Destiny 2 Reveal Livestream [Over]

dude bro story is exactly that what is revealed in the reveal trailer and not the magic that Destiny 1 had when it launched (many people actually loved vanilla destiny)
I remember countless streams just sitting in the start menu and listening to the soundtrack until the servers went online.

That´s the "magic" and yes vagueness/subtlety that a Dude Bro Story cannot capture as it is plagued with one-liners, straight to face action like e.g. Gears (which is fun but not the journey that Destiny 1 promised)

So a cutscene with characters is "dude bro"? As someone who liked the vague, almost Dark Souls style of Vanilla Destiny, the cutscenes themselves were almost entirely pointless. You could remove them and people probably wouldn't notice. Theres nothing wrong with infusing the personality/flavor of the Grimoire or pre/post activity dialogue into actual cutscenes...

Was the Zavala trailer quippy? (No.)
Was the opening mission quippy? (No.)
Was anyone other than Cayde quippy? (No.)

You're overreacting.

I'll stick my 10p in.

Couldn't give a toss about 30fps vs 60fps. Couldn't care less about dedicated servers. It's minutiae. Just a bullet point to shoot a popular franchise down IMO.

In my eyes Destiny is amazing. I've been playing games since the early 80's and i'm Very Jaded on a lot of things, i'll fully admit that.
But Destiny is the best game i've ever played. nearly 1000 hours. I've played it on PS3, PS4 and Xbone.

There is just something about it. Shooting stuff is so much fun and just feels right.

I'm not daft, I know it started out as something less than we expected. But in my eyes they took those expectations and made something unique and special.

I've met so many people through this game. And I've had some of the best experiences I'll ever have gaming. The talk about that in the reveal really resonated with me, And where i work, our Clan has from the lowest level to the top! CSR to Director level (Major UK insurer)

The community is amazing, and some of the things they have accomplished are just mind boggling - and i'm sure Bungie never envisioned.

So i was Salivating at the thought of more destiny, aimed at this gen and PC. Gone are the limitations of the Almost HD gen.

And in my eyes it totally delivered. Taking the core of Destiny and making it better, giving us more. Taking what they have learnt creating this game and moving it forward. i genuinely can't wait to be wearing Gary's ass as a hat.

So you can try and shoot it down all you want. I'll be there having fun whilst the trolls debate on the internet, like they always do.

The frames per second don't define a game. What you do with it does.
Same for me. Can't wait to play with my clan again, met so many through destiny and through destinygaf

I think once you guys play the new D2 worlds you'll have a change of opinion in regards to wanting Bungie to shoehorn old content just for the sake of it.
I doubt it.

The Diablo/Warframe model is just so much more satisfying in the long term. There's always reason to re-run existing areas, they're dynamic, and every expansion just adds to the size of the world and gear arsenal overall. That helps reduce the feeling of grind too because of the dynamic nature of the missions, and that you aren't being relegated to the same handful of strikes or missions to play over and over and over again until the next DLC drops.

Destiny is using an old school MMO model where you spend a gargantuan amount of time making these environments, and then gate them to a range of levels (1-10, 10-20 etc), and make them mostly irrelevant afterwards, except for maybe one story mission daily that you can run on a harder level. Its wasteful of all that work and archaic ta boot.

D2 with auto-scaling or some kind of torment level system would keep the entirety of Bungie's created environments relevant and worthwhile, with every DLC just adding more rather than forcing obsolescence and resets.

+1

Some sense can be made out of some people wanting to keep exist loot. I don't know why anyone would cling to the structure of Vanilla Destiny zones and progression. There were countless articles about how that game didnt reflect Bungie's ideal vision. Hell, Bungie was dumping that style of play before D2 was even announced. Nobody should have been entertaining the idea that D1 content structure would be the foundation going forward.

am I the only who noticed a titan bubble thing in (i believe) the gameplay trailer? Not the mission run through, but the trailer they showed after? I'll have to look through again, but I swore I saw one, and not the new barrier thing that titans have now. It looked like the ward of dawn, but it looked like arc or something instead of void. Maybe I was seeing things.

