25 minutes of Monster Hunter World footage

I can't look at old Monster Hunter footage anymore. It now looks so absolutely outdated it isn't funny anymore.

Just about every time I see more grappling hook shit, crazy taxi guidance bugs, or rolling out of an attack animation where it wasn't available before I think - What the fuck did Capcom do to MonHun?

Why not just add Dinosaurs to Bionic Commando?

I guess it's time to hunt down another copy of MonHun G on the Wii.

I'm conflicted on the idea of no charms. On one hand, it would really limit builds. On the other, fuck farming for charms.

Fuck it, get rid of them. I don't care.

I want them gone, and certain other changes to promote balanced skill usage.

In the newer games you could get way too man good skills on one dumb clown suit.

I though charms were good at MH3, then farming got prominent more and more as new entries came..
With charms gone ppl may have to choose skills more deliberately I guess.

I want to see Kushala affecting the whole map with hurricanes.

This will be INSANE, what a time to be alive.
I never want to see Kushala again. Fuck that tornado-spamming jackass. Nothing like losing over half your health after a tornado sneaks up on you from offscreen.

good for you I guess.

I second the resurrection of the community thread. Been back to playing Mh4u in girlfriends 3ds because I sold my 3DS and my Generations copy was digital, and need people to play with D: not even high rank on it right now.

Thankfully there are still plenty of classic old-school MH games out there for fans to play with. For everyone else, there will be a new World to explore, free from the handheld tech shackles that have driven it in a particular direction.

A brave move on Capcoms part. Could be a great move or a poor one. I personally hope it goes week because MH deserves more people playing such a great series.

However this turns out I hope it doesn't discourage them from experimenting with the various systems and mechanics in place. There is nothing to gain from adhering to the handful that fear change.

It was listed in the Gematsu Article as "New Feature"

It was first brought to my notice by R0ckman, in the last thread -
Some actions =/= attack animations. I didn't see any attack cancels in the video, did you? What if all you can cancel is eating/drinking, wasting a portion of your item? Still doomed?

I don't know how you lived with hunter arts if tracker bugs and a grappling hook are enough to kill this game for you.

Yes, this is true. What we're saying is in MHP3rd there was a bug specifically with auto guard and gunlances that just makes you completely invincible as you attack.

Still not suggesting you use it. It's just interesting trivia.
Yeah, I got you. Definitely interesting, just not really how I want to play lol

I wonder if carts are still shared in the drop-in, drop-out co-op?

If so, what's to stop someone from trolling people by entering their game and carting 3 times on purpose?

Yeah, maybe it's a certain number of carts, that player fails and gets kicked out and they cannot rejoin.

I am hoping they go into detail later on.

Getting kicked out. Same thing in previous games. You could troll there by joining a gathering hall room, but people don't stand for that shit.

What are you talking about?

I didn't say Kill. Cringing a little yes, annoyed maybe (I was urked for a while when they tweaked the Lance poke/parrycombo from Tri to P3/3G).

I simply can't pretend that a lot of the new casual friendly quality of life focus isn't going to have an effect on parts of the game that I did enjoy and found purpose in. I'm glad non MonHun peeps are excited about this new thing, and how others that seemingly abandoned the series after the PSP feel like it's time to jump back on, good for them. I'm just not going to pretend that this game isn't going to have gone too far down the entice "new audience" path before a playable Demo is in my hands.

Yeah, but now you can enter as a random mid-hunt. I imagine that most of the serious players will run with specific groups when they co-op, but less seasoned players will probably have to learn the hard way.

Nothing about MH is casual friendly. It's equivalent to arguing that crocodile wrestling could be a mainstream sport if you removed a couple of the thing's teeth and gave the participants helmets.

So as usual you're going to assume the absolute worst until you have explicit proof otherwise. You do you, I guess.

I also like how you're implying only non-MH and lapsed MH fans are excited for this. Lmao

Eh? MH was a social phenomenon. Pretty much every one was playing it.

But yeah, most of the 'concerns' some people seem to be having are silly at best.

I think it is like MHW is more of going back to its roots, the console MH, where they try to pronounce QoL based on the tech available back then. It was PSP series where the series slanted to boss-battle festa.

Do we know how the Japanese response to this has been? All Youtube videos seem to be getting a lot of hits.

Also, it seems like there's two accessory slots -- looks like you can bring two mantles or use that slot for something else.

If you actually read that comment, it's pretty obvious they're talking about potions etc and not attack animations. Attack animations have nothing to do with going to different areas.

Just about every time I see ... rolling out of an attack animation where it wasn't available before

Doesn't feel like Capcom is done Capcpcom'ing just yet. I see absolutely no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt when they've been pretty great at being a total fucking mess for quite awhile.

I am sure they will continue to make changes to World that are amazing gameplay and QoL upgrades but will equally annoy diehard fans. Who knows, their DLC plans could be obnoxious and penny pinching and that puts everyone off.

Has the main MH team fucked up yet? This "Capcom gonna Capcom" shit is asinine when many of their bad decisions involved farming their franchises out to other devs.

The only concern I have at this point is their plans for DLC.

.

I actually had to track the original comment down, as reply he made to me was referring directly to breaking attack animations (or at least in reference to having patience as a GS user).
...
I mentioned a few pages back that gematsu revealed that you can now naturally cancel out of some of your animations to make up for the more open world combat. I wasn't dying for that mechanic as Great Sword taught me patience but it makes the grind a little more relaxing.
...

Don't be a fuck. Maybe I misread a comment and interpreted the rolling in the vid incorrectly. When a Demo drops, I'll get to see if it's still the MonHun I enjoy or something else entirely.

So this is a bad joke then. You saw something old from past games and things not even confirmed to exists!

still no direct feed HD footage yet?

At least they are posting promo content lately

Hopefully the HQ feeds will be available soon

I'll play with you. What time zone and what's your gf's friend code? I'm in Hawaii.

It was always like that. The main thing the portable games did was compacting all the stuff from multiplayer into the gathering halls instead of the multi-area cities that the console games had.

Seems like there is a monster pulse reading on the bottom left of the UI/HUD. It beats rapidly when the monster is enraged, and is close to flatlining when the monster is close to death.

I'm theoretically interested in this, but the grinding just kills it for me. I just can't justify the time spent any more for the small chance of getting what I need. Which will then be superseded soon after by newer gear. I mean, yeah that's MH, but the game is great outside of that.

Good eye. I had noticed it before but I had no idea it was related to the monster's health, if it truly is. That will be good for capturing, although, maybe it's a passive skill that you need a set or decorations for.

Could it also be your hunter's heart rate, indicating if the monster is enraged or fleeing? I didn't see it.

No, it's definitely for the monster. Because when there are multiple monsters, there are multiple indicators for each one.

They're also labeled by an icon depicting the monster.

I'm certain it's the monster's heart rate. When the Great Jagras joins the fight you see a second reading show underneath its icon. This will be useful for capturing monsters and knowing when they're enraged.

My only slight worry with World is that they lessen the grind by letting players "buy" Plates/Horns etc. I am ok with some trade up system, like the fishing was in Tri etc.

It will definitely be useful. I wonder if it's an armor skill or if you always have that info. If you always know, it might make capturing easier than in the past because you used to need an armor skill or wait for the monster to limp to know if it could be captured.

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing. Capture quests have always sucked. At least this time around you can use the shiny mantle to get the monster to follow you back to your traps.
