Trump: Trans Soldiers now barred from the military entirely

Trump supporters told people, "Don't worry, Trump wants to protect the rights of ALL Americans. Even LGBT!"

Where are you guys now? Our president is a bigoted piece of shit.

As usual, fuck this man, the GOP and anyone that supports him.

Which "antics" have you enjoyed??

Pretty much everything since he announced he was running for office.

As an Australian I should butt out, but will kindly offer a place to crash for any American should they want to get out ASAP.

Putting aside all trans issues of right to be recognized as their identity: this is about people being denied the right to military service due to their beliefs about themselves.

I think it's un-American to the core.

A distraction from what?

The healthcare stuff isn't really going to heat up until later in the week

Could we please stop this? It's not a distraction. It is a real policy with real effects on real people in our country. On top of that Trump has proven time and time again that he's not trying to distract from jack fucking shit. He's just a whiny little baby that says anddoes what he pleases. It's not part of some grand scheme and never was.

Maybe Ya'll right but this is just so surreal to see him tweet out a life changing policy like that, trying to make sense of it and then attacking someone who was the first to be loyal to him!

They want to make this an talking point for the democrats in the hopes that it will drive people to vote republican.

The awful thing is that it will probably work.

Doubt it works. People don't really care all that much about trans issues. They don't understand it and they don't want to understand it. They do, however, care about the military

So selling it as "these brave men and women want to serve and Trump said no" is likely a very good way to make this bite the GOP, badly.

The difference being here is that gender dysphoria, transexualism, transgender, gender change, etc runs the risk of being medically documented, whereas I don't ever recall there being a method or need to document homosexuality. If there was, it was phased out decades ago.

Here I'm strictly speaking about the ability to pull this info from records.

Oh, completely agree; you're right on all counts. But I don't think commanders can view raw medical records (and mental health records are even more safeguarded). They can ask medical providers to determine if someone's fit for duty though.

The fact that docs are professionals and generally off in their own little world/corps means there's some institutional protection here. At least, that's what I'd be saying a few years ago. Maybe they really will just run an AHLTA query.

"...cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail."

I'm not for war at all, but transgender are people willing to make sacrifices, to be away from there families to serve their country and now they're a burden and disruption? That's such crap, nobody should be targeted like that.

Trump shouldn't be president because hes a burden and dirsruption to the American people.

They're quietly happy that he tried to denigrate trans folks. Their approval increases and they nod knowingly. He's their man.

It's gross.

"Ugh, those assholes in Washington are stopping him from fixing this country. Drain the swamp!"

Most people who still support him just want a dictator and are disappointed that we have a system of government preventing that.
Figures.

Awful that GOP are basically using minorities as political "chips" to be abused both to appease voters bigotries and to try and hamstring other parties chances "voting democrats means trans folks getting free operations paid for by your tax dollars".

Honestly general political landscape looks horrible from the outside right now. Less time seems to be dedicated to actual major policies and governance and more invested in using basic bigotry and racism to win votes.

Horrible really.

People don't care when it's for but they do when it's against.

Reading Twitter right now, they still exist. People saying Trump is saving the lives of transgender people, saying he's not prejudice in his heart towards them, etc. A ton of mental illness comments, it's sad and hurtful.

I see. Thanks.

That really bothers me. To see people lives and livelihoods destroyed just so they can be political pawns in some sort of game makes me angry. I know it happens all the time, but to see it so blatantly is just....gross.

I hope you're right, and you're right about mental health still being protected. My expertise on this is limited to the private sector.

This is basically DADT again, so I fully expect it to be stuck down in court, and the shit stain whining like a fucking toddler again.

If this is an issue for midterms, it's kind of stupid to me. All Dems have to say is, 'We support any brave individual who wishes to join the military, blah blah blah.' Healthcare is going to be the big issue in the midterms, especially if the GOP finally get a repeal of some kind through.

So, can Federal Judges cancel that out?

This is a flat-out civil liberty violation.

I mean, he skipped right over banning medical services for Trans people and went right to banning Trans people themselves.

Will 'THE MAVERICK' stand up for his fellow soldiers in uniform?

Will he fuck.

Edit: why the fuck did I go see what Reddit was saying about this...

These people are serving RIGHT NOW, risking their life, protecting our freedoms, and the President is taking a dump on them. Gross.

I'm not a "Trumpist" but as a Republican most of us don't post much as we're likely to be shouted right out of these threads.

This.

I value my Gaf account and don't want to be banned anymore than I already have over politics. On Gaf, I know my POV isn't popular and will be called racist/homophobe etc.

I just lurk now and laugh at some of the posts some folks type up. Mostly stick to Gaming Discussion.

So don't crucify me for this, as I don't agree with the decision, but could there be an actual logistical reason for this?

If, for instance, you need insulin regularly, you most likely aren't going to be allowed into the military, because what if you are stuck in a combat zone and can't get it?

Couldn't the same line of thought apply to transgender people who need a regular supply of hormone drugs?

I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. Still think if you want to serve and you have no physical defects then you should be allowed to no matter what.

Is he "saving their lives" by not allowing them to risk their lives in the military?

If that's their logic, does that mean that everyone we allow into the military is someone we don't care about as we're letting them risk their lives? Should we consider soldiers to be suicidal?
