Oculus Rift (+ Oculus Touch) is $399 for limited time

Looks like that here except the super high AA. A 1070 can't maintain 90fps even with aggressive lens-shaped rendering on that MGSAA. That's probably a 1080Ti thing...

Otherwise it looks just like that, yeah. It can all be reached with settings. Without a 10-series Nvidia card you can't get those ultra settings though.

Lots of things can cause it, but be careful cuz one potential cause is a problem with the headset to wire plug. Some people (including myself) had a problem with the headset wire joint (probably a cold solder situation). I had to RMA (which was pretty painless though).

Hopefully will not happen again. If it's disconnecting when you move the wire at all, that's probably your situation, sadly.

I really hope that Valve VR triple pack comes out (soon). Amazing games. (I love Xortex, and the catapult and arrow games are frankly amazing).

it's inconsistent. Some times it happens some times it doesn't. Sometime it does it when it just sit there. I've had it for a while now. How do i return it if this is the problem.

okay, I'm gonna ask just to be 100% sure. I saw a similar question earlier but didn't understand.

I've got a GTX 1060 G1 with just 1 HDMI port. My mobo has another HDMI port.

Do I have everything I need to properly use the Oculus Rift as packaged?

You only need 1 HDMI port, the one on your video card. However, you will need 4 or 5 USB ports. You need to put the headset and 2 sensors on your motherboards Intel USB 3.0 ports. The wireless Xbox One receiver can go on an USB 2.0 port (not 100% necessary to use wireless receiver). Finally, if you want to use a 3rd sensor (extra $60), you really need a separate USB controller/hub like the 4 port Inatek USB pci Express card you can purchase off Amazon (around $23).

Why does the third sensor need a separate controller? If my motherboard has 4 USB 3 ports is that enough for everything to work without issue? Further that can I plug anything (Like the headset) into the case USB 3 ports on the front for better wire range?

Do you have another way to connect your monitor to your PC? You can't use both of those HDMI ports at the same time.

I have/had a similar issue. The best solution I've found was to use the Windows 10 built in Connect app to screen-share my desktop to my Laptop so when I unplugged the monitor from the HDMI port and plugged the Rift in, I still have a desktop visible.

Heh, after playing it in VR there's no other way I want to play it.

I've only played Thumper in VR and I have absolutely no interest in trying it "normally" at this point. I love the way it feels like you are actually sliding down the track.

Awesome game.

Yeah you could I mean shit they only mention the requirement so the USB hubs don't short or crash because of high bandwidth.

But I have it mix and matched. I just plug my headset and cameras into whatever usbs I have on my case and it works fine.

A little surprised there's not a lot of discussion about Thumper so far.

It's not the standout VR experience that stuff like Lone Echo or Superhot are, but it's a fun rhythm game that's already pretty great on its own, but immensely benefits from VR.
Thumper is freaking awesome in VR. And once PCVR people get a taste of Polybius too, they'll be in for a reaaaal treat! Ya'll better support that sexy game once it drops on PC.

It depends. How old is your computer? Older motherboards have very crappy USB hubs from Etron and Asmedia that are incompatible with Rift (like Z87, 2013 time frame). That is why I specifically mention Intel USB 3.0 ports. Newer motherboards (like within last year or two, z170 z270) should have no issue using various USB ports as long as there are never more than 2 Sensors on one hub, some might require USB driver update from your motherboard manufacturer website if it is a non Intel port.

I picked this up but haven't played it yet (only played Robo Recall at this point). I was planning to give it a shot when my feet/arms got tired from standing/flailing in Robo Recall, but that didn't happen even after a 3 hour session yesterday. I guess I need to just sit down and give it a whirl :)

On a different note, is there any way to get an extended warranty for this thing? I don't see any HMD options at squaretrade or any option to buy one from Oculus.

I feel I'll enter a spiral of spending ass amounts of money once I see how well the Rift performs on my rig, bet I will want to super sample to 2.0 and my GTX 970 isn't going to do the job I think! GTX 1080 is a bit over 200% the performance? And price wise are going for about the same, if not more then a Rift itself, ouch.

Robo Recall is the real freakin deal ya'll.
This is the type of game that feels like it could only be found in an expensive arcade.
Its MIND BLOWING how good it is. I literally got chills playing it.

Polybius is a day one for me. Love Minter. I'm chomping at the bit.

I contacted Oculus support and went through a regular ticket. Was pretty painless. Depending on where you bought it there may be better choices...

thanks for answering my noob question :)

I'm excited to finally have my own headset. Playing Robo Recall at a kiosk was eye-opening.

This has probably been discussed, I apologize, feel free to point me to other posts if necessary...

So, Amazon is listing the Oculus Rift + Touch for $399 bundle as "being available for preorder, shipping August 7"
I assume this is pretty much the same bundle from when the thread started (minus the gift card that seems to have been a thing earlier), and they're still willing to offer it for that price, just they won't have the stock for a couple of weeks? But when they do, they'll still provide it to anyone who "preordered" it for the $399 price?
Am I reading/understanding that all correctly?

Yes if you order it now you'll still get the one for that price.

Awesome!

I didn't think I was going to be getting in at this price (which would have meant I wouldn't be able to get in for a while, since getting in at the regular price would have taken even longer).
Really happy to still be able to have a chance to grab this :)

Vega's not likely to be better than the 1080, but it's seeming to come out on par and will probably be cheaper. Could try keeping an eye out for it. Personally, I've been using my 970 mostly fine for awhile waiting for Volta.

