So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

Been on the hunt as well - no luck so far. Sad because I also waited thinking it wouldn't be an issue after a few months, so guess that was a mistake.

My understanding of istocknow is that if the store has crappy inventory management, it won't show up correctly on istocknow - it's not the website's fault. But probably the best thing to do is look for new arrivals or places that say their stuff came in recently - because in order for that to trigger something had to be scanned in. If it has multiple days/weeks old, i'd call first and expect that it's probably just due to bad tracking of the inventory.

Almost impossible to find in Hong Kong

Dude in Mong Kok computer center had one and he was raising the price by the second.

Arizona. I had one Target that said available and when I went there weren't any. Three days later IStockNow still says available on that store.

That happened to me, only the electronics department looked in the back of the store for me when I told them there had been an inventory alert, and they ended up finding two.

Set up my iStock alerts. As per the previous posts I double checked and they seem to be updating their inventory accurately and correctly (4 in stock, next day out of stock, etc).

Hopefully I can get one in the next couple weeks. Do you think it would still be worth taking a peek at stores on the weekend anyway?

Is there any point in trying to get one just now in the UK or just wait for however long it will be? Apparently Game had them in stock online last night and this morning but no luck getting one.

Game prefers selling their stock as bundles...

Neon blue-red available in Amazon DE? My German is horrible and all I understand is that they can ship it to my country, and it would take like 2-4 weeks.

Yes, that's what it says.

So is it available then? All you guys from Germany should get it now, haha.

You can preorder it and will get it within 2-4 weeks, so it's not in stock right now.

In Germany, the vast majority of stock is to be found at retail, not online shops. Saturn has it in stock both online and offline right now.

Why is there stock problems in some countries while in others countries such as Australia, you can walk in and buy anytime?

We had some stock problems in Australia for a few weeks, but yeeeaah. The system is just insanely expensive here, and so far distributors have done a piss poor job getting any games on store shelves.

I mean, here's EB Games right now. Compared to the competition, the Switch with its absurd $470 RRP is a really tough sell for the average consumer.

The prices of all systems are comparable to those in Europe though.

If you're in the US and still want one keep diligently checking InStockNow.

It's how most of my GAF friends who didn't get an intial preorder in found one.

You just gotta be diligent. I'd check that shit 3 times a day before I got one. Checked in the morning. Would check around lunch. Then check when I got home in the evening. If something popped on the map I'd immediately call to get stock confirmation.

The map shows in stock but it seems false. I went to few Walmarts in NJ and ended up disappointed. Waste of a trip.

This is an Honest question: Was this something Nintendo could have avoided or at least prepped for better? Knowing the components they had were coming from a Manufacturer who makes that same component for Apple and other big companies?

Is it something they could have maybe made a deal on with other manufacturers or at least coaxed a deal for the so called bidding that's happening with Toshiba NAND flash?

My uninformed guess is that when the other manufacturers are making products with those components, selling them for 2-3 times as much as a Switch, the other companies can probably bid more competitively than Nintendo.

Because Switch is behaving like traditional successful Nintendo console. High demand in Nintendo strongholds like US, Japan and France but not that high demand in weaker markets like smaller European countries (For example Nordics) etc. While some have speculated that Switch is new Wii for Nintendo I don't see it. Wii was sold out absolutely everywhere. Even in traditionally weaker Nintendo markets. Switch isn't.

Nope.

Nintendo doing the best the can with the hand their delt with.

Too many other companies with just as much clout in the tech space need the flash storage.

Which is a damn shame. You gotta wonder what the sales numbers would be at right now if they had the stock to back up the hype.

That being said, a little scarcity (especially when it's not artificial) can go a long way.

1. We're almost four months in. Wii definitely wasn't sold out for four months in non-Nintendo markets. With some tenacity (and no stock trackers) I was able to get a Wii two weeks in.

2. It's a different kind of popular. Wii was popular with people who had no prior interest in games. That made prediction models faulty. Switch is popular with people who are interested in games. Indeed more like traditional Nintendo consoles, only a lot faster. A better comparison is probably Nintendo DS.

Was able to find one left in stock at Shopko of all places. Same place I found my Wii, actually, back in 2006. Considering it's such a lowkey establishment and I rarely ever see anyone else shopping there, I'm not surprised that if it flies underneath a lot of people's radars (mine included until someone recommended I give them a call).

Apple has a ton of cash on hand. They can promise money to suppliers in advance and set the ground rules on delivery and production + get better prices and secure inventory. If said money takes the cash, thru better damn well meet their production goals or they lose the business and possibly penalized for not holding to their end of the bargain.

1. Well can't talk about other markets but here in Finland Wii was still pretty damn hard to find 4 months after the launch. At least many magnitudes harder than Switch that is available in every store that sells videogames.

2. DS sold to same audience as Wii (expanded blue ocean audience). Better comparison to Switch is GBA. Sold really well in US and Japan and decently in other markets.

So they didn't see that when thinking about internal's? Because NANDFLASH is the internal storage right? How can you not go with something else?

Problem is it's not a little scarce.

What is InStockNow? And is it different from iStockNow?

Mediamarkt in the Netherlands has Neon in stock (online delivery and in many local stores). Intertoys also has stock in some local stores - the online shop will say sold out, but you can use the stock checker to find out which stores have them.

Are you kidding me

4 months on with the Wii launch and it was impossible to find a Wii. I don't know what planet you were on.

Local gamestop had 2 Switches when I picked up my copy of Cave Story. May be worth calling for those that are looking.

Where? I went to 2 Gamestops today, one in NJ and one in NYC, both didnt have stock. They just showed me a copy of pre-order offer for Switch.

Still looking for one here. But I talked to someone at a Best Buy in Davenport and they said they'll have stock Sunday.

Yeah Bestbuy in my area is getting stock on Sunday too. I am going to queue up there since 9 AM.

Also istocknow is BS when it comes to Target, Walmart and Gamestop stocks, at least in NJ/NY. Went to all of these today and none of them had stocks even though the site says its in stock.

I wouldn't even do that. Just sign up for the iStockNow notifications from Target. Wait for an overnight notification (I got mine 11 pm), then get up early and get to the store before they open to secure your unit. The overnight notification means that there's no chance of the console being sold out from under you as you head over.