EDIT: It wasn't the gameplay trailer. I swear I saw something like that though. Did anyone else?

Zavala puts up a Ward of Dawn in the Homecoming gameplay footage, maybe that?

warlocks have something that looks like an electric titan bubble. the only actual titan bubble being shown is zavala in the cinematic.

No, it wasn't that. I'm going to re watch the event soon, maybe I can find it.

It was a player character, and it was a titan. He threw up a bubble and it was kinda silver looking. Again not the barrier, but a bubble.

Maybe I'm going crazy or something, but I swear I saw it.

this is the zavala part:

The other thing (as already mentioned) is the warlock class skill; a damage / health buff.

Are they still gonna use the grimoire cards to tell the story?
That was pretty lame and such a disservice to the lore.

There is a 'Lore' screen, but that hasnt been shown yet.

Kotaku has some impressions up:

Jason: Do you think it was a mistake that they just showed a lot that was similar to Destiny 1 as opposed to the open-world newer stuff?

Kirk: I don't know if it was a mistake. I think they will show that stuff. I think by showing it this way they put more of the onus on that stuff to be really good when they do show it. I'm assuming it just isn't ready and would be way harder to demo. When you make a demo for an event like this, this must have taken developers at Bungie, coordinating with people at Activision, this must have just taken months and months to put together that they could've spent making Destiny 2.

Doing that for an open-ended area with exploration would be, I would imagine, not even doable. I think it just wouldn't have been possible. At some point I think that stuff will be explorable, hopefully in the beta. I think it's going to need to be good, after having played the stuff that feels like ‘OK, this is a Destiny strike, a Destiny story mission.'

Jason: So the European Dead Zone I'd heard was one of the first things they built for Destiny 1, and then they wound up cutting it at some point when they were changing scope, because Destiny 1 changed scope many many times. And they eventually moved it to D2. So the way it was described to me is, it's this big complicated map and it's got caves and dungeons and you can explore it in depth. Someone said to me a couple years ago, ‘I can't believe they still haven't shipped it—it's friggin' awesome.'

So if you are kind of disappointed at the idea that the strike and the feel of the game is just more Destiny, Destiny 1.5 or whatever, I think the new areas could be the way that it really shines and feels like a different game. But I do think what we've seen so far is Destiny 1.5.

I really liked the moon because of the creepy atmosphere and music, but yea I never want to go to the Cosmodrome again.

I don't care about 30 vs 60 either, but I'm not sure how anyone that has played crucible in the first game can be fine with P2P servers again, did people already forget what a lag fest it was more often than not...?

That could just mean show the lore of the different weapons and items equipped rather than a grimoire lore screen. If they were to have all the lore in the game you think they would put it in a tab like - inventory, settings, loadout, clans, >grimoire<, etc.

They literally said during the keynote that the lore would be in-game.

Is Nolan North there again? Please say no ;(.

I really miss Dinklebot.

I can't take Nolan's high pitched voice as a ghost.

I hate that voice acting so so so much. Plus the dialogue itself is just terrible. And then there's the annoying sound effects that play before and after he talks. I haaaaate it. Makes replaying strikes in Destiny significantly less fun for me. I know that sounds stupid, but he's that annoying.

I would pay a reasonable but large sum of money for individualized DLC ghost voices.

Maybe time for a female voice acted bot. We don't get to keep our gear and so on cause of reasons, why should we keep Nolan bot? :p
I'm not a fan too of is attempt at humor.

I agree. Warframe is the perfect example how destiny should have been.. And diablo torment difficulty is ace to make things worthwhile

As bad as Dinklebot was, it was infinitely better than the dross that Nolan North came up with. His VA in Destiny is just cringe inducing. I dislike the guy's voice. I'd be down for a female ghost too as Bold One suggested.

