Project CARS 2 discussion thread (provisional release date: Septemberish 2017)

You should make an extra Porsche pCARS2 thread, just to troll the other "xyz now has Porsche" racing games. I mean Duh, the license is not exclusive to EA anymore this year, of course all the games will have Porsches now.

Still, Forza and GT Sport had one (and Forza and AC had Porsche threads too when they had Porsches in DLC packs in the years when the license was still with EA).
I'm fully expecting DiRT 4 getting Porsches in a DLC pack too ...with yet another extra thread.

Edit: But really cool trailer. Probably the best Porsche trailer ever.

This thread is already enough of a ghost town without splintering off the shiniest of nuggets.

Is there just not as much of a buzz about this one as there was for the first one?

That's the general impression I get here on GAF. There's definitely more of a buzz on more sim-centric sites, but I'd say SMS still have their work cut out converting all the burnees lost from the first game.

Damn, forgive and forget, people. Keep open minds.

Can't really compare the open approach of PC1 with that of PC2. Going by WMD2 comments, SMS were overwhelmed by the pre-order sales.

Now I can finally comment that driving the Porsche 911 GT3 is one of the finest sim driving experiences I've ever had. It's so, so, so damn good.

So Fanatecs new CSL Elite PS4 wheel, is xbox one compatible if you buy the xbox CSL rim which is now $90. Which puts me in a bind because I was all set to order the Clubsport v2.5 but know I don't know.

The CSL is a plastic base vs the all metal 2.5, but the idea of a quick switch of the rim for PS4/XB1 compatibility may be to good to pass up.

You should definitely wait until GT Sport gets a release date (I'd guess E3), should it be out soon, it will mean that the rumored direct-drive Thrustmaster wheel is around the corner and Fanatec will probably want to react to that with some news about their own direct drive wheel. Even if you're not interested in the direct-drive, it might shake up the whole market price structure.

Well for 1 only reason I was ready to jump was the price drop. The v2.5 and xbox rim was only going to be $590 rather than the $730 it was a few months ago. I'm not going to be in the DD range, and the Thrustmaster wheel if DD looks like it had a good amount of plastic (don't know how that would hold up over time.)
And 2 I just checked and its only available in Europe and Australia, so that's off the table.

SM convinced me, over the course of a number of years, I don't have any reason to expect much from them. One of the worst things I'll say about a game is it doesn't feel worth my time. Project Cars (across various platforms and revisions) felt like a waste of my time, after-the-fact. If PC2 comes out to high praise, I'll enthusiastically buy it at full price. I'm actually looking forward to that sort of surprise, but boy would it be a surprise.

I also won't believe a word out of the mouths of the "mega" fans of the first game, regardless of whether it's positive or negative.

Who are these mega fans of which you speak?

Project CARS thrills and frustrates me in equal measures, but it's still the only game that's given me a structured career with the full race weekend experience. For me, it's highest highs outweigh its lowest lows, but I am in no way blind to its deficiencies. I've heard a lot of first-hand accounts that seem to address all of those problems in PC2 though, so I will be severely disappointed if the game lets itself down badly again on a technical level.

My biggest concern is that Bandai force the game out at the end of September before it's ready, polished and relatively bug-free. I'm expecting a huge day one patch (who doesn't these days?) but also a stable predictable experience.

My personal beef with pCARS is with the car handling and to some point with the FFB.
I actually have a list of physics flaws with car/track combo that I encountered in pCARS1, so I can try if pCARS2 will be different in my first 2 hours to help me decide if I want to call for a refund.

It's nothing I would trust any tester, not even prominent reviewers about, unless it's a really in-depth physics analysis/review, pointing directly to prior problems and showing that it's now correct in pCARS2.

I'm curious.

I agree. Think the 1st game is a large reason why some are so adamantly ignoring it. Often see people immediately bringing up how "terrible" PC1 was even in videos directly addressing a lot of the issues they mention being fixed in PC2.

Even if I felt burned by PC1 to the point of disregarding a sequel at first, I still think all of the news they release for PC2 would have captured my attention. Feels like I wake up to good news every other day. Especially the McLaren and Porsche videos. Those videos really make me feel like they're dedicated to nailing the cars physics.

