What's the worst Mario level?

I remember the ferris wheel part in Mario Sunshine being pretty awful. It's like the camera was actively trying to kill you there.

pachinko

pianta throw

any instance of yoshi over water

sand bird

The ferris wheel is not even the worst level in sunshine, that goes for the weird pachinko like game drop

Are we counting only mainline games or are we allowed to go Hotel Mario/Mario is Missing/Mario Teaches Typing ?

Sunshine and the pachinko level, nothing else comes close, the controls themselves simply don't work like they seem they should.

Wing Mario Over the Rainbow
(if only because I was in a pannenkoek2012 binge and that damn course seems to foil the A-button challenge and others at every course. I think it's literally the only course you can't complete capless/cannonless too)

Oh, there was also that part in Mario Sunshine where you had to make Yoshi barf on fish to create platforms.

That shit was awful.

Champions Road from 3D World

Even with powerups galore it took me well over 100 tries to complete this level.

Sunshine has some of the highest highs in the series but several of the lowest lows. Most of the ones mentioned up the thread aren't that bad, but the worst offender for me was always the bottle stage. For a game oriented around water, the handling of underwater movement in SMS is the worst in the series, something that Galaxy went to great lengths to correct with its Koopa shell swimming mechanic.

There was also that Mario Sunshine level where you had to talk to the palm tree people to make them throw you to the next platform, and you had to start the conversation at exactly the right angle or else you'd be thrown into a pit and die.

another one, while not technically a level, in order to access one of the levels in sunshine you had to take Yoshi on multiple slow as hell boat rides to an island, thing is, despite there being a lot of waiting you can't just stop paying attention and wait for the next boat as yoshi will run out of juice and die, then you have to start all over, and if you accidentally misjudge a jump and hit the water, you're also starting over because yoshi can't touch water for some reason. not only that but the level itself is horrible and one of the more frustrating levels in the game and if you get a game over guess what? time for another long boat ride!

Pachinko level is pretty shit.

For something different, I didn't like the level in Mario 64 where you get the wingcap, getting all the red coins there was pretty obnoxious since you have to be pretty precise with your new ability despite using it for the first time.

Worst level not best level.

Oh wait, I thought of another Mario Sunshine one! That hotel level where it's impossible to see anything inside the hotel because the camera is stuck behind a wall the whole time.

Oh wait, no one's mentioned the boat ride in the volcano in Sunshine yet, which is a brand-new, unexplained game mechanic the game hoists on you right at the end, and it's instant death if you touch any walls?

I love Sunshine but also agree on a lot of worst level contenders here, but man, that boat... I just wanted to fight Bowser and finish the game man, that's all I wanted

Gold Leaf Galaxy

It's just a recolored mirror version of Honey Hive Galaxy with very minor changes to the level design itself, so lazy

Bowsers maze/memorization castles in super mario bros/lost levels. Just annoying trial and error that require no actual skill to figure out.

Wow. Came here to shit on Sunshine but seeing all the hate just reminds me how its better levels were Proto-Galaxy levels.

Ghost house it is.

This gets my vote. God that was obnoxious as heck.

As much as I hate Sunshine as a whole, I have to second Champions road. It is impossible.

Its always fair, and you can make it easier by playing with Peach and a friend. I wouldnt say its the best level
and dying probably close to 4000 times before i could get a near clean solo run made me hate the soundtrack.
However it is pretty great level.

This was the point where I gave up on Sunshine. Didn't even complete the game, let alone trying to get all 120 Shines.

I went through a phase of rebuying old game a few years ago, and bough Sunshine on eBay. Dreaded the fairground stage, and the Shine where you have to fight again the camera to get to the top of the stage. Found you could easily cheese it by getting to the top of the roller coaster and then just FLUDDing it over to the Shine on the other building. If only I'd figured that out back in the day.

ALL 3D water levels. shit. all 2D water levels after Super Mario Bros 1. they all fucking suck. yes, even the ones in 3 with the frog suit.

Thanks for bringing up the Yoshi boat ride, Corona Mountain, and Piantas throwing Mario around.

Just about ruined my day.

Stingwray surfing in galaxy. Horrible motion control implementation.
Maybe I'm weird but I found the manta ray surfing to be fun.

i really don't like 7-1 in super mario 3, although now you can use it to glitch to the credits so that's cool

Hate the final level in Galaxy 2. Force me to grind for star bits for over an hour to unlock the same damn level on a daredevil run? Horrible.

Edit: level itself is fine, though.

Those shitty levels in Mario galaxy that are 100% motion controlled, Almost destroyed my enjoyment the game, and while I'm on the topic those levels that require you to use that spring power up.
