Fates doesn't take place in the same world as the first game. Funnily enough, Shadows of Valentia does.
Before Awakening implies that Hoshido and Nohr are in the same world of Ylisse but separated by a lot of years iirc

Celebration of the series
Reps from 3 out of 15 games in the series
This is a series that has north of 20+ playable characters per entry so better start with the most popular games and characters and then go from there.

Like, I get it. My favorite game in the series pre-Awakening is Radiant Dawn and I was lowkey exited to have playable Micaih and Sothe but it is what it is.

My wallet is already crying thinking of how much the DLC of this game it's going to cost T_T

Despite that, Fates features recurring characters from the Shadow Dragon/New Mystery/Shadows of Valentia/Awakening world. Dunno if that's grounds for making a stronger argument for Fates' inclusion, though.

Naw. Chrom implied that Norh and Hoshido were known in Ylisse but as mystic kingdoms. Didn't say if they were in the same continent

Limiting to just SD/Awakening/Fates is seriously disappointing. I like those games, but characters like Lyn, Ike, etc. are super popular, and it'd be really foolish to leave them out. Doesn't really help the OCs shown here look bland too.

Character from fe 1/3/11/12/13/14 and possibly 2/15 (character from fe1/3 show up in fe2). Marth and co show up in the main story of 4 of the games and are referenced in 3 more if we're counting remakes as separate entries.

No Ike no buy. Also would've liked to see Lyndis/Hector and Sigurd.

Dragon Quest Warriors and Hyrule Warriors didn't ignore 70% of their respective franchises so why is this one trying to?

...ah well I'll just hope they realize this mistake and fix it before release.

Actually, doesn't the base version of HW do just that? It's pretty much all LttP/OoT/TP in terms of major representation across the board. The variety didn't come until the DLC, and then later with the 3DS version.

The base game of HW had representation from every 3D Zelda except for Wind Waker.

The moment FE Warriors was confirmed I wondered what sort of gameplay direction they would take the game, it seems that it's closer to Samurai Warriors which is my preferred Musou type because of the higher emphasis on strategy. I'm actually quite interested in how this pans out.

Let's start talking about which character will get a crazy makeover à la HW crazy hair Ganondorf.

Mecha Draug let's go!

PUT LYN IN THIS DAMN GAME OR SO HELP ME...

And gimme a damn Lyn amiibo already.

Not from Akaenia/Awakening/Fates + being a swordie = best drop your expectations now while you're ahead.

Though given the roster so far being a Swordie might give Lyn a better chance

I'm guessing that characters from other FEs are going to be overpriced DLC. I mean how else I'm suppose to get Lyn on this fukking game :p

Yes, Dragon Quest targets "everyone", unlike most titles in the Japanese market.

A lot of the market is doubling down on the core teenage audience though since the market is in such large decline that it is back to the 1980s in terms of annual sales revenue.

Question, have folks tried appealing to other demo's to try and combat this problem? Or is this more of a societal thing?

This game is totally going to have all the popular/ well know characters from the original Fire Emblem & Awakening whereas people's personal favorites will be DLC (Lyn & Hector will be DLC!)

It's probably too much to expect but I'm really hoping for a decent story from this, even if it just mirrors Shadow Dragon or Awakening, I want the characters to develop and grow on a journey. Make it Fire Emblem with Musou gameplay, make weapons break, have support conversations, rescue towns and find characters to recruit.
Hyrule Warriors was disappointing in that respect, it was a terrible story of a Link fangirl that brings all the Zelda Universe characters together to fight in an all-star Zelda Musou. It lacked any real substance and felt more TriforceHeroes than ALLTP.

I want this to be good! It's my dream Musou mash-up!

The reason all the protagonists from the Fire Emblem games are not being included is because if they did that, everyone would be using a sword.

I call bullshit on that. Some fire emblem lords gain access to new weapons when they promote. Lyn and Alm gain access to bows. Eliwood to lances. Then theres Ephraim who use lances, Hector that use axes. You have Celica and Micaiah that are magic users.

Hell, just for this game, they could make it so that all of the lords from the series can use different types of weapons.

In true, they're focusing on awakening and fates because they're the best selling games in the series.

Well, I'm not into musou so I was probably not getting this anyway but skipping the better casts of the series for the weakest casts doesn't entice either :p.

Well, it's a mix of both, but essentially the short version is that a lot of the "older" (~24+) audience is on mobile.

Games like Yakuza target older men though on consoles, but they're quite rare.

Then of course the games that target overseas and have a niche following in Japan.

Lyn is literally the most popular character in the series.

Hmm, this looks to be a pretty traditional musou game. I was hoping for some innovation in the vein of Dragon Quest Heroes 2.

There is no stinkin way Ike doesnt make it in this game. I imagine he will be like a mythical warrior or merc, heck maybe Ike will be the Lu Bu of this game

Still though hector needs to be here too.

  • The vast majority of characters will be from Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates.
  • There will be more playable characters than any first iteration of a Musou collaboration game, meaning there's at least 14 of them.

This gives me hope for Hinoka.
