I see a lot of post saying they will be disappointed if STARS is not announced, but wait why are you assuming this has to be to STARS? Is that even the real name? It's only because a rumor?

If it isn't actually called Stars, no one will ultimately care in the long run, we just want the damn game to be announced lol

Ashamedly, I never finished Pokemon Sun so looking forward to jumping into Stars on Switch, even if it is a direct sequel. Man, Nintendo going to have my hyperventilating well into next week at this rate. A Pokemon Direct before the main even next week? Jheeeezeee.

No shame in that.

... weren't Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire Remakes announced in an E3 though? And last year Sun/moon was one of the featured games alongside Breath of the Wild.

ORAS absolutely were not announced during E3.

Pokemon Conquest killed it before it started. We got Tokyo Mirage Sessions instead, sorta.

EDIT: Aw, heck. I wasn't even close.

If you consider the Gameboy Color a distinct platform from the original Gameboy, then Gen II fits. Gold and Silver are compatible with the original Gameboy, while Crystal is a Color exclusive.

The Game Boy Color really isn't a distinct platform from the Original Game Boy, though. It follows the same stopgap pattern as the DSi and New 3DS.

Besides Gold and Silver were already primarily Game Boy Color games.

The equivalent situation for Gen VII would be a the third version being New 3DS only after Sun and Moon were merely enhanced by it (which they were).

Wouldn't bother me too much if this ends up being a 3DS game, but at the same time I don't wanna wait another 2-3 years for a mainline Switch game.

ORAS was revealed via a 30 second teaser in May. And Sun and Moon had its own Direct in February.

While Pokemon mainline stuff does pop up at E3, it's usually revealed on its own.

If there's a new Pokemon for Switch, it'll be the second time I've bought a Pokemon since the days of my Game Boy pocket. I'm in.

I'm sure this was touched on already, but from what I've been hearing, this is going to run for eight minutes. As such, it seems fairly possible that we might have at least one or two announcements at best. One that could be a small teaser for one title and the other could be a teaser for a bigger title that will get expanded on next week. Even if they tried to do the rapid fire, it seems like 1 or 2 titles will be covered on, and I doubt they would waste our time on something involving mobile devices.

ITT: People forget Fire Emblem x Pokémon was an idea from Nintendo SPD but The Pokémon Company were already working on Pokémon Conquest at the time.

I only continued reading through the thread after posting, I'm surprised so many people didn't know/remember this. It's pretty funny to read all the posts laughing at the prospect.

It's probably going to be the usual 3-4 minute build up of going thru the history of the mainline games before we see the actual trailer.

Nope, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire were announced in May.

That being said, the correct phrasing would be that The Pokémon Company doesn't reveal mainline Pokémon games at E3, but they are willing to show off gameplay of already-revealed games.

We want a mainline Pokemon game on the Switch, doesn't necessarily have to be called "Stars", but that's what the rumors have been saying it's going to be called, so we just call it that.

Stars better be a straight up follow up to the mess Sun&Moon was and not a rehash with few new mechanics, that shit straight up destroyed my interest in the franchise and I really feel weird about it. Give us less hand holding, more freedom, more variety of Pokémons and forget that Plaza ever existed.

Looking back to the direct on 2.26.16 (When Sun and Moon was first announced), that was kind of what they did there too, didn't they? Don't know if they can do the same kind of build up, but I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

X & Y nearly did that to me, S/M brought me back lol

That said, I obviously would prefer a sequel as well.

Festival plaza can be saved if they literally copy and paste join avenue for me.

I just want move tutors. Lots of move tutors. That or give everything more level-up moves and make things like freeze dry Vulpix less of a pain in the ass to get

Really, really weird that we're getting this so close to whatever directs they have planned during the E3 days. But hey, hopefully it's cool stuff.

What ever happened to that Fire Emblem x Pokemon game mentioned a while back?

For all of the people thinking Epcott is nuts, this was revealed in an interview at some point. It never got very far, and was canned when Pokémon Conquest became a thing.

Regardless, I'd play the hell out of it.

EDIT:

Yamagami (Nintendo Producer) said:
5 years ago, Ms. Ando proposed a plan [for a crossover], saying "You know, I think FE and Pokemon's rules are pretty compatible!" Though I agreed with her, by chance the Pokemon group had already proposed what eventually became Pokemon Conquest at the same time [so we were unable to follow through].

I had never even heard of Pokemon Conquest until this thread and I'm a gigantic Pokemon fan. I feel like some weird Doctor Who timey-wimey thing happened to me and the game just poofed into existence today.

Uh.....I'd put the odds of a B2/W2 scenario at maaaaaaabye 40%.

Would be happy to be wrong, ofc, I would have less hype for a Sun/Moon straight remix, but I'm predicting more of an Ruby/Sapphire --> Emerald type scenario, or maybe, if we're lucky, a D/P --> Plat

DP Remakes exclusive to 3DS would make no sense to me and here is why:
- You can still play the originals on the 3DS
- The 3DS isn't that much more powerful than the DS
- The 3DS is nearing its end of life
- Sun and Moon set up many elements for a sequel, or at the very least a third version; throwing in a remake in gen 7, who only really has time for just another set of games in my opinion, would leave too many things up in the air
- Many people criticized DP (and to a lesser extent Platinum) because of their performance issues and slowness. Considering SM's own performance, they would be plagued in the same way and perhaps even more, resulting in a failed remake (whose general purpose is to take an old game and put it to current standards)
- Obviously patterns can be broken, but so far no console has had more than one remake
- Eurogamer's leak explicitly said Stars is a Switch exclusive, meaning, if true, that going back to 3DS exclusivity afterwards (like some have speculated) is just not going to happen

Of course, I might be wrong, but I wanted to spend a few minutes trying to explain why I don't think DP remakes are happening now. I'd be disappointed if it ended that way.

They were only translated in English and Japanese. Making their audience limited. Also think the target audience wasn't quite right for these titles Although from what I heard is that they really are good games!

As you yourself point out, I wouldn't count on this one at all, especially with how they've bucked tradition in a number of ways in later generations.

No third version or remake in the 5th gen, a sequel instead.

Remakes and a third version are not mutually exclusive, either.

All I want is a Pokemon game on the Switch, whether or not it's Stars.

I don't care if the graphics are the exact same (to be honest, I wish more developers wouldn't be afraid of releasing full length games with 3DS/GameCube/Wii levels on the Switch and other systems), but all I want is the ability to play Pokemon games on the TV and on the Switch's big screen.

To be honest, as a person who's been playing less and less of the games I wanted to play on 3DS, and more games on Switch, I would be rather disappointed if the announcement is a 3DS only one.
