Since the subject of Toriyama's wealth came up a few pages ago, allow me to direct your eyes here. This came out a year before he dropped Dr. Slump and started Dragonball.

To be honest, I actually wanted him to come here sooner, but last year, the announcements of his wedding and his coming in first in the ranking of Japan's wealthiest1 came at the same time, and things were thrown into confusion, and this very pure individual became quite shy of other people, and wouldn't show his face up until now; today, we have finally got him here.

Tetsuko: Well.... At any rate, now, I thought perhaps we might talk about that in a moment, but you started that serial, and the first impression of its book was 1.9 million copies. In the first impression.

Toriyama: Ah.... I'd heard about that.

Tetsuko: It's an incredible number. Even with comics, for the first impression to have 1.9 million. And now, there are now volumes one to nine out.

Toriyama: Right.

Tetsuko: Totaled all together, it's 22,480,000 copies.

Toriyama: Really? That much?

Tetsuko: It's incredible. But, coming in first in the ranking of Japan's wealthy, standing head and shoulders above all other people in your field, to be 35th in all of Japan, it's really quite amazing, don't you think?

Toriyama: I suppose so? Well, things like money, I can't quite picture, so....

Tetsuko: Right? And, living yourself in Nagoya, as you do, you must not have much of a sense of how well it's selling?

Toriyama: Right. Yes. So, when I come to Tokyo, times like that, seeing the bookshops stacked with copies, I think, ”Well I guess it really is selling, huh"....

Tetsuko: Do you always receive product samples?

Toriyama: Yes, I do.

Tetsuko: So much that it won't all fit in your house; is that right?

Toriyama: Right. Before.... Well, now we've built a new house, but up until then, it was a pretty small place, and it wouldn't all fit, so we actually rented another house and put it there.

Toriyama: It's a truly little motorbike, though. One that wouldn't even come to 100,000 yen.

Tetsuko: But you really are that way with a variety of things?

Toriyama:. That's right. If it's too expensive, y'know. I've been really frugal with money since way back, so I can't buy something if it's too expensive. I'm not that brave.

Tetsuko: But, even cars, and such. But at any rate, not liking people, or rather, not going among people that much, when you go out, you don't have many things to do with a car; is that right?

Toriyama: Right. Having gone and bought it, I can barely go in it. Although it's also because I'm busy with work. Also, I don't like going out for a drive very much, so when I don't need it for something — going to the supermarket, and such — I don't use it.

Toriyama: Yes, that's true. I'm not the kind of person who enjoys big crowds very much. There aren't very many people over there back home, so I can feel pretty well at ease.

Tetsuko: But, when you come to Tokyo, and then take a look at the book shops like that, Dr. Slump is just stacked up on the shelves.

Toriyama: Right.

Tetsuko: So the sense of, ”Ah, there it is" — it must hit home more in Tokyo, then?

Toriyama: That's true. No matter what. After all, when I look at the book store in my neighborhood, I'll think, ”I bet they're just selling it because they feel obligated to."

Tetsuko: Mmm. But looking ahead — now, up to Volume 9, as I mentioned before, it's at the incredibly large number of 22.48 million copies in print, you'll still be continuing your serial, so it's going to get even larger.

Toriyama: Right. I figure I can probably keep drawing it for at least a little while longer.

Akira Toriyama was ranked #1 among those in the ”other" category, and notably had a higher income than the wealthiest politicians, authors, singers, actors, and athletes on the list, though — as stated later in the program — he was 35th overall.

Again, this is before he even started Dragonball. There are tons other interesting things in that interview, too.

What if in the same way Super recreated the Yamcha death scene during the baseball game, they
remake the scene where Freiza slices himself in two, but with Krillin being the one behind the Disc
?

Is it something like so?

Because I had no idea that in English those are called "tops" :p

Yeah, those are tops. Sometimes people call them "spinning tops" to clarify.
The tournament stage is a pretty standard top shape, too, I thought the same thing when I first saw it.

Also, Toppo will be fighting in the ToP on a top-shaped stage, where he tries to knock the other competitors off the top of the stage so that his team will be the one that ends up on top. Goku will have to be on the top of his game because he's the top priority for the other universes.

Thanks :)

I made the connection with the shape, not so much with the English name for it I guess :p

When people were figuring who would get dropped, everyone figured it would be Buu. Krillin is fairly prominent along with him & Gohan getting a two-episode adventure before the arc.

That was because of Buu's history. And without spoilers, you wouldn't know someone was dropped by the opening.

You mean like the opening had Buu?

Buu had the smallest presence in the opening though. He only appeared in group shots with the entire cast.

Going solely by presence in the opening.

Goku > Vegeta > Gohan = 17 > Kuririn > Roshi > Tenshinhan > Piccolo = 18 > Buu

Never quite understood why fansubs in general like to go HARDCORE with the insults thrown in these shows xD

I think it's a combination of wanting to be cool, and the fact that Japanese doesn't really have swearing in the same way as English. Everyone in Dragonball - except Freeza, for the most part - is rude.

Maybe :p It's always fun to see the official translation as "idiot" or "stupid" or "bastard" and then the fansubs going with "FUCKER!", "MOTHERFUCKER" and so forth lol

I'm surprised we don't have a break in July for Fuji TV's 27-hour Day of Television.
I wonder if they just aren't doing it this year or if it's not on a Sunday.

What's the consensus here on the manga versus the anime? I gotta say I like their handling of Merged Zamasu much more in the manga.

Honestly, I think the manga's okay as a supplement, but I generally dislike everything Toyotaro does differently.

His Piccolo vs. Frost fight in the anime was one of the best fights in the franchise minus the disappointing ending, while the manga was just standard and uninteresting fight. The anime had Hit be an incredibly cool fighter who I want to see tons more of and who can clearly fight on Goku's level even when he can't fight at his best, whereas the manga Hit feels like he's outright inferior, and we only have Goku's word to suggest that he might not be. Goku Black is both overwhelmingly powerful and has a unique, creepy personality, but in the manga he's whiny and unimpressive until he fuses. Plus, the transformation nonsense.

I think the only things that I feel is outright better are Future Zamasu - because he's more valuable there - and some of the minor details about the forms. Like the more concise Super Saiyan Blue name, and the different colour of Super Saiyan Rose being explained.

Basically, my thinking is that if this was the only version of Super, I'd be really disappointed. But it isn't, so I can enjoy it as a side thing.
