Ben Affleck's Batman Future in Doubt as Warner Bros. Plots Franchise

Obviously its bad. They're gonna shoe horn in a reason why batman looks differebt though. This isn't a Rhodey "I'm here get over it." Situation. Although that would be funny if they did it that way. Alfred would see a silhouette and say who are you followed by the new actor just saying I'm batman. Or something like that.

This isn't a complicated decision you just recast and move on lol He'll be introduced in the solo film and people will just go with it unless it's terrible. They don't need to shoe horn anything and I can't see Reeves doing or being made to.

I did.

My personal point was him being an old man narratively was an odd angle to take because it essentially puts them in a corner where they've only got a few years with Bruce in the role before they have to recast him or move on to Dick/Tim/whoever.

They hit all the same plot points that you're championing with a younger Bruce who's been Batman a year or two. Having the Justice League members all meet each other while they're kind of in the midst of starting their vigilantism is more interesting. Diana should've been the "experienced" one. Bruce is gonna be jaded however old he is.

Agree to disagree then, because I personally prefer the future with this older Batman, vs a younger one. In the current BvS, JL, Batman saga, the age won't make a difference. I want to see something new after that, personally.

I think it also has to do with how awful Man of Steel and BvS was. They can even reboot Suicide Squad too. They can basically fix the shit show that is the DCU with Flashpoint.

How the hell would a Flashpoint "fix" that any better than a regular movie? The death of Superman can already act as a reboot for him in JL.

FUN FACT: If you take the box office of the two George Clooney movies he made prior to Batman & Robin, double the number, they still made less money than Stephen Amell's one movie so far

You act like that's impressive 245.6 million on a 135 million budget(not including marketing) is awful, with that gross it didn't even break even.

Not sure why people think the universe needs to be rebooted to recast one guy lmao.

Hell, I'd even argue casting a younger guy and pretending Bruce was always that age would work. Just stop acknowledging everything before Wonder Woman, basically. Move on.

From Dusk Till Dawn didn't exactly light the world on fire either. That movie barely covered it's budget, let alone any marketing costs

My point is, being a "TV actor" doesn't mean you can't step up to the big screen and be a success and the role of Batman has been given to relatively unproven actors before

Wow, I can't believe DC fucked this up. They should have just given Affleck full reign to do whatever he wanted. It's going to be so strange to see a new Batman after BvS and Justice League.

I'm wondering if they're going to go for Dick replacing Bruce (but then sticking with it) or if they're going to have some Flashpoint shit at work that basically does the same thing publishing did: Pick & choose what parts of the universe you wanna incorporate. That lets you recast.
Plz give Dick Bats.

Affleck was the best thing about BvS. His age is a non issue; he had the physique of a beast. Having a grizzled, hardened Batman is exactly the kind I would want in a shared cinematic universe.

Retcon the whole thing in Wonder Woman 2 by making MoS and BvS a nightmare caused by Doctor Destiny.

This has nothing to do with that. Ben's personal life is currently a dumpster fire.

I'm really kind of confused how HR jumped from "Affleck may not stick around, WB planning graceful transition" to "Affleck to not appear in The Batman." Especially since they spend a good-sized chunk of the article talking about ways the cowl got handed off to another character.

If it happens, it's gonna be on-camera, IMO. Part of the advantage of going for an older, more established Batman is that they've got that kind of flexibility.

Which is why I think they're still in a wait and see mode to see if he can pull things together.

I just can't see them giving him the boot yet.

I think the studio is being as patient as they can be with him, but it's quickly becoming a scenario where a decision has to be made one way or the other and if Ben wants out, he wants out.

He probably wants to ghost Hollywood in general, but can't because of contractual obligations.

You don't even need to kill Bruce Wayne. He can retire from being Batman and let Dick take over while he takes on the Oracle role since I'm sure they want Barb to be around and not crippled.

It gives Affleck more flexibility and gives them an out.

Keanu is Pacino compared to Amell man haha

Amell is unfathomably terrible. My brain can't comprehend how bad he is.

I'm living in a universe where people don't acknowledge that Keanu is a completely one note actor. Someone help

Kevin Conroy is old enough to play Old Bruce. Will Friedle can cameo as Terry's father.

Has Conroy done any actual on-camera acting since the early 90s? I remember him from an old episode of Murphy Brown and all I heard was Bruce Wayne

I mean, didn't Keaton say a couple of years ago he'd be open to returning to the role in some capacity?

It's not actually going to happen

If they recast they can't just magic a younger actor. He'd have to be at least mid-30's. Otherwise they've already irreparably fucked their own narrative structure.

I think Affleck could do a really good batman past his prime and relying more on experience and tech to keep him winning.

I mean why the hell not.
