns out he suffered from depression as a teen to the point of being a recluse.

I think because in public he came across as immensely likeable, articulate, surprisingly funny, and positive person. He was a responsible for a lot of good int eh world in my eyes.

When you read his lyrics it is clear that he had inner demons. As you say there was no public signs of him having depression, particularly post 90's where he got his shit together- whereas sadly the likes of Kurt, Layne, and Winehouse left unfolding dramas behind them. Perhaps if there is one beacon of light in this it shows that rock n roll depression isn't all 'pantomime' and part of the parcel that the media love to speculate on, and many people who suffer in silence can get help.

Not like this.... fuck no please. Fuck this world. Thanks for everything Chris. Sorry it came to this. Wish the love of your family and friends and fans could have pulled you back. Damn....

I'm sorry for the world's loss today, Chris. All I can tell you, wherever you are, is that you'll never stop inspiring us.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I've read that he'd just stay in his room all day listening to The Beatles.

I'd also read about his drug and alcohol problems but last I'd heard he was clean. These days I hadn't even considered him being depressed. It seemed like he was in a good place with Soundgarden, and his family. I feel awful for his wife and kids.

Never listened to Soundgarden or Audioslave that much, but he made the best damn Bond theme ever and that's worth something in my book.

RIP

Holy shit, that's sad. RIP Chris Cornell.

Not the biggest fan of Soundgarden or Audioslave, but You Know My Name was probably one of my favourite Bond songs, and his vocals are one of the reasons I love it so much. He puts a passion into them like Shirley Bassey in Goldfinger as he yells out that last line and when he sings so loud there's feedback on the mic at the start of the first chorus. It sent shivers down my spine when I first heard it, and it was truly unforgettable.

Sigh, I was hoping it wasn't true. Like with Robin Williams, all I see is their wealth and success and family, and just don't understand what drove them to it. But I guess that isn't for me to understand.

What a horrible thing to hear after waking up. RIp Chris. Geez theres really not a lot of grunge lead singers left. Time to wrap Mark Arm and Eddie Vedder in cotton wool.

I'm sorry, but fuck this line of thinking, it's absolute bullshit.

Jesus fucking Christ. This absolutely sucks.

Chris Cornell was my favorite vocalist. Soundgarden and Audioslave really kicked off my love of rock and grunge when I was younger. His songs with both bands and his solo works helped me a lot when I was younger get by.

Bagels and I were just talking about plans to see Soundgarden not too long ago. What a garbage fucking way to start the day. Well wishes to his family. Cannot even attempt to know the grief they're experiencing right now.

RIP.

His wife says he wasn't suicidal, maybe it was accidental hanging.

Suicidal people often hide how they feel as not to upset loved ones.

These lyrics got to me earlier, especially the chorus

Cochise
Audioslave
Lyrics

Well, I've been watching
While you've been coughing
I've been drinking life
While you've been nauseous
And so I drink to health
While you kill yourself
And I've got just one thing
That I can offer
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me, yeah
I'm not a martyr
I'm not a prophet
And I won't preach to you
But here's a caution
You better understand
That I won't hold your hand
But if it helps you mend
Then I won't stop it
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me, yeah
Drown, if you want
And I'll see you at the bottom
Where you crawl
On my skin
And put the blame on me
So you don't feel a thing
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me, yeah

I feel so powerless when these people - that I never met but through their creations have been my friends and companions when I'm at my lowest, helping me fight my demons - succumb to demons of their own.

Argh.

Exactly how I feel right now. You described it better than I ever could.

Listened to his album Euphoria Mourning earlier and the opening lyric of Follow My Way got me:

Little one don't be a fool
I'm a wreck when I look mighty
In euphoria I'm bruised...

I feel like I always saw it in his eyes, his demeanor and the way that he spoke. That he was dealing with something alone.
