I hope it gets more players, I always liked my time with BB. As long as you're not being a hyperbolic tool, there's plenty to enjoy in the game imo. And yes, I have played Overwatch.

So Randy's argument is that it's not F2P because they're not calling it F2P. Its business model is literally identical to a F2P game and not identical to any other free trial available on consoles. But it's still not F2P?

It's a privately owned company and I'd assume he has either enough control (as a founder and CEO) or enough clout within the company that no one can or is willing to try to remove him.

So, I don't know what their end goal is for this because if they aren't throwing in F2P hooks in the sense of microtransactions or and upgrade path to the full game I'm not sure what is in it for them if they are giving away the entire multiplayer suite.
Like....at this point why wouldn't you just throw in the F2P hooks completely give your existing customers who bought the game some bonuses.

Also this, it makes it seem like it's only for a limited time or a very small portion, making the game just plainly free with an option to purchase the few missing things in the game through the game itself would be a much smarter decision. Of course then Randy would have to contradict himself even more blatantly and they can't let that happen.
There won't be a next time for new Gearbox IP. Battleborn's missteps guarantee they will milk the hell out of Borderlands 3 and related Borderlands content.
Evolve wasn't free on consoles. And on PC nobody cared about it.

Trial is a bad word to get this point across and being free won't change that writing or character design. Hopefully the people that can tolerate that stuff get some enjoyment out of it, though. It'd be interesting to see a slight resurgence for one of the most stand-out bombs of recent history.
Battleborn has been a public laughingstock since its release regardless of platform. No amount of structural changes can do anything to shake being a punch line.

Hopefully this gets some new blood into the game. I think I'll reinstall it soon to check it out.
I'm gonna be optimistic, but yeah, Borderlands 3 needs to be a hit. And I'm afraid of how they'll try to monetize it.
