Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood |OT| Y'all Need to Calm Down

Feel kinda forced to buy the jump potion starting out on a new account as DPS. The wait times for dungeons required for MSQ are really long and makes it difficult to level from scratch. Might just come back to it at a later point.

Use your FC. I've never failed to find someone to queue with me when I try to play DPS, and I plan on abusing GAFs friendliness to level up my RMG soon.

Can you program a macro to use Leylines and then switch icons to the new BLM ability while Leylines is active? I.e. What SE should have done...

I kinda wanted to do that but wasn't sure if I'd be bugging GAF FC since I'm sure most are doing SB stuff lol.

Whatever though, I'm about 10 MSQs away from HW now at least...

Most of what I've seen is just DRKs and WARs grumbling over changes to their rotations for now. I don't believe DRK is boned, just it's a much different place than before.

I've heard people say that a lot of their kit that makes them fun is locked between 60-70, which is kind of a deal breaker for me since I plan on continuing to play lower level dungeons. From my VERY limited time with the post patch game so far, WAR still feels pretty similar to how it used to play at 60 (though I say this as someone who never played any high level instances/raids, so I'm used to incredibly sub optimal rotations).

Still, the lack of fell cleave at lower level dungeons is still kind of a bummer, so I'm curious how lower level Paladin feels.

Never hurts to ask. I'd be down to help as well, though I'm barely ever online lately.

Levelling my SAM at work using remote play on my MacBook like an evil genius.

It feels so wrong but so right.

One of my group's healers is having a blast "rescuing" the rest of us. I'm sure the novelty will die off soon enough, but he's getting so much enjoyment out of it, kinda hard to be mad.

Ha! Had an AST rescued me during Ruby in Shisui. I missed my window to turn myself into an old hag so they yanked me out of the AoE. Loved it. Thanks Peach Desu!

OT WAR rotation seems fine, just something new to adjust to and Inner Release can be pretty satisfying on a boss.

MT WAR though, I feel like I have to ignore the gauge and just do my thing to keep aggro on trash. Otherwise I'll waste all my TP on overpower. I miss being able to use flash as I ran through a mob.

I'll have to use this as an example that it can be used for good.

Seems like the two new oGCD attacks for DRG replace the damage hole left by removing mercy/sweep and power surge. I'm still salty over Phlebotomize...you had no reason to take that away from me Square Enix! I'm getting used to the more simplistic rotation now. It feels weird not having a big string of oGCDs to activate in my opener.

I mean PLD's kit doesn't actually work till 68 when requiescat arrives and your rotation flips. From the looks of it, that's basically the case for every tank but WAR since our skills get locked out till the tail end of 70. WAR's kit streamlines at 66 iirc and flips again at 70... actually I guess it is true for WAR too.

WAR definetly feels more stiff, if you wanna stance dance (at 60 at least).

It dosn't feel as dynamic and engaging, even as someone that didn't stance danced a lot.

What are healers even cross-classing in that they can take rescue? Protect, Swiftcast, Esuna, Lucid Dreaming and Largesse all seem too important drop; I guess there are a few dungeons where there's nothing to Esuna but if I dropped that I'd want to slot Cleric in and still not have room for rescue in dungeons.

8-mans I could just make the other healer take protect to free up space I guess. But then I'd want to swap in Eye for an Eye.

healer role selection is too much

What's the best way to learn to not be bad at this game? I'm sort of new to MMOs and feeling a little overwhelmed with what sort of skill rotations to use and situations to look out for. I'm a WHM still working on breezy base game content right now for what it's worth

Ask for help any time you're confused. Actually caring about your performance is going to automatically make you better than a giant chunk of the player base. And that's not even derogatory towards them--there are just a lot of people that don't care about the performance side of things and just want the theme park experience.

WHM is a fairly straightforward healer class that doesn't have much of a formal rotation, since the healing you're doing will be heavily reliant on the tank you're healing and the content you're doing. Good WHM play will involve getting familiar enough with your toolkit to not overheal much, and ideally you use the free time to DPS and help kill stuff faster. Regen, Tetra, Asylum, Assize as you get them can go a long way towards carrying the basic healing load leaving you free to do other things. You'll get a thing that gives you some flowers occasionally when you cast cure 1 or cure 2, but don't let that bait you into casting them when you don't have to.

