Ben Affleck is heading to Comic-Con this weekend to promote Warner Bros.' upcoming Justice League movie, set for a Nov. 17 release. But how many more times is he likely to put on the Batsuit? Probably not many, if ever again.

Yes, Warners' film studio chief Toby Emmerich tells The Hollywood Reporter, "Ben is our Batman. We love him as Batman. We want to keep him in the cowl as long as we can." And Matt Reeves, who will direct the studio's still-undated (and unwritten) The Batman, has said that he means to keep Affleck in the role. But a source with knowledge of the situation says that the studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck's Batman — gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films

In addition, Affleck will turn 45 in August, so he would be pushing 50 before The Batman arrives in theaters. If Reeves makes a trilogy, Affleck would be in his mid-50s at best by the time that’s done. Maybe Tom Cruise could pull that off but Affleck’s body hasn’t exactly been a temple.

I'm wondering if they're going to go for Dick replacing Bruce (but then sticking with it) or if they're going to have some Flashpoint shit at work that basically does the same thing publishing did: Pick & choose what parts of the universe you wanna incorporate. That lets you recast.

I love him as Batman and want him to keep going, but I always found it really weird that they decide to make him way older than normal when they were planning on starting a cinematic universe which was going to go for years. They kind of wrote themselves into a corner with that one unless they always planned to replace him with Dick Grayson down the road.

They should just recast and be done with it. Affleck didn't do some sort of legendary performance that will never be touched again.

Why would they bother addressing it in the films. Just recast. If you have to give a reason then that likely means they are passing on the cowl which is stupid at this point. You haven't even made a Batman standalone film. How can you move on from Bruce Wayne now?

Yeah I always thought it was an odd decision to make Batman way more aged than the rest of the DCEU cast.

Armie Hammer could convincingly play a younger Affleck. Dump him in the lazarus pit.

I'm all for Dick Bats as a permanent replacement, but WB will probably veto the idea to prevent brand confusion across all the licensed Batman properties. Damn Shame, Dick and Damien would be interesting.

I was baffled why they cast so old with Bats to begin with since it was obvious they character needed to be around a long time.

It's a genuine shame they messed it up though as Affleck made a great Bats in a bad batman movie. Hopefully we do at least get this Matt Reeves Affleck movie before they phase him out.

Dude has been going through a lot though. So he probably just wants to take a step back. Lets be real. if he's not 100% into it. He can be replaced and should be.

This made me look up Bale's age, he was only 30 when he filmed Batman Begins, the exact same age the character was. Neat.

Yeah just get Nightwing or whatever in here. I don't care for Murderman.

I would like him to do The Batman with Matt Reeves, and then I'll be fine with him leaving, and eventually returning to directing his own movies.

WB got three options:

A) Reboot this whole universe
B) Flashpoint/Crisis this shit
C) Bruce dies in The Batman, Dick takes over

Probably gonna be C.

Probably going to recast maybe involve the Lazarus pit in order to have a younger Bruce Wayne. I doubt Dick is bats since they want to make a Nightwing movie.

I could see this being true, but I wonder how they pull it off. I'm guessing they want to keep Bruce Wayne as Batman rather than Dick Grayson, so some sort of Flashpoint craziness would be in order. It would also involve a somewhat less brutal Bruce as well I guess.

On the other hand, a lot of people do like DickBats, and he would stick to the no-kill rule.