Honestly you sound like the type of player that prefers being over powered compared to the content rather than the type that likes to overcome challenges. And if that's your thing, ok. That's not what Bungie wants Destiny to be though. So again we come back to the distinct impression that you really really want Destiny to be something different from Bungie's vision. Which suggests that perhaps Destiny just isn't for you.?

lol people really should drop this line of argumentation. its not like there's a memo or mandate of what bungie wants destiny to be like, not in this context at least. so the whole "what you want isn't bungie's vision" is such an ugly angle.

Datto's first impressions YouTube video really relieved some of my worries. He seemed to really enjoy it.

eh, i never really seen datto be hard/criticize destiny like that. he has an emotional and "professional" attachment to it, hell, his handle is "dattosdestiny". I mean, if your opinion is often in line with his i can see why you'd be relieved, but i wouldn't put much weight to it overall.

Datto has consistently criticised Destiny throughout the years so I can see why he'd put stock into his opinions. He's normally the most level-headed Destiny YouTuber out there.

Besides, he didn't really say anything crazy when he said it's a fun game.

Saw a tab called "records" in one of the screens, maybe it's where they keep that kind of stuff.

So, could someone clarify something for me? Watching multiplayer matches in Destiny 2, I noticed that you can only respawn if your teammate revives you. Is this a new mechanic across the board (all MP modes) or is it just related to one particular mode (not sure what it's called)? Also, it seems that the match ends if your entire team is dead?

I suspect it is just for this mode, but this is likely going to be across a *few* modes, like Trials of the Nine, etc. If you've played any Elimination in the Crucible, it's a solution for the "forever chain rez" problem.

There will almost certainly be a Rumble, and Team Deathmatch mode where there are no tickets, and you can respawn as much as you need until a timer runs out.

I've never actually watched his channel before to be honest. If he never confronted faults of Destiny, then our opinions are most certainly not aligned. I'm one of the few that refused to buy TTK and later DLC's due to anemic launch and moving season pass content to later paid DLC's. I mean I literally deprived myself of the best part of Destiny to vote with my wallet.

My worries were essentially the same with this game. It seems that its much larger than the first Destiny at launch and the new game engine allows them to build and add content at a much faster pace hopefully eliminating season pass delays. My major concerns seem to have been addressed.

Extremely detailed breakdown of what we have seen so far.

Edit: so basically each planet has their own player hub / city location

Edit: "guided games" : solo players can tag along with clan groups on raids / nightfalls. Interesting!

Edit: nightfall passes, required to enter nightfall?

So all of the P v P modes are 4 v 4 now?

Seems like a strange number. 6 v 6 at least meant two teams of three players could join up on either side.

It's really weird, especially when it lacks this obvious synergy.

I really hope these modes are sculpted perfectly for 4v4 format, but I still feel they could have used some larger player number pvp modes too.

Right now it's very hard to see how they're going to justify the downsize.

I get voting with your wallet against locking people out of content they previously had, but voting against a dev completely overhauling their game because it launched in lacking state? Surly that's counter-intuitive?

Especially when this was Bungie's first attempt at this style. They made a lot of mistakes with the launch, but they really made a huge effort to fix them with TTK.

When people are saying that they want the core design elements of the game to be completely different, it's safe to say that this just isn't a game for them.

It would be like someone suggesting TLoU gets rid of the survival, avoidance, and puzzle elements of the game and instead become a straight up 3rd person shooter with waves of Infected charging you all the time. There's nothing wrong with that type of game but it's not the core design that the Dev is striving to achieve. At a certain point, you as a consumer have to realize that it's unreasonable to expect a massive overhaul like that and just move on.

It just isn't reasonable to constantly demand that a well liked popular game that people enjoy as is undergo a massive core design change .

Datto has actually been extremely critical of Destiny after the honeymoon phase. And he did it in such a way that turned off a lot of people. This new video comes across like many of his older videos from before and around D1 launch though.