One thing that can be kind of confusing for new healers is the way threat works in the game--generally you don't want to put a HoT like Regen or Medica 2 up before a tank does a pull, because the healing from that HoT will start giving you threat immediately and if the tank is pulling a bunch of stuff and misses hitting a few things in the pack, they'll come to eat you.

The biggest WHM specific thing I can think of is once you get Holy, it's not only a great damage spell, it's an amazing mitigation tool in dungeons. Holy will stun things, so you can buy yourself 7 seconds every pull where the tank is taking no damage because you've stun locked everything. That's time you can use to toss out some DoTs or whatever.

General consensus is DRK is kinda boned too? Can anyone elaborate?

I want to say they have the actual best damage @70 for the tanks. All mitigation stuff is mostly equal at this point as well. TBN is still a loss per use but it's pretty minor (e.g., the break even point is around 400 base potency and it sits at 380). My first-hand impressions will wait for after PLD since I chose to do that one second since DRK's 60-70 seems to be most soul crushingly bad of the three.

You can cast protect and then swap it off without losing the buff from what I've read, so you could do that. Dropping Largesse probably isn't a big deal for dungeons as well beyond dropping big HoTs all you can do more.

Ah. I'm too lazy to skill-swap mid dungeon, but that would cover that.

And I originally had cleric in the Largesse slot, but the boosted healing seemed to buy me more GCDs to DPS to an extent that the damage increase was greater than burning Cleric on CD.

Its not too bad leveling DRK...just you get stuck with delirium, which is now a 90 second(?) CD for 3 of the levels and 1-2-3 with dark arts spam inbetween

I played a lot of DRK in HW and it looks kind of gutted on paper. Most complaints I have seen revovle around the order abilities are obtained from 60-70 but we will probably see more detailed discussion as more people start to hit 70.

Protect, Swiftcast, Esuna, Lucid Dreaming and Rescue. I maybe have Rescue because of the novelty, but at the same time Largesse feels like a novelty as well because it is very rare I ever go "I wish my healing was stronger."

I play AST most often for reference.

Hey, what's the fastest way to gain levels at 50/51 pvp or potd? Never done either.
Seeing all these pvp recommendations but is that for when your in your 60s. Will the exp be that nice for me in the 50 range?

I'm lazy too, so I found a macro on reddit that works beautifully

/macrolock
/macroicon Protect
/echo You are now switching to Protect.
/aaction Swiftcast off
/aaction Protect on
/ac Protect <wait.3>
/aaction Protect off
/aaction Swiftcast on
/echo Protect has been disabled. The following skill has been restored:
/recast Swiftcast

works like a dream! not sure if it matters but I have Swiftcast in the 1st role slot.

Susano has some of the easiest mechanics of any primal, yet people still can't move their Levins correctly smh.

I don't really agree that it's the easiest mechanics at all. The mechanics on their own, individually, aren't hard at all. What throws people off is how there are A LOT of mechanics in the fight and it rotates around pretty quickly. That's different from having one or two more complex or challenging sets of mechanics which you can focus on.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
So this might be kind of a dumb/noob question, but what exactly are you supposed to do as a Redmage when you run low on MP? Both Black Mage and Summoner have specific options for regaining mp (umbral ice and atherflow/energy drain) but Red mage doesn't seem to have anything like that.

Yup just 2 caveats with this.

1st is it can't be used during combat since combat locks out changing roles.
2nd is that if you burn swiftcast (or whatever ability you use to swap with and its cooldown hasn't finished ) the macro will fail since all cooldowns must be complete.

You've got a cross-role action that reduces your threat generation and regenerates MP.

They have access to Lucid Dreaming, but besides that I guess you're depending on ethers and bards.

As a DRK, should I keep up Grit and Darkside?
Darkside, yes always.

Grit, depends on what you are doing. If you have a solid amount of enmity built and think the healer will be fine without the mitigation (or you can replace it with a cooldown) then drop it and go nuts with blood weapon. As long as you have enmity, aren't dying, and have enough mana to turn back on grit in an emergency then it should be fine. Just remember to keep an eye on that enmity, dps can catch up fast.

Regardless I usually will do an entire dungeon run in grit if it's my first time, since I never know when ninja adds will pop up after a pull.

Yeah, there is no room for anything else in light party content.

I wouldn't even consider Rescue unless I have a BLM in my party or a fucking greedy melee, to be honest.

A long way to go. I think that is like 20% of the way to HW stuff, you have multiple more Primals to fight.

