Preliminary results on AVSFORUMS from the TCL P Series seems to indicate this TV will be dethroned as the mid-range HDR TV.
I'm getting a lot of banding in Gravity Rush 2 and Persona 5 on this TV. Is there anything I can do about that? Ive had it for half a year but I think I'm just noticing it now because there's a lot of large sections of flat colour in these two games.
Everything seems to be matching up correctly in terms of settings (full colour space in game and full colour space on tv, etc)
So bizarre, but for now, everything seems to be working. Whew!
I've used a lot of different Android devices and haven't seen an interface this slow. Still, everything else on the TV is great, I'm glad I bought it.
Android is a POS. I'm never buying anything with Android ever again.
Believe me, other OS are not necessarily better. Tizen on the KS8000 is ten times buggier than this. This is just slow, but that is because Android TV is not optimized for TV. This new update fixed a lot of what made the OS poor prior. Popup displays, smaller boxes, but there is still too much going on, and it seems like the os isn't properly developed for each model. They released it for like 6 models at once. Hopefully they can smooth some of this out.
WebOS is better. But this is easily better than Samsung OS. The only thing Samsung OS has over this is flashy UI. But it is a buggy piece of crap barely supported. Android TV has more utility. This is honestly on Sony. They need to fix this update and tweak it to be faster, less memory leaking, maybe get rid of some of the bloatware that runs. I have disabled a lot of crap, turned permissions and notifications and things off.
Hey man! Yeah, I did a standard reset and factory reset. Didn't help. Tried reinstalling drivers, DDU, etc. Wasn't helping at all. Then when I'd try to install the latest NVIDIA driver, it'd crash and then Windows wouldn't boot unless in safe mode. LOL What finally worked is after doing DDU, d/l'ing the NVIDIA driver via Windows Update, which was from a couple months ago. After that, everything was back to normal. HDR on my PS4 Pro also seems to be behaving correctly now, even though I didn't change anything. So bizarre, but for now, everything seems to be working. Whew!

I disabled a bunch of apps (why is a car game installed by default and why is it always running in the background?) and all the stupid recommendations (home screen now says "No recommendations available at this time") and now my TV is a lot more responsive.

How do you do it then? Also how do you disable the recommendations - do u know? How do you disable apps?
Oh, I see. I disabled Asphalt Nitro.

Home > Settings > Apps
Home > Settings > Home Screen > Recommendations row and disable everything.
Now I can't see how to get app icons back. I have Netflix installed but once I took off that recommended row, everything is gone.
I truly despise android tv...
Maybe I misunderstood you but nuking the recommendations shouldn't affect the featured apps and app rows.
I force closed Sony shelf hoping it would leave me with only what I have installed and get rid of a bunch of useless icons.
Looks like that was a bad idea as you lose have your icons.
Guess I have to deal with bullshit ads on my tv because google.
How are you having all this trouble lol. Only ad I've ever seen was from Es file explorer and I uninstalled it instantly. My tv is also responsive and quick.I force closed Sony shelf hoping it would leave me with only what I have installed and get rid of a bunch of useless icons.

Oops, just restarting the TV should fix that hopefully.
As for ads, do you have the US model? I have no ads anywhere.

I'm in the same boat, i'm still on my 55W905 and honestly i still love it. But i'm itching to jump into HDR and getting a scorpio or Pro this fall. Gazza, seems like it's been a worthwhile upgrade for you?
Rebooting did bring it back once I re-enabled notifications.
The ads I'm talking about are things like "google play games", "photo sharing plus", "directv ready", "PlayStation video", etc. I didn't install those and I don't want those icons on my screen.
Any way to get rid of them without nuking my installed apps?

rtings says the Smooth Gradation settings can help with banding, they were talking about TV viewing and not gaming, but it's worth trying
Make sure you have smoothness and clearness set to off.
Also know that all VA based panels will have a little bit of color smearing (or banding as you call it). That's why OLED's are godlike. Next to instantaneous pixel response times.
This TV averages about 12ms. Which is pretty damn good for a VA panel.
Only TN, OLED, and CRT TV's have fast enough pixel response times (sub 5ms) to where banding won't be noticeable.
PS: Reponse times does not mean input lag.
No. Like you, I started noticing it sometime back as well with dark areas in Nier. Seems to be normal going by the replies I've gathered on AVS forum. I guess some people are just more sensitive to it than other people are.
Anyone noticing wifi being disconnected or stopping more than before this last update?
Was meaning to post a couple weeks ago about this but didn't get a chance.
Upgrading my Win10 to the creators update messed up my display big time. Issue being that the drivers did weird things with the TV. Also the new updated introduces HDR to the desktop. Why?
So.... this is what happened. After Win10 updated a few times it finally went to a black screen. Thinking it was hanging i left it for the day and coming back to the same black screen i figured Win took a dump. Restarted and came into win that looked all messed up. Not knowing what that was all about, restarted back to a black screen. After a few reinstalls, updating my drivers to the latest ones made my desktop go back to that weird ass colors and on restart it would go to a black screen.
Solution? Uplug the tv and plug it back on the HDMI and it would recognize it.
Getting rid of the HDR and weird display it was doing? Set in my NVidias control panel to
RGB 8bpc Full dynamc range.
I have yet to try a game that uses HDR, but i don't think it will be taking the advantages of the 10bcp or 12bcp that i had set previously. Maybe i'll try to run RE7 and see how it looks.
Anyone else had this issue upon installing windows new update?
I just picked up Mass Effect, and the HDR is completely broken. Can use YcbCR420 at 10BIT For HDR at all. Screen turns greenish. Can only have it at RGB with no HDR for it to even be playable. Shadow Warrior 2 has been broken for me as well.
Has the Twitch app ever freeze the TV for y'all? It's happened twice.
The nougat update for the UK XD80s will be rolling out in waves starting tomorrow, or you can install via USB as of tomorrow.
Been playing with HLG HDR and it actually can make some games look way better. It correctly deals with skies and makes it so you can see through windows while indoors. It even helps bring out some detail lost in bright highlights. I recommend booting up Assassin's Creed Unity to see what I mean.
Just messing around, and I super know that it isn't correct or "right". I just think it's really interesting as it helps paint a picture of what HDR can do for whatever you try it on.
Edit: Seriously. I just tried GTA V and HLG makes the clouds look nice and the stained glass windows of Michael's front door actually visible. Y'all should give it a look.
So be honest people: Do you think this will be the best Bang-For-Buck 43-Inch 4K TV in the UK by the time Scorpio rolls around or should I wait to see what else comes?
The price tag is looking like £630-ish so far and I'm willing to cap out at £650 or £700.
It's currently £599 on Amazon.

Price seems to bounce around, I got mine for £521 in December from Tesco Direct (they no longer stock it though apparently).
