Asian-GAF: We're all the same, like Stormtroopers |OT| |AT|

Bae just told me (this took place in Tokyo) that her girlfriend (AsAm) was extremely pissed off at a white American dude who straight up called her "half-caste".

I'm baffled at the outright racism and insane ignorance. I had no idea people would use that term for people who are half Asian.

Why is it that these racist people keep going to Japan?

Anime/Manga/James Clavell novels.

AsianGAF meetup this weekend, Saturday, in socal. Let's have dinner & dessert. I can bring a boardgame if y'all want to play at a cafe or something. We can always do a place in downtown Disney (I really like the tapas place!), or we can find something else.

Let me know when y'all are free.

I should be free this Saturday but I thought the meetup wasn't until July

Sorry but I have a friend visiting from out of town this weekend.

That reminds me, I met a fellow Chinese American here in Guangzhou. We played board games at a Chinese shop. Fun stuff. We played an American card game, and also played one of the games they had at the shop.

So, the group I'm going to D23 with made a dinner reservation for our group for that Saturday at 8PM. Maybe I can meet up after? Before? Or maybe Sunday?

I'm meeting up with another friend in LA on the Tuesday after.

I got a 2nd D23 ticket for Sunday so I'll be going on both the 15th and 16th now. And that Tuesday I have class until 5 so anytime after that

Its weird that I kind of avoid the Asian-American community where I live, but participate in online communities. I guess anonymity and less stress?

I doubt anything will happen.

That being said, to address one of your original questions, do you not have Asian friends in real life? Just wondering what you meant by, Asian community.

I don't dance in the SGV Chinese dance troupes, don't go to any cultural things, aren't in any cultural clubs.

I have Asian friends in real life. I used to be involved in Asian-American things heavily, but at some point decided to just stop and separate and distance myself from all of it.

Not every AsAm participates in their own cultural activities (which I'm sure you know already :p). We have the yearly Hmong Tournament, Hmong New Year, Festival of Nations, etc., but I don't go to them because, well, I don't want to lol.

I tend to enjoy online discussions more because I get to read and experience what other's have experienced no matter what color they are. I have alot of empathy and on a rpg scale..... Probably a 80-90 rating.

And also because I'm a damn hermit 😒

Wait I heard that dude got fired. The one that called the Asian lady a Cambodian n word.

So maybe something happened? Bet y'all $10 he, or some other guy on his behald, is going to try and play the victim of always being the victim of a SJW society.

Those damn pesky es jay dubyas!!!!

I find it funny how racist idiots keep getting their racism wrong. Uh.... If you're racist at least be correct, lol. Chinks, gooks, slanty eyed motherfuckers, etc.

Board game? What is this? No batteries? No screens?

Every GAFer is supposed to own a Nintendo Switch by now.

I used to have a Scene It board game. That's about as close to a board game with a screen as I got. It was fun but it got old once you've played it enough times to know all of the questions.

This is probably the coolest board game I've ever seen
dark-souls-board-game.jpg
but it's also over $100 which is more than I'd ever be willing to spend on a board game for myself.

This is on my list for purchase soon, though

I do have this. I don't think they sell it anymore

I... Should have told you about Asian-Gaf, lol. But I rarely run into you besides the EDM and DCEU community OTs! Welcome and w always, ALWAYS! want food pics for first timers.

3 out of the top 10 topics on OT are about Asians being the target of racism/inequity/ridicule and some people still think Asians don't experience racism.

It's a wide known issue but the gist of it is that we shouldn't get to air out our issues/problems because other PoC have it worst compared to us. Model Minority and the Bamboo Ceiling, etc.

Also, it's ok to make fun of Asians because "reasons".

I can't seem to find a cached version of the last page, but I did find ones for the others. I would've assumed that it would've just gotten closed when things started going nuts.

Deleted, though? I don't know.

I guess someone didn't get the point of the movie.

Oh well.

My best friend thinks BvS is the best superhero movie of all time.

You fall in love with who you fall in love with. People who are politicize this too much are boring.