You're basically 20% in ARR

RIP. Far.

https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/7th_Astral_Era_Quests

Thornmarch Hard is for the quest: You Have Selected Regicide
You've completed 242 quests in the base game and are now working on the pre-HW patch content

For the pre-HW patch content you are 16 out of 102 quests on your way to Heavensward!

Congrats!

Edit: please note that I'm listing your progress from Thornmarch Hard instead of when you get to the new HQ because I don't remember exactly which quest unlocks the new HQ
Oh wow, didn't know there was so much in between.
Most of it was added much later right? One of the reasons I quit at the time was that I felt the main stuff was over and the side stuff didn't interest me at that time thanks to the grind(even in G.A.F I couldn't get a party for the relic weapon).

Maybe it's just my confirmation bias showing, but from what I've gathered, WHM, DRK and SMN seem to have suffered the most from the recent changes.

Now guess what my three main jobs are...

I got AST to 70 on Saturday, I think? and Largesse was super helpful later on when mobs started hitting for a ton. Noct shields are pretty good overall, but the added healing boost definitely let me get more out of my casts which turned in to more gravities, etc.

I should probably try swapping it for Eye for an Eye at some point; it's just looking at the list for DF Rescue is like... eighth choice for me I think?

Oh man, thanks. Time to go into my summoner macros and find the code to dynamically remap buttons so I can just plop stuff straight on bars.

Ragnarok Queue Adventures ch.3

I love how the situation is getting worse and not better after the maintenance. Lobby servers are also dying and kicking me out of the queue, something that didn't happened before. I was quickly enough the first time, to keep my position in the queue, sadly the second time I wasn't there, since I was using the waiting time to do chores.

Result? 2500 queue line.

I'm reaching the conclusion that is better for me to start playing at midnight and sleep like 4 or 5 hours if I want to have a decent SB session (queues are really low that late, so I don't have to constantly fear a 90k)

WHM didn't really suffer in the end, it's just their new skills aren't good additions.

SCH got wrecked harder.

Don't forget you can do a plethora of other activities while waiting in queue so you don't just stand in town while waiting. Fates are quite active now with the duty finder getting hammered, so you can go to any zone appropriate to your level and find people doing them. You can also switch to a crafter/gatherer and knock out some of that while waiting.
Thanks for the tips! Yeah I really should try to do other activities and not just waiting around. I joined some random FC, but not many are active there. Might try another one.

Biggest issue I saw was that the damage from his attacks are pretty high, turning it into a healer hell if people mess up too frequently. Also, if one of the healer sucks, it gets really complicated to clear.

I had two vote abandons on that yesterday trying to clear it lol, and both where due to a healer being terrible and 2 DPS not dodging the puddles correctly. There are few mechanics and you should get the fight pretty quickly (I went in without watching any guide and only got hit during the first few pulls), but messing up is pretty costly for a normal primal.

No doubt, I really don't see much use for Rescue just like leap of faith in WoW, its novel in the beginning and extremely situational. I've been adding Swiftcast, Esuna, Lucid Dreams, Largesse, eye for an eye or sometimes cleric stance to combine with thin air and presence of mind for crazy holy bombs. ( I play whm)

Darkside always. Grit can go off if you're off-tanking, or have enough of an aggro lead to drop it and can survive without the extra defense.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Today I let the title screen run on for the first time and got the Stormblood opening movie complete with credits and all. I didn't notice the staff changes back when I finished 3.5 probably because I skipped the credits immediately to get on with it, since SB was coming out. Lol.

Some... really surprising changes.

- The Assistant Director roles are completely gone

- Minagawa is no longer Lead UI Designer, but is now the Art Director. FFXIV has not had this role since 2.0. Akihiko Yoshida was the art director for 1.0, but he was "lead artist" for 2.0, and subsequently off the team from 3.0 since he left S-E.

- The main scenario writers are now the world lore creator and a HW scenario writer.

This means... Hiroshi Takai, Mitsutoshi Gondai, Kazutoyo Maehiro are all off the game as leads now. For the 3.5 credits, all 3 were listed under "development supervision" instead. The last time FFXIV lost a major lead between expansions was Niinou leaving after 2.0, and he ended up directing Dragon Quest Builders.

Could this be an indication that part of the FFXIV team is now working on another new project?

Reminder: Takai and Maehiro previously worked together on The Last Remnant, which Takai directed and Maehiro was the lead designer.
