New update on VR support from their Dev Log:

We’re now working super close with the guys at Oculus to release SUPERHOT VR later this year. We’re really trying to capitalize on all of the new design possibilities that Virtual Reality is giving us.

The level of game immersion that you get from playing SUPERHOT in VR is simply crazy. We try to add as much as we can to that from us. Recently, we played around with holophonics type of sounds in SUPERHOT. Thanks to that you will be able to for example “locate” a passing bullet just by the noise it creates.

No more shooting in the back from now!

For now we concentrate on Oculus.

We’re currently hard at work introducing procedural generation to SUPERHOT. What this means is that every single playthrough will be different. The game will adapt to how you play and will give everyone a different and “personal” experience ;) In the long run, this will make it way harder to master SUPERHOT DLC. You won’t be able to learn the game by heart any more, you’ll need to work on your skills instead!

We’re already testing 20+ entirely new locations and there’s heaps of new scenarios in locations you already know from the original SUPERHOT. You’ll recognize some of the scenes we’re working on from your favorite movies, others are taken straight from the hellish depths of our imaginations. As an important common factor though, they’ll all make you feel exceedingly badass.

SKILLS KILLS

Oh, and all those super awesome action moves you’re doing in SUPERHOT - we’re now making them count. Complete a particularly badass combo and the system will reward you. Keep showing off and you just might be able to unlock new stuff to use in future playthroughs.

Is this game coming to Playstation platforms? In January 2014:

SUPERHOT‏ @SUPERHOTTHEGAME

@1ReallyLongName No plans for a PS4 release (for now), since Unity doesn't support PS4 yet - only Vita and PS3.

Well, it's July 2016. Unity supports PS4 and there's no PS3 or Vita versions, regardless.

That last part has me a little worried. I don't think I've played a single action game that "judges" your combos in a way that encourages MORE experimentation. The opposite is often true.

Which is probably still a step in a more dynamic direction for people that otherwise just never think to mix things up, but when you're already playing the game because you can make it a free-form juggling act, I'm worried that this could hold your imagination back instead.

Hopefully I worry for nothing.

I think there are definitely ways to encourage it, though (like you said) not many games do. Arkham games were pretty good at that, in the sense that it rewarded the player for using all of the abilities and devices in a single unbroken combo.

Batman has predetermined moves and knows exactly when you execute them. In a more dynamic game where you essentially create your own moves, it has to actually determine on the fly whether it is a "move" or not.

SUPERHOT is all about thinking outside the box. About not only combining preset maneuvers, but exploiting every aspect of your basic movement to create an awesome feeling sequence. If SUPERHOT doesn't actually understand in an equally dynamic way that what you're doing IS awesome, it'll just serve to distract you from the real possibilities of the game.

Suddenly you have "canonical" awesome things you can do, and the cool stuff around those is just reduced to pointless faffing about.

The most positive thing I can say for sure about a scoring system is that people who didn't feel compelled to seek those maneuvers out will finally have an officially sanctioned Reason™ to do so, and may stumble across the game inside the game in the process. :)

This is the last released game I need to get for 2016, if the free DLC hits Xbox One, I may just forget my backlog and just buy it right away.

How is the Xbox One version of this? I don't wanna recommend it in the winter sale to Xbox friends if that version is borked somehow.

I just wanna tell the world that I finally got the achievement for beating all the levels under the red times in the speedrun challenge. Maybe one day I'll finish speedrunrt. But fuck the rest of the challenges; I've beat a few but some are absolutely ridiculous. Hardmode, impossible and norestart are out of the question.

Got to try this in vr the other day and it was fantastic

I would buy a psvr for this, I don't have a gaming pc myself so that won't happen

This game needs to not be exclusive

Yeah, an analog stick is wonderful for this game. Gives you so much more control. It's genuinely more fun with it.

(It depresses me that standard PC movement controls are still stuck with digital. Digital has its uses -- I love shoot-em-ups and fighting games -- but fine-grained 3D space movement isn't necessarily one of them.)

Just finished this game tonight after getting it in the monthly humble bundle, I have a DS4 that I love but I ended up playing this with my mouse and keyboard because it felt like every single rotation mattered. Guess I should have given a try with my DS4, oh well there's endless mode and the challenges now.

Amazing game btw, it actually IS the most innovative shooter I've played in years. Between DOOM, Titanfall 2 and this - FPS singleplayer gamers were spoiled last year.

I noticed a weird trend in some negative Steam reviews of this game. A lot of people who say the story is awful and actively detracted from the experience also mention that the game is super short and can be beaten in a few hours (it took me just under 5 hours for what it's worth).

But like, there are a toooooooon of more advanced modes and challenges and stuff after you beat the game that have no story in them at all. So it would be a best of both worlds thing but I guess they don't wanna bother after beating the campaign? people are weird

Is superhot VR the same game as the normal version or is it its own entity entirely.

Im tempted to pick it up none vr and play that until its released on PSVR (Its currently only a tenner on Xbox Live) - if its exactly the same though really I should wait for the VR release.

Wow this really was the most innovative shooter i've played in years!

Just finished it and showed a friend, he commented that it had real Hotline Miami vibes about it.

Thats only the highest praise really. Cant wait to play SuperhotVR

No official announcement from the devs, but it looks like the SUPERHOT will be coming to the ps4 on july 18th! Pretty surprised its coming out this fast, but damn i'm happy i'll finally be able to play this. There's also a 20% discount for ps+ members on the store (EU Store, not sure about the US one).

Wait. This is coming to PS4?! Fuck, I have been waiting forever to play this. After the giantbomb crew ranting and raving about it all last year

Played the tutorial. The game plays as I hoped so far, and I'm loving the narrative framing device.

My first fifteen minutes with the game was spent watching (plot spoiler?)
a creepy message board conversation
! I get enough of that on GAF :D

Played it on PSVR last night, after it finally unlocked. Absolutely awesome game, I can see why so many people rave about it. Smashing a guy with an object, grabbing his gun mid air and turning to shoot his buddies is just brilliant, it's like you are in an action movie like the Matrix.

Tracking is solid with the Moves, although you need a good camera position, as the game requires the camera to see a good amount of space around you because you need to move around a bit, to dodge / duck under bullets and the odd environmental hazard and be able to reach low down to pick up weapons on the floor.

You really need to play standing to get the best out of the game though, I tried it sitting first and the tracking can be off when reaching down to pick up things off the floor, so standing works much better.

Are Move controllers required for VR? Or do they just play best with them?

Some games require them, like superhot VR. But in general they are recommended, even for games that work with DS4 like bridge crew or rush of blood. Motion controls were (mostly) a waste of time during 6th gen., but they really are a game changer for VR. The same goes for standing while playing (for some games).

A lot of games work with the DS4 but motion controls are the best way to play any VR really, as it makes it more immersive, having two hands to interact with things, just like in real life, so it's worth getting the Moves for PSVR.