If you want you can get an extra camera to do roomscale better but you don't need it.

I just realized that Best Buy still has it in-stock for the $399 price.
That bundle comes with EVE: Valkyrie, plus everything the Amazon bundle does, right?
Any reason to get the Amazon bundle over the Best Buy bundle?

Sorry for the silly questions.

Never mind on that

Also, I don't have the space to do roomscale even if I wanted to (studio apartment, 515 square feet for the whole apartment).

Not really a difference if you can get the best buy bundle go for it. Best buy has eve and amazon doesn't

Got mine from Best Buy a few days ago, I think I'm in love.
Robo Recall, SUPERHOT VR and Echo Arena are the real deal, The level of immersion each of those games offer is completely unreal.

I've been looking for something music based to enjoy in VR, unfortunately Harmonix Music VR looks like exactly what I'm looking for but is PSVR exclusive. I've been using GrooVR but it seems extremely limited in scope. I've heard good things about TIltbrush's audio brushes, can I play my own music and have it influence the game that way?

I've had Rock Band VR but can't get it to start, currently emailing back and forth with Harmonix Support to find a solution, but even without that I still have found plenty to do and play, I am kinda blown away by just how good all of this is, glad I bit the bullet.

You try audioshield yet? Glad to hear you're enjoying everything.

Bought Polybius on PS4 and will definitely be getting it on PC too. Gotta keep Minter in curry and his sheep in biscuits.

I haven't, it's definitely on my to-get list actually. I've also been on the fence about Thumper. I'm definitely gonna get the game but I can't decide if I want it on Switch or in VR.

Does anyone know if the Steam version supports VR so I can play it in and out of the headset, or will I HAVE to buy it through Oculus and only play in the headset if I want it in VR? (Sorry for so many questions, first time in VR + first time posting on GAF leaves me very curious about some stuff)

P.S. Never mind on Best Buy. When I tried checking out on desktop it would just hang at processing and not move any further. When I tried checking out on mobile, it gave a message saying "This item is out of stock and has been removed from your cart." Good thing I didn't cancel my Amazon order.

I'm pretty sure both versions can launch both ways. I know you can play in desktop mode with the oculus home version. Right click the app in home and select "launch in desktop mode"

After toying around with the Oculus for over a week now and loving it, and after starting Ready Player One thanks to that amazing trailer, I'm bummed we're not at THAT kind of immersion. But damn I'd kill to have something like the Oasis

Separately, I'm looking to get some rhythm games for Oculus. Are there any standouts besides AudioShield?

My favorite rhythm games in order:

1. Airtone
2. Soundboxing
3. Audioshield

I've heard decent thinks about Holodance as well but I haven't tried it.

If you've joined the public beta test for oculus home good news. You can now add all your steam games to oculus home :)

Third Party Apps and Rift 1.17 Update
https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/55356/third-party-apps-and-rift-1-17-update/

Full release notes:

FEATURES:
  • Oculus Library:
    • You can now see detailed release notes for recent app updates, including the Oculus system software, from the Updates screen in Library.
    • You can now quickly launch all apps that support Rift from within the Oculus software, even if you acquired those apps from outside the Oculus Store.
      • You can toggle displaying third party app titles “on” and “off” from the Filter menu of the Library in the upper right of the Oculus desktop app
      • You can remove individual apps from your Library (note that this does not uninstall the app; also, at this time, this action can’t be undone)
      • If you are using an app obtained or purchased outside the Oculus Store, your activity will simply display as "Online"
      • Library will still display the five most recently played apps. If you toggle “off” third party apps titles, they will be removed from recent activity
  • Mixed Reality Capture: Further improvements to the calibration tool.

BUG FIXES:
  • Fixed an issue where reconnecting the Rift headset wouldn't fully restore functionality after being disconnected.
  • Fixed an issue with lens slider settings not being respected in some situations.
  • Fixed an issue with the floor shifting while you're in VR.
  • Miscellaneous performance improvements, stability enhancement, and bug fixes.

Mine is getting delivered today, day needs to faster so I can get off of work. I installed a bunch of non vr games I want to try out with vorpx yesterday along with some free vr games from the steam Oculus store. I have tomorrow off to mess around all day. Can't wait.

dont forget all the games you'll get when you activate your oculus, and touch.

It kept coming back in and out all day. I just got one through but the headset is backordered to mid August while the touch is in stock now.

Not sure if I want to keep it now or not.....

Didn't get to play with this as much as I would have liked this weekend, but I was completely blown away.

Superhot VR, Robo Recall, and Echo Arena so far are just next level experiences. I'm exhausted after playing too which I think is awesome lol.

I think Batman VR is bunk for what you're paying, but I really enjoy throwing guided batarangs and looking in mirrors as Batman. A game designed around room scale with a whole first person Arkham experience would be absolutely incredible and I think ultimately achievable, but I don't know how far they want to take that since most of this pretty rudimentary. (I imagine to make it for PSVR release)

I really want to try tilt brush, but I dunno if I want to spend $20? I also really want a music visualizer similar to what Snuggle Bubbler mentioned with Harmonix Music VR, but I think I may buy SoundStage on Steam.

I also see people mentioning that they use First Contact to introduce friends to VR, but my go to has been the "Welcome Tour" on Google Earth VR, I'd highly recommend it.

Having third party apps in Oculus Home is a good addition, means not having to dick about with Steam and being able to launch most stuff from the headset.