BvS is a dumb movie and the only reason I am invested in the DCEU is because I just want to see DC characters on the big screens. On that note, I just really want to see how they handle Barry Allen in The Justice League.

Oh hey, my "dumb sushi chef doing fake accent" article was one of those, wasn't it? I debated posting that because I knew it would get the full brunt of "the bantz" defense force

Nah. Too many plotlines, they blew the 'Superman dies' thing way too early and then undid it even earlier so there was no time to feel anything or have it leave an impact, Lois was almost entirely useless, Lex acted more like the Riddler than Lex Luthor and he does waaaaaay too much important shit offscreen (figuring out who both Batman and Superman are, for example), Doomsday looked like a Lord of the Rings troll, there were too many dream sequences alluding to other story arcs, and the whole 'Martha' thing, while I get what they were going for, was poorly executed.

The whole thing feels like a good Batman film trapped inside of a bad Superman film trapped inside of a Justice League setup.

Other than the email scene I thought the JL setup was fine. There wasn't really that much. Lex's plan was very Lex like, he talked a little weird but it's not a big deal. And it's gone in the end and he implies that was all for sure for an insanity plea. Doomsday looked like fucking Doomsday. It's just a giant monster. If LoTR didn't exist would this be an issue for you? I can only remember the one Knightmare sequence that alluded to other story arcs. Wasn't a fan of that scene but it's not exactly a lot. Martha could have been better.

The movie overall is obviously not perfect. But I personally appreciate what they tried to do and can ignore the flaws because of it.

I don't think any of that was an insanity plea. He acts that way throughout the entire movie. He was implying something that was cut from the theatrical release (contacting Darkseid's guys) and that's also implied through one of the Knightmares, though it doesn't make sense why Batman dreams of parademons. Lex could obviously get carried away and pissed when Superman was involved but for the most part he's supposed to maintain a calm and collected businessman attitude, not shoving Jolly Ranchers into senators' mouths. And on top of the LotR troll look I'm not entirely sure why combining Zodd's corpse with Lex's blood would make...that...so if LotR didn't exist it'd still probably bother me. And there's that whole thing about Superman getting framed for shooting people.

I still enjoyed it though. The Warehouse scene is fucking lit. And as much as nearly everybody hating cgi fights, I enjoyed the shit out of the Doomsday fight.

Then for Suicide Squad, Barry's quick appearance and Amanda made the movie for me. What a perfect cast for Amanda. The end fight with Incubus was soooo stupid though lol.

Planning for D23 might take some doing this year. The gaming panel is at 1 so I need to get a stagepass to guarantee a spot there if I can, but there's a 2nd panel that I want to go to at 3 in Hall D23. That might be a little late.

I don't talk about the theatrical cut. That wasn't Snyder's vision.

At the end he's talking normally, and then stutters and says "but but but I'm insane!" like it's definitely intentional. The Knightmare was dealing with a whole different timeline, which I agree was totally out of place. The Jolly Rancher scene gets talked about, but I don't see the problem? He was literally making someone eat out of the palm of his hand. It's a show of power. It's very Lex-like imo. It's a comic book movie..about an alien being created, why can't it make it's own rules? The ship "activated doomsday device", which apparently needs a dead Kryptonian and some blood. Did you watch the extended? I assume no, but the framing storyline is actually pretty well thought out imo. Also, nobody thinks he shot people.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. We don't have to keep talking about it in here. Most people hated it, I get that. I'm not attached to the characters and just loved the different type of superhero movie both it and MoS provided. Wish we could have more in this style with Geoff Johns guidance to tighten it up, but alas...

yea the action pieces for that movie were awesome. I loved the Doomsday fight, felt like an actual comic book come to life.

Didn't finish SS...was too bored lol. But Amanda was definitely perfectly cast.

Oooh I watched it. Borrowed it form a friend to show to a different friend who had never seen the movie before and is pretty indifferent to the source material. She wasn't big on it either. We both agreed that they tried to do too much in a single film.
