Games not known for their high difficulty you found surprisingly hard

- Breath of the Wild

I'm struggling a bit with this lol. I'm pretty far into the game (I could finish it any time) but I gotta say I still find the fights quite challenging. I'm used to rather hard games and figured I'd cruise through the game but nothing like that happened. Killing Guardians with perfect parries is still a challenge and Lynels take a lot of time until they go down. I actually find myself avoiding most fights because they seem to be a major pain in the ass and rarely worth it.

- Hollow Knight

Known for its high-ish difficulty but frankly, this is easily the hardest Metroidvania I've played and I'm not sure I was aware of that before going into the game. I can't even see what comes close (perhaps some obscure indie Metroidvania I've never heard of). Hard boss fights, tough platforming. Outstanding game overall though.

Hmm.. I thought both BotW and Hollow Knight weren't exactly regarded as easy? Especially at the beginning.

Still havent escaped Jason and have only witnessed an escape a couple of times.

The guys in the OP insinuated I was lying when I told them I was finding the game difficult. Telling me that I need to 'GIT gud' and that my stories were highly unlikely.

Must be an easy game, but I'm not clicking.

Ninja Gaiden Yaiba is the only game I've completed on easy (rather than normal) in my adult life. Specifically the sewer section where you're jump platform to platform with enemies on each. It was horrible.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - PS2

Some of the patrol patterns for the stealth sections are total bullshit and the duals are finicky as hell with the hit detection/timing. I have no idea how I had the patience to beat this as a kid.

Also, I fucking blow at Hitman. Even after messing around for several hours on the map I just can't seem to get a plan to work so I end up aimlessly going about completing like half the necessary steps for a dozen different exectutions.

When has the response to 'this game is hard' ever been anything but something along the lines of 'git gud' from gamers? Ever? Telling other gamers they suck is literally a gamer's favourite thing.

I don't know why, but Pikmin 2 and New Little King's Story both come to my mind first.

Pikmin 2 is brutally difficult with obscenely tough enemies, even more so if you are trying not to lose Pikmin. We played it for the first time a few months back and had to take a break because it is so intensely difficult and stressful

Ori and the Blind Forrest.

Very tough and tricky in many parts. There were definitely some areas where we got stuck. Very satisfying to progress through those parts (and all parts - absolutely loved the game).

End boss of MGS4 is the first thing that comes to mind. My friends where all praising how powerful and nostalgic that fight was. All I remember is retrying it what felt like a dozen times and being very frustrated. I don't even remember what was particularly hard about it, the rest of the game isn't particularly difficult.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

A lot of people note that it was too easy when they talk about it, and as a result I went on Hard when I started playing it. However, it kicked my arse so I had to dial it down to Normal, and even then some battles were tough unless I used the Reckoning (aka Devil Trigger) mode to take them down insultingly easily. Like, there are some bigger enemies later in the game called something like Jotun, and they would obliterate me if there was more than one. Maybe I just had bad strategy? I generally used a broadsword and chakras for most of the game.

Civ 6, for me. People keep saying how its easier and more balanced than previous entries but here I am getting wrecked by Barbarians and barely able to keep pace with the CPU. I found Civ 5 and 4 much simpler, maybe I'm just missing something lol.

Common with many games in it's genre I was pretty bad at playing The Last of Us even on the default difficulty. I'm bad with most games with third or first person shooting really as I'm the worst aimer of a crosshair.

Goldeneye/Perfect Dark. If you want to unlock everything and play all missions. Some missions were nearly impossible for me. Goldeneye - Control in 007 mode. Good luck with that one.

Metal Gear Solid. Especially 3- Virtuous Mission probably took me over 20 if not 30 tries to clear on Normal

still at the beginnings of the game

I actually find the bosses in Kirby's Adventure pretty tough, there's not always much room for error and their patterns aren't as predictable as you may expect

Darkest Dungeon, I know the game is considered a hard one, but I just die even on the easiest difficulty, no matter how much I read about the game, how handy the wiki is, I just explode and never got past hard dungeons.

Seriously? Oh normal.

Please stick with it, it's one of the best in that series

Maybe it hasn't "clicked" with you yet?

I like to think I'm above average in games but sometimes when I wanna 100% a game I like, I find myself having quite some difficulties especially in fishing mini-games whereas most trophy/achievement hunters think it's easy.

I really dislike fishing mini games because of that, I rather fight hard bosses.

If you have MGS2 substance/HD edition, do the VR missions, they're super fun and they will teach you the mechanics and strategies that translate over to the campaigns.

Also in MGS3, you sneak if you use the d-pad to move :p

Yeah idk I found the game brain dead easy on hard.

I change my mind. Hollow Knight isn't hard if you didn't go for the best ending, thus avoiding the difficulty spikes like the Dream Bosses and Palace.

Phone reception is more important to me than human rights
Ori and the Blind Forrest.

I stopped playing this at
the crumbling cave part
or whatever it was.

That was a few months ago. I may try again soon. Can it be put on easy? If so, I might do that.

I dont know if its not known for high difficulty but G.I Joe is one of the few games I have to play on easy. Normal is too damn hard. I dont think it even has a hard setting.

Might & Magic: Heroes VI was randomly brutally difficult, at least for the ~5 missions I bothered to play before going back to King's Bounty.

I went for the true ending. Indeed, the game ain't too bad if you don't bother with the optional stuff.
Failed Champion, Trial of Fools, White Palace and The Radiance
are the hardest things in the game, all of which can be skipped.

I remember having an absolute nightmare with Sonic 2 on the Game Gear. It took me forever to beat the first boss battle with the bouncing bombs.

Ori and the Blind Forrest.

Yeah, going to agree with this one for me. It took me a lot longer than I expected to grab onto this one. And I did fairly well with super meat boy. It was a few years between and I'm not as quick with responses as I used to be.

Which fishing mini-games? I tend to like those when I feel frustrated with other things hahaha.

I played through The Last of Us when it first came out on hard difficulty, and I had no trouble whatsoever. I tried replaying it earlier this year and couldn't get past the first stealth/combat encounter.

... I didn't remember that encounter being even remotely difficult that first time. =(

I remember F-Zero GX on GameCube to be incredible hard that I could only finish the first few tracks. but maybe that was just me sucking.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengence
I played it on Hard and never beat the last boss. I wasn't very good at slicing with accuracy though, so that was probably my downfall.

everybody thinks Super Castlevania IV is a relatively easy Castlevania game but I found it very frustrating and difficult. Meanwhile I thought Dracula X wasn't too hard at all outside of the troll ass last boss...which still gave me less trouble than SCIV's Death. I guess I just couldn't wrap my head around the way it played.

GX is DEFINITELY known as a hard game. But most people think of mission mode there, not the first tracks...so yeah I guess that counts.
