Destiny 2: Seven minutes of Survival gameplay on Altar of Flame - IGN First

What's with Destiny 2 and not innovating any new game modes.

So far we have a revamped control, search and destroy, and now Gear's version of TDM.

Hopefully this replaces Skirmish

Does the stats on the weapons mean anything for PVP? Do they balance them out during matches or? Wouldn't it make it incredibly unfair if someone rolled a Legendary Pistol of 1-shot-kill Eagles vs. a new guy with Dank Rifle of You're-out-of-Ammo?

Never tried the PVP in Destiny 1 so I don't know how it worked.

Weapons keep their stats in PvP. So yes, people do tend to gravitate towards whatever is the "best".

stats matter, part of the meta is chasing the "best" crucible weapon for your play style.

RIP Eyasaluna with luck in the chamber.

Okay, feels like then I didn't miss out on trying the PVP. Not a huge fan of competitive modes in RPGs where item stats matter, just makes it unfair in my opinion. Prefer more when doing it like Guild Wars 2, World of Warcraft and recently FFXIV that just has a standard set of equipment for everyone depending on class.

I can understand however why, in Destiny 2 it wouldn't be as much fun considering the vast amount of different weapons with different characteristics and in PvP I guess you wanna use those specific weapons. And they would be a living hell to balance.

Not the mode for my boys. Three of us are beasts. One is the guy who gets happy if he ever gets a 1.0kd. He'd take all the deaths out the pool by himself.

I says it a once and I says it again: where that free-for-all be?

There is no rumble/free-for-all at launch. Sorry bud.

Survival looks good to me. Excited to try it out. Some of those new guns looked stronger than what we had in the beta as well. The pulse he used and the Omolon AR looked good.

What "new game mode" could be made that hasn't been done? Besides, Rift was pretty terrible, and I don't think a lot of people liked Supremacy.

Sure, or at least a twist on a game mode that isn't seen in other shooters. Control was "new" enough for me with D1.

Every mode they showed in D2 so far are just clones of game modes from other games
I think asking for any new PVP mode in any shooter that is completely original is almost 99% not going to happen.

Every shooter is going to do a variation of other shooter out there.

FFS I don't think it's unreasonable to expect something new in regards to game modes for a brand new FPS sequel.

Again, I think interesting twists on existing game modes can suffice. These are just straight up the same. Rift was just a shitty version of Assault from Halo, and Supremacy was just Kill Confirmed from COD.

Completely original game modes for shooters are indeed hard, but sometimes small changes to existing game modes can make large impact.

For example, Strongholds in Halo 5 is a game mode with 3 plot zones, but plays completely differently from something like Domination in COD, simply because you only score points if you hold 2 or more zones.

But... isn't that exactly what they do every time? They put a twist on an existing game mode and call it something else. You're just boiling it down again to the mode it put a twist on. Your example is basically Zone Control from Destiny 1.

I'd really love to see an old school CTF and infection mode. Holding out hope that the planned DLC's bring us some bigger maps, and a few 6v6 casual modes. Destiny is an ever evolving beast, so I expect some love at some point for the non sweatys.

Control is an example of putting a twist on something. Zone control (and Countdown, and Survival) are literally straight copies of game modes.

My example of Halo's Strongholds is not "basically zone control." Zone control works exactly like Domination from COD, where you score points for holding at least one zone. Strongholds is different because you have to hold at least 2 zones to score points. And my point was that this small change leads to a large change in game flow, effectively making it feel "new"

But anyways, there's still two more unrevealed game modes for D2. I hope at least one of them is something "new."

Also I sorta want them to drop Clash because there's already 2 "Deathmatch" gametypes

Disappointing, thought this would be like Uncharted horde survival mode, but its just gears TDM. I never thought the difference between 4v4 and 6v6 would be that big but it really does feel completely different, gonna reserve judgement until I play - I didn't like the Titanfall 2 beta, love the final game - but so far have downgraded my order from collectors to just normal, if bungie repeats history then the first two DLCs will be really lite and not worth playing at release.

Haven't played the beta yet, but echoing what I've read the TTK looks a hair too high and overall it just looks kind of flat. Rifle combat with some high jumps. Not sure about the weapon changes to power weapons for everything. Wasn't much variety in what I just watched.

People complained relentlessly about D1 crucible being Super and grenade fest.

well the focus is back on primary gun play and people are mad.

Bungie cant win.

granted they make some really fucking stupid decisions.

"4v4 just like everything else in Destiny 2"

Fuck.

Didn't everything in D1 launch was 6 v 6. Didn't 3 v 3 come out with HoW or did they have skirmish in before that?

You can clearly have a PARTY of 6 people due to raids. Don't be surprised to see it come as a mode.

Mode looks fun. I liked the trials eque stuff in D1 more so than anything else. Was not a fan of regular PvP. Too chaotic.

Yeah I don't understand why quick play can't be 6v6 and Comp can be 4 v 4.

it sucks because at least with 6v6 entire teams can go together, now two have to drop off. Or your fireteam of 3 after a nightfall needs +1

lol.

So Titans can form a barricade and Warlocks can heal or power up their teammates, and Hunters can...roll away?

Admittedly I didn't use the Hunter at all sooo is this as crappy as it sounds in comparison to the other two?

You'd think so, but when that Hunter juuuust rolls a hair out of your super...

So crappy if you're a team player. You are giving up quite a lot of support ability picking hunter. But pretty sweet if you're that Hunter.

People say it is, but honestly, I was able to roll into cover so many times in fights where I know I would have died playing the other two classes. It doesn't benefit the team, but does everything need to benefit everyone to be in the game?

Yeah, that's it. I kinda wish Bungie would have created a few other options to go along with these and allowed the player to choose (instead of relegating one to each class) which global ability they wanted to use when they were creating a player and locking it in at that point. It would certainly make builds more interesting.