I'd imagine it'll be a show case for scorpio. Could see it more visually impressive than fm7 even

On the PS4, the first game launched to no competition; it doesn't get any better than that! This one is launching against Gran Turismo, which is probably the tallest order there is: very few games dominate their genre in sales like GT does.

If SMS release a good sim, paying consumers will forgive and forget. All SMS have to do is live up to the promise/hype they create.

Hence my 'open minds' comment. A lot of people seem to have written off pCARS 2 already.

Very true, and we can throw Assetto Corsa into the mix there as well. There's a lot more choice for consumers on PS4 now, and after a rough start GTS actually seems to be shaping up quite nicely. Christ, they are even adding sound to that game now.

Written off?, no, but it certainly isn't the day one must buy that it should be for a sim fan like me.

It's sad but don't think day one is ever a good idea these days. Games seem to take 2-3 months after release to have significant bugs removed and baffling design decisions rectified, even with huge day one patches. I think Project CARS was the last game I bought on release day, and that was over two years ago. I'd have been pissed off buying Assetto Corsa at release (especially on vanilla PS4) as it was a fucking slide-show with more tearing than Geoff Capes in a phone-book factory. It's great now though (on Pro at least).

It feels like we're buying betas on release day half of the time and it can seriously taint our overall experience, even if the game is eventually fixed. First impression last. I think I'd rather wait a while and get the game the devs intended but failed to initially deliver.

Yup, I think you're right.

I honestly think that many people who shit on pCARS every chance they get will buy the game on Steam anyway(no real risks with Steam refunds and MS's new policy) and if the FFB is great and the AI won't screw their first races, they'll keep it. If it's actually great, they'll defend the game infront of their friends and positive word of can make a big difference.

Only problem with that theory is that these people are usually pretty close-minded and might only try the game to be able to shit on it even better... meaning that even if it is good, they won't realize it.

My expectations are quite high based on what I've seen and read, second-hand accounts and SMS's own proud boasts. I really hope I'm not just setting myself up for disappointment.

This thread goes circles full time.

Silence > Something is published > Looks good > Looks good but PC1 > PC1 ran over my dog > Thou shalt forgive and forget! > Silence.

Man, the release can't come soon enough, if only to move on.

Don't say things like that - it'll get burped out 40% finished then have patches every day for the next nine months. Twist: every patch will break something else AND kill your dog.

I got burned buying pcars day one, so I'm not picking this up until I see how it goes. Even then, there's Forza 7 with scorpio and gt sport late this year. Plus I'll likely still be playing dirt 4 and f1 2017. I'll be full for racing games and may skip it entirely.

Pcars 2 really should have released in May/June when there was a little less racing.

Somewhat thread related: I recently enjoyed a lot of Sim racing on my PS4 (pcars and dirt rally). I'm still using the controller though, because I thought I wouldn't really stick to these games. Seems I was wrong.

I'm now looking for an entry point wheel to start driving for real. Was thinking about the thrustmaster t150, which is about 150 bucks where I live ( tax included).

Can I safely buy or should I wait/ choose another wheel? Thanks for your suggestions.

I really didn't care about pcars2 until I read a couple of posts in this thread, now I'm more hyped for it then gt sport.

I dunno. Are release dates really threadworthy? All games have release dates. There seems to be general apathy towards pCARS on GAF so it might be a bit spartan.

If anyone fancies it, go ahead - knock yourselves out.

I'm sure the replies will be enough to knock the poster out!

Seems to be a lot of apathy for certain racing games of late, Dirt 4 is a ghost town on here, and PCars 2 seems to be the same.

Maybe a release date isn't thread worthy, but it would shine a light on it, even if not that many people are interested.

By mistake, at the end of the Porsche article (before it was hastily edited).

It's been confirmed internally, my sources tell me. I do not doubt them.
Why would they be secretive about the release date? That's the most important piece of information to publicise about your entire bloody game, is it not? ;)

Maybe it was a genuine error, or they're just not confident enough to commit to it yet.

Amazing trailer.

Still think that pcars2 may be the most impressive scorpio title. If that version looks like this trailer, perhaps even in a 1080p rather than 4k mode, I'd be sold. Hope we get details at e3 on it, I'd imagine slightly mad could ride some of the excitement scorpio will have there
