Synopsis

The film tells the story of four lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Music Festival, where sisterhoods are rekindled and wild sides are rediscovered

Reviews

Tiffany Haddish is the best thing going in a film that has plenty else to recommend it, especially for audiences eager to see a truly wild summer comedy.

Unlike some similar comedies about grownup friends, the four core characters are actually likeable.

We're in it for the ride, the company, and the pure pleasure of watching these women, and the actresses playing them, embrace an independence Hollywood doles out too grudgingly.

The progression from raunchy, raucous laughs into dramatic conflict and then out the other side into the uplifting empowerment of sisterhood and self-worth isn't entirely seamless, but there's too much dizzy pleasure here to get hung up on the flaws.

"Girls Trip" has something for everyone - provided that they're old enough to see a hard-R-rated comedy, and not so easily offended that an explicit demonstration of the so-called "grapefruit technique" would send them running for the exits.

Will add more reviews

Supersonic, idiotic, disconnecting, not respecting, who would really ever wanna go and top that

Thank God. So many R rated comedies go the opposite direction and fail because of it. I remember watching Mike & Dave's Wedding Whatever last summer and EVERYONE in that movie is an asshole 100% of the time.

You know what, let me give props to Essence magazine for finding a way to remain relevant and survive the death of print media, especially as a black enterprise.

There's this movie, and the actual Essence Fest it's based on was hype as fuck this year.

I'mma go see it.

Haddish has been doing great work on the just cancelled The Carmichael show along with the 'Get Out' movie standout Rel Howerly. Going to see this based off her casting (and despite Latifa's, lol).

I liked Rough Night, the reviews for it are understandable, if I was looking for something to dislike it would be ScarJo.

MicKinnon and Ilana Glazer were a riot.

Girls Trip is probably gonna be better, probably because of the storyline. I also liked Bad Moms, so..

WTF is going? I thought it was gonna be yet another trashy comedy romp based on the trailers and the marketing of this movie

Could it be another 21 Jump Street / Hungover film where everyone thought its gonna be awful and turns out to be good?

No offense, but bolded kind make me go ''Hang on moments''

I really hated Bad moms, thought it was unfunny, Corney and just plain bad

First I heard of this movie. The poster and the title imply shitty low brow comedy, surprised to see it getting good reviews

I heard some radio ads for this and it sounded terrible. Glad to see it was just a case of bad ads and that it's actually good.

This is gonna confuse the German audience, where "Get him to the Greek" was localized as "Männertrip", or "Men's Trip".
Sounds like they pulled a Ghostbusters style reboot.

This is a 46-year old person. What dark lord of magicks owes her a favor?

I also called this doing better than Rough Night. The trailer looked more fun. Which is a shame - I actually really like the people behind Rough Night, but it looked like a movie from 2002.

Didn't look too good from the trailer I saw. Good thing it's getting great reviews. Haven't seen the Queen Latifah in a long time.

I can't wait for this. I saw the first trailer months ago and I knew it would be good. This reminds me of getting back together with my friends from college in Miami every summer.

I'm really surprised at the good reviews just because the trailers looked like any typical comedy, but I'll be going to see this.

I'm happy to see this is getting good reviews I'll probably watch it with some friends of mine after Dunkirk. I expect this to make decent money since it appeals to a largely untapped audience that Hollywood mostly ignores.

I haven't watched the TV show Power, but I remember reading he joined the cast for the 4th season.

I didnt know that, he hasnt shown up yet in season 4, but its only been 3 episodes

Box office is def gonna be interesting this week, Girls Trip, Dunkirk and Valerain none of those are expected to but up huge numbers like the last few weeks top movie, we will see how things stack

The critic consensus is up on Rotten Tomatoes.

Rotten Tomatoes Critic Consensus said:
Girls Trip is the rare R-rated comedy that pushes boundaries to truly comedic effect -- and anchors its laughs in compelling characters brought to life by a brilliantly assembled cast.
